  • "The food is consistently good. The wine selections are always interesting. The wait staff all speak Italian and are adorable. What's not to love?"

  • "Went with my family on a Thursday night. Wasn't overcrowded. Food was delicous, I highly recommend the meatball appetizer. My boyfriend was more adventurous than me and ordered the bone marrow appetizer which he enjoyed. I tried a bit of everyone's entree and was brought back to the food I ate when I studied abroad I'm Florence in collage. The squid ink pasta was excellent. Waiters were Italian which added to the authenticity. They were friendly and on top of taking our food and drink orders. Good For intimate group, probably wouldn't go with more than 8 people."

  • "...a small easy trattoria that transports you to Italy on Geary Boulevard:-)"

  • "Every employee their seemed to be an Italian. Quality food from quality people."

  • "Had a wonderful experience at this hidden pearl of an Italian restaurant. Everything was great, the bruschettas, the perfectly al dente pastas and the recommended white wine from the Italian waiter. Highly recommended for a date night!"

  • "Insufficient number of waiters for the number of guests."

  • "Went with my wife and 2 other couples. We ordered a number of appetizers which were delicious. Really enjoyed the anti pasta and the brussels sprouts appetizers. I had the hanger steak which was cooked just as I liked, medium rare. My wife had the trout which was de-boned and very tasty. The tiramisu dessert was very good."

  • "The food was fantastic and our bottle of Sangiovese was a gem of a find. The Bruschetta, in particular, absolutely melted in the mouth. The Eggplant Parmigiana was perfectly balanced and not too heavy on the cheese - I'd certainly recommend these dishes!"

  • "Was bit disappointed with the brusqueness (although attentive and timely) of the service. It became very crowded and the waiter/maitre d' seemed rushed. Food-wise, we had a shared "romaine" salad with Caesar dressing which was already tossed and heavy with cream and cheese. Kind of spoiled the gnocchi verde, which was very good, but also very rich. Would have appreciated some advice about having that appetizer with that dish. My husband had the chicken and sun-dried tomato rigatoni, which he loved. A good experience for our 28th anniversary but not great."

  • "My friend and I had a lovely dinner with great food and service. Our only objection was that the resaurant opens at 5:30 pm but we and 8 other people were left standing outside in the cold until 5:40 pm."

  • "I just started a ladies group and it was my turn to set up dinner. I've been to Bella several times. All of the women really like it. Thanks for the special touches."

  • "I've been coming to Bella for years. It's THE BEST pasta place in San Francisco. Hands down. Well priced, great ambiance, and the staff remembers you and takes care of you. I bring everyone to this restaurant and always recommend it. Try the carbonara -- made with only 3 ingredients. It's to die for."

  • "I bring my girlfriend here when I want to buy her a nice dinner and be cheesy and romantic. The food is always amazing, as is the staff."

  • "Made reservations for a SF reunion amongst friends based on location and rating on both open table and yelp. Unfortunately, our table wasn't ready and we sat down almost 30 minutes later since the earlier party wouldn't leave (they, too, were obviously having a good time and wanted to stay). The host was so apologetic and very humble. We weren't in a rush and able to wait at the dive bar next door. The staff was amazing and comped not only the corkage fee but a dessert and appetizer. The food was great, every dish ordered between the 6 adults was tasty. Would definitely go back and made us realize how much we miss this great city."

  • "Bella is the main reason why my wife and I haven't been to Perbacco or Delfina in almost two years. Living in the Sunset it's Greta food a mile away from home and the kids love the food, service and staff!!"

  • "Bella is more than a great neighborhood place. Its the kind of simple but yummy Italian cooking that they used to have in North Beach, cooked by Italians and served by Italians. Elegant ambiance, reasonably priced too"

  • "I found this restaurant on Yelp. The reviewers loved this restaurant. I totally agree. The food was wonderful, the service was with a smile, parking was fine on Geary, great help choosing an Italian wine."

  • "small and intimate local trattoria that serves up quality Italian food and inventive selections. Could use some help in appetizer department, especially suitable for sharing."

  • "Trout, pork, gnocchi verdi and tiramisu were excellent."

  • "Food was delicious - you don't see marrow very often, burrata was wonderful, and the pork and pasta carbonara were outstanding. Loved eating family style (we were a group of 10), the only disappointment was the dessert course - hard to share ice cream - would have paid extra so that we could each order our own dessert. David was great, we will definitely be back!!!"

  • "It exceeded my expectations. I booked a reservation about two days beforehand for the 15th, and it was such a spectacular restaurant. The ambiance was romantic with candles and lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling. I absolutely loved the handmade gnocchi and panna cotta. The polenta was also very good, but I would probably try something else next time. I would definitely get the gnocchi again because it was the best gnocchi I've ever had."

  • "This was our first time at Bella. The food was great. The people were great. Will definitely come back. Made for a great Valentine dinner."

  • "Wonderful evening as usual - great house-made pasta, delicious traditional italian cocktails and a wonderful friendly and homey staff. a total neighborhood gem - special but not stuffy. in sf, one tires of "over the top" dining after a while, and you just want to go someplace where they are focused on a specific cuisine (southern italian in this case) because that is what they love, they know exactly what they are doing, and they do it very, very well, year-in and year-out. that is david and his team at bella. quick recommends: negroni sbagliato as an aperitif, any carpaccio to start, and the squid ink pasta. any dessert. perfetto."

  • "Bella is the best Italian restaurant I've ever tried so far in Bay Area. Not an Italian food expert so I can't say much, but the food tastes great and the environment is romantic and comfy! Love it there, will revisit!"

  • "We'd been wanting to try this place for some time, and catching an episode of Check Please brought spontaneity to one of our recent evenings, and we went. We left feeling that it was just okay, the servers were great, but overall just okay, we would most likely not return. I have chosen that I would recommend this place above because someone else may have a different experience, and also because the review feature does not offer a "maybe" option, if they did, I probably would have selected it."

  • "This place was good good good. Such a cozy little joint. Barely enough to seat maybe 30 to 40 ppl. We get there but had a slight wait, but oh so worth it. Everything from the bone marrow to the pasta and steak were equally good. My mom is an extremely picky eater and she cleaned her plate, she never cleans her plate. Will def go back."

  • "I discovered this restaurant in my BF's inner Richmond hood. It is very good. The staff is friendly, I love the server Ramona. I try to practice my horrible Italian and she plats along well. The food is authentic, hearty, and just good. Great place I go in the hood. Consistently good. Perfecto, Mille grazie."

  • "Small, cozy restaurant. I had seafood stew & brussels sprouts. Each dish was excellent. My husband had the special which was a pasta dish. It was even more delicious. The other couple had salads and the pasta special and they were very please as well. For dessert, we had spumoni and ice-cream in espresso. And our waiter brought a complementary flan. We all agreed that dinner was a smashing success and we will all return for future dinners. Thanks Bella Trattoria!"

  • "After watching Check, Please I was looking forward to a good Italian meal but instead I got a pasta dish with burnt garlic. My husband liked his meal but I would not go back."

  • "I have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. The gnocci verdi is a signature dish. But all the dishes I have tried have been excellently prepared and very nicely presented. The waitstaff were extremely busy on this visit so we had a bit longer than normal delay between courses but the spaghetti, linguine, and gnocci were all perfectly cooked (al dente) and delicious. We even pushed ourselves through the dessert course and were very pleased with the gelato, affogato, and zabaglione."

  • "Bella Trattoria's menu is great and even on this "special occasion" day, New Years Eve, the limited menu was great. Our party of 4 ordered 4 different dishes all were excellent. I recommend this little place to anyone who likes dining out."

  • "With its warm and cozy ambiance and delicious comfort food this was the perfect place to spend Christmas eve with my friends and family."

  • "Food was delish, noise level made a otherwise romantic evening hard to talk. Think problem could be remedied by removing a table and no squishing people up against one another. I always forget-that's part of the San Francisco experience."

  • "I took my family to Bella Trattoria Italiana to celebrate my graduation. I chose the restaurant for it's italian menu and proximity to USF. Once inside the restaurant you were transported from busy Geary Street to the relaxed ambiance of a friendly neighborhood trattoria. Our party of seven enjoyed the wonderful antipasto and meatball appetizers. The chef sent out complementary bruschetta which were some of the best we'd ever tried. The house made lasagne, gnocchi and seafood pasta were amazing. The service was impeccable. Thank you Bella Trattoria for a memorable celebratory dinner!!"

  • "We were going to a concert at St Ignatius so chose this restaurant for an early dinner. The bread and olive oil they brought out before the meal were tasteless - the only redeeming feature were the sun-dried tomato bits in the oil. Honestly it did NOT taste like olive oil. I ordered the butternut squash tortellini, which was swimming in a bit too much butter. The trout was fine but the sides were unappetizing. The other two in our party ordered carbonara - one regular and one with the corn-based gluten-free spaghetti. They were happy with their plates. Overall it was fine, but I would look around for something more interesting next time I'm in the area."
