Diner Reviews
  • "I'm shocked that this "restaurant" is on open table. We made reservations that weren't honored (they gave our booth requested to some other party that just walked in). We had to ask for water, salt, pepper, and did not have bread or olive oil/balsamic vinegar at our table (other tables had them!) and we finally received basic condiments near the end of our meal. It was the worst dining experience I've had in my adult life! The service was awful. The waitress failed to tell the chef I was a vegetarian and was served the wrong dish. She refused to allow us to take dessert to go and She insisted that my fiancé try his dish with a "poached egg" which was served sunny side up that ruined his bland dish. It was so LOUD I couldn't hear my fiancé!"

  • "Solid Italian food at a good price. Portion size was good for most of the dishes. Pasta is made in store. Should try if you are in the area."

  • "Bella Serra is a wonderful new addition to the Monrovia restaurant scene. The food selection is great and the preparation is delicious. I love the bacon wrapped figs and the meatballs as an appetizer. There pizza is great with a delicious crust. The chicken marsala and the lasagna are winners, too! All very soulful. The waitstaff is very well trained and make you feel very well taken care of."

  • "The newly renovated Bella Sera has some great new perks. A facelift, happy hour, and a fresh menu. The happy hour has $5 drinks and appetizers in the cute new bar area. It ends kinda early at 6pm, but if I can get out of work on time and rush over, I can make it. Food items are hit and miss for me so far, but what is good will bring me back for more. Grilled asparagus and prosciutto was perfectly grilled and so flavorful. Calamari includes the legs. I hate when the legs are missing! Short Rib Pasta was fresh made and cooked al dente. Just right. Very good. Good sized portions. The service both times I have visited has been more than great. I am looking forward to the next happy hour and to try more things on the menu."

  • "I was looking for a nice place to meet someone for a first date. This was a great choice. The service was very good, the food was good and there was no hurry for us to be rushed off. Mind you it was a Monday night but they had a good turn out which shows the locals like it too. The meat ball appetizer was very tender and nicely spiced. I had pasta and my date had chicken, both were very good. I took a quick look on their back patio, it's a great place on summer nights. I think I will get a table back there next."

  • "It was our first time there. Not bad, not great, but a good place to go dine when not in the mood to be at home. It does however have an Italian feel"

  • "This neighborhood gem is struggling with service and quality. Bottom line - no refills on drinks, long wait between courses, cold food that sits to be delivered, forgotten items and having to ask for every little thing makes for a bad dinning experience. I hope it was just a bad night. This restaurant used to be a town favorite with authentic Italian food."

  • "First time here and boy did we love it.....great food, but the best part was the people who own and work there. Best Eggplant parmigiana ever. We will be back again soon!"

  • "My wife and I both had a veal dish, and both were tough. Also, we waited too long for service from both the waitress and the busboy. I believe they were short staffed."

  • "I'm from out of town and found this restaurant based on open table reviews. This is a place for a pizza and average Italian food. I was expecting something more"

  • "Ambiance and food make you feel like you are in Italy. Food is delicious. Owner/chef is very concerned that you like your food and enjoy your experience."

  • "I recently visited my son in Monrovia CA and we wanted a local place to have dinner. Downtown Monrovia and Bella Sera was within walking distance and the perfect spot. The outside eating area is limited, but it had been 90-100 degrees outside, so we planned to eat inside. The temperature of the restuarant could have been cooler for this Northeast visitor. The service and food were delicious and the price was very reasonable. The atmosphere was quiet and simple. If you enjoy real Italien food, and want to visit a quaint town in CA, Bella Sera is where you should go."

  • "traditionsl food...basic tomoto sauces. Three of us had the specials of the evening. Mine was good-eggplant lasagna-would have been better if the sauce wasn't so plain. My husband had the seafood canneloni-too fish. Our friend had the special ravioli with proscuitto= he was very happy. Good service and nice wine list."

  • "Everything I had, including wine, appetizer and entree, was mediocre at best. Not bad, but certainly not memorable. Service was very good, but the overall experience was disappointing."

  • "When we arrived there was a long line of people waiting to be seated. Like us, everyone had a reservation. A half hour after the time of our reservation we were still standing in line with just as many people still ahead of us. So we left. Was a disaster of a Valentines day."

  • "We went on Valentine's Day and they did not have enough tables to accommodate all the reservations. The line to get in kept the door open and made the restaurant very cold."
