Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious food, different but not weird- love the beet stuffed raviolis and goat cheese -cake. You can take a friend there without fear of disappointment. Staff very attentive."

  • "We've been coming to Bellanico for special occasions for the past 5 years. First, because we live across the street, now because it's one of the best dining experiences for the price. Chris and team really make us feel at home."

  • "and the bar has already been set very high...the food is delicious using seasonal food and imaginatively prepared and beautifully presented...the prix fixe with the wine pours is a great deal...we wil go back again and again"

  • "Very intimate, neighborhood gem. Fresh ingredients with some items, (salami & cheese) made in-house. Fantastic wine list and they offer wine flights for under $15, as well. I will definitely return."

  • "We love Bellanico Restaurant, which is a go-to for special occasions and dining in our neighborhood. The food is always delicious, fresh and creative without being precious. It was full and noisy at 7 pm when the place was packed. If you go on a Friday or Saturday and want a quieter dinner hour, try early or the later seating."

  • "Bellanico is always a special treat. The interior feels like home, but in a restaurant setting. The food is really excellent and for reasonable prices. We had a small plate of Caulifower Fritters that I could have ordered 10 more plates of they were so melt-in-your-mouth-delicious! All of the food was excellent except that the edges of the filled pastas were a bit dry and undercooked. That said, the oxtail filling was fabulous. Unfortunately, there was a woman sitting next to us that was literally screaming for her companion across the table to be heard (he had a hearing aid). This was very uncomfortable, but we asked to move and were accommodated, so can't blame the owners for that. Bellanico is truly a neighborhood gem!"

  • "Love Bellanico food! Creative, refine Italian. We did the pre-fix menu and was delicious and fun! The prices are very reasonable. Wine pairing perfect. The environment was too noisy; we have been there several times and this was particularly noticeable. Still really enjoyed it, will continue to recommend and go back again!"

  • "We eat here quite often. Each time the menu is interesting and delicious; the wine choices we've made complement the dining; and the whole experience is one which is satisfying and, when we bring guests, notably impressive."

  • "The food was just decent, borderline below average. But the reason I would never return here is because of the service which was absolutely horrid."

  • "I've eaten here before but didn't recall the lengthy enticing pasta menu. We had Sunday's fixed price dinner. Exquisite melt in your mouth fish cannoli; likewise for the pork belly. Cauliflower fritters and beet pasta were quite good. Zeppolini (little doughnuts with sage custard and chocolate sauce) were good. Only disappointment was ricotta, mission figs and toast dessert, all of which were dry and uninteresting; could have been improved with drizzled honey. So we ordered cookie plate, too; the light little chocolate hazelnut ones were to die for. I'm bringing back friends so we can order all the pastas (which come in two sizes)."

  • "It is truly a neighborhood gem. Consistently wonderful food and wine, excellent service, and very nice ambiance - one of my favorites."

  • "Had dinner here once before (7-8 months ago) and thought 2 of 3 dishes were very good but this time the food was adequate but not anything I would want to have again. I felt the flavors were not very distinctive, especially sauces that were meant to enhance. I tried two different white wines (glasses--generous pours) that were suggested by the server and liked them very much, and my companion liked his dessert."

  • "We had a lovely dinner here on a week night. The staff was professional and friendly. Food was very well done. Flavors subtle, not overpowering. I had the pork chop, very good. My wife had the crusted tuna, also excellent."

  • "Excellent food, interesting menu, great to share dishes around the table, and an excellent wine list. Service can be iffy, especially on busy Saturday nights. Being given four menus creates confusion and a lot to look over. A meal at the bar is always a good option."

  • "This restaurant never disappoints. Menu includes. a fixed price menu with supplemental wine pairing that is quite the deal. Restaurant is small so make reservations although drop ins can sit at the bar. Pastas are fabulous"

  • "My husband and I went here for Friday night dinner. It was good that we'd made reservations because this place was packed. We decided on the four course tasting menu($35 what a value!) and wine pairing ($15 great value!). All the food was creative and beautifully presented. Service was top notch. We'll be back for sure!"

  • "We went out with new friends and were all very pleased with the food. My husband said his duck was the best he has had in the States. My chicken was wonderful - very flavorful and perfectly done. The squash blossom appetizer was also wonderful -very different. A real find."

  • "Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night after finding myself in the area and seeing some excellent reviews of the place. Food was very good with nearly perfect portions as opposed to many italian restaurants that over or underserve. Make sure to get the selection of cicchetti, perfect for two people to get started. Don't be too scared by the italian named dishes, the waitstaff are definitely accustomed to being asked questions about what the dishes are. Entrees were perfect and desert was very good. The pre-arranged wine flights are definitely worth it and seemed to be an excellent value. Wine list seemed a little underwhelming for a restaurant also billed as a wine bar, but I'm sure they have more if you ask."

  • "The tasting menu was a good way to go. The cauliflower fritters were good. The peppered tuna was not. Dont think the tuna was fresh and i was very dissappinted with it. But the pork shoulder made everything worth it. It was fantastic"

  • "Food is reliably tasty and imaginative. Energy (as in noise) gets ramped up as evening progresses. Service is great. We have been here more times than we can count."

  • "It felt like I was back in Italy - Great food, great wine, nice ambiance. No AC so it was pretty warm - The waiter opened the door and the place cooled off pretty quickly. We will return"

  • "Service is not great some night but the food is fabulous and interesting and always well balanced. I have a particular diet which isn't extreme - no dairy, no starches, no wheat products -and they are always more than happy to accommodate me and make a fabulously delicious meal that I can really enjoy and eat everything served. That's top notch cooking!"

  • "highly reccomened. food and service excellent. Will return often because of prompt service and food was appropriate temperature when served. Our waiter, Maurice, was exceptional."

  • "The food here is art. What a gem. We're thankful that they are in our little neighborhood. We stumbled upon this place last year, and since then we've been to Bellanico a couple of times for special occasions. I had family coming in from out of town that are well traveled and not easily impressed. At least, not easily impressed by most restaurants! Everything was delicious, and the atmosphere was very pleasant."

  • "We had an 8:15 reservation for a party of 3 to celebrate a birthday. We arrived on time and were told the party at "our" table was lingering. We were seated about 20 minutes later at a 2 top that was made into a 3 top by positioning 2 tables together (making it pretty crowded around us). The front of the house thanked us for our patience by comping us wine--and that made us feel a whole lot more positive. Dinner was delicious and so was the wine. Nice recovery!!!"

  • "Great food and service, an excellent neighborhood restaraunt"

  • "We had a lovely dinner on Father's Day at Bellanico. It's a relatively compact restaurant, so when it's full as it was that night, it can get very loud. The 4-course tasting menu was a great way to sample many of the regular menu items in somewhat smaller portions and was a real bargain. The service was well-planned and efficient, but the server was a little too detailed (for our taste) in his description of each dish and each wine selected. We will definitely be back to this very good (and good value) Glenview gem."

  • "I made a reservation for 5 for Father's Day brunch. The food, as usual, was delicious. The problem was that we were seated in the back of the restaurant and the smell from the restrooms was horrible. It smelled like backed-up sewage and chemical cleaner. So nauseating that it gave all of us a headache. I've been to Bellanico many times and have never had a problem like this. We love our neighborhood restaurant so it saddens me to leave this review. Still, the smell was absolutely unacceptable and ruined what should have been a great Father's Day brunch."

  • "ON our initial visit to Bellanico all 4 of our party were very pleased with the quality of the food, size of proportions (not too large) and the friendliness of the staff. This is a find that is unusual in the Bay area. We plan on making additional visits."

  • "We went to brunch for my husband's birthday and it was fair compared to two weeks ago when it was excellent. Fortunately my husband enjoyed his and that was the most important part. I had the baked eggs with polenta and tomato and my eggs were too runny. I asked them to please set eggs and they brought back the exact same thing. I did not have as much polenta or tomatoes as last time so it definitely was not as good. We both complained that our artichokes were too tough also which was not the case last time. And they forgot our ONE whole slice of bread which we had to ask for. Definitely not a good day for them."

  • "I had been several times before and like the lunches. but the gnocchi was so bad I almost sent it back, the sauce was bland and did nothing to enhance the gnocchi. the asparagus was unremarkable and the side of sauce was also bland and added nothing."

  • "We never would have come across this place if it weren't for OpenTable. We were at an event off of Lincoln Ave and were searching for a nice dinner spot close by. It was a warm evening, so the outside tables were full of people enjoying the great weather. The wine list and wine flights looked top notch, but we settled on a couple glasses of very nice Rose recommended by the waitress. Food, from appetizers (burrata, prosciutto with melon, squash flowers) to main courses (duck, chicken, beet ravioli) were absolutely fabulous."

  • "The food and service was great. If you like great food in an non pretentious setting you must try this place."
