Everything was just "OK" including the bread/olive, wines by the glass, cioppino, short ribs. Nothing bad about it, but nothing very good either.

Back for dinner this time and another round of Charcuterie! Seemed like it was a little better when I was here before for lunch but otherwise it was a great meal. Brought an out of town guest who really enjoyed the gnosh. Also had the short ripb pasta again - YUMO.

I heard that this restaurant is farily new and just open a full bar. The drinks were very very very slow to be served, some 25+ mins. Our waitress was always having to apologize. I will give them another go after some time to see if they have everything under control.

  • Fun after the races at Santa Anita

    Dined on 11/1/2014
Was visiting with friends from Kentucky and New Jersey based upon reading reviews... After a joyful day at Santa Anita (highly recommended), we were welcomed cordially and had a terrific experience from start to end. Appetizers were great, especially Portobello fries, dinners were all good and folks enjoyed their dessert as well. It is a bit noisy, but that just made it easier for us to talk, laugh and have fun without feeling like we were disturbing others. We will revisit if we make it back to Monrovia in the future.

Found this on Open Table and dropped in - love the Charcuterie and the short rib pasta. Also had the pizza with Alfredo and Carmelized onions - probably would ask them to leave off the balsamic vinegar next time ... and yes, there will be a next time!

The food was wonderful, and the service was very special. It is the service that was so much better than our initial experience long past under different management. This time our server and other staff all worked smoothly together and anticipated our needs to a remarkable degree. This was in sharp contrast to years ago when the animosity for that management, held by the only server who actually showed up for work that night, was palpable and disturbing. If you ever had this similar experience, forget the old unpleasant memory and embrace a new and enjoyable experience.

I had been at the restaurant for lunch and liked it. Kale Salad and a pasta primavera. Took my wife back there for dinner because they offer gluten-free options for pizza and pasta. The first problem was that our server didn't seem to know much - I guess she was new. She was friendly but not very helpful on the questions we had about the drinks and the menu options. I ordered the Kale salad again and it was great again. My wife ordered the mushroom ragu and explained that she didn't want any cheese added because she is vegan. When the dish came it was topped with a poached egg!! Nowhere on the menu does it say that dish comes with an egg. My wife had to scrape it off to the side. Despite that the dish itself was very tasty. Might go back.

Everything about our evening was wonderful, especially the food! We were seated promptly outside on their back patio -- a lovely spot; plenty of room between tables, attractively furnished. Our waiter was superb -- knowledgeable and friendly, but he allowed us plenty of time to chat before placing our orders. All four of us literally cleaned our plates. My vegetarian lasagna, made with mushrooms, zucchini and butternut squash was superb, and I definitely look forward to having it again! Their bomba dessert was also great. I look forward to a return visit to Bella Sera Trattoria!

Wonderful find of quality food preparation of a limited menu. My wife and I shared a medium pizza and pasta. Both excellent . The carbonara was bold and hearty. It had a home cooked quality prepared with great noodles. The pizza was bountiful with fresh vegetables with fresh goat cheese. We enjoyed our lunch watching strolling couples and families in old town . We had plenty of leftovers to enjoy later in the day.

Bella Sera was recently acquired by new owners and remodeled. This was our first visit to the new restaurant. We loved it! They make most of their own pasta, and the menu is interesting and eclectic. There were four of us. I had the shrimp and fettucini special. The pasta was handmade, the shrimp was succulent, and the broccolini cooked perfectly. It was in a tomato sauce with a touch of cream and was heavenly. One friend had the lasagna, which was fabulous, also with handmade pasta. One friend is a picky eater, and the waiter graciously accommodated him--pasta instead of risotto, etc. He loved his dinner too. We'll definitely go back--often! The only problem was the noise level. Occasionally it was too loud to talk.

Bella Sera Trattoria has become our go-to restaurant in Monrovia. As long time residents of Monrovia, we are delighted to finally have a high-end Italian restaurant that really wants to do right by its patrons. The wait staff is professional and well trained; the live music on the weekend nights is awesome and the food choices continue to please and pleasantly surprise. Great food, wine, and ambiance. It was our first time dining there and it's easily the nicest place on Myrtle Ave in old town Monrovia. I was not disappointed. Service was very good. Food delicious and very generous portions. I wasn't a fan of the asparagus starter. Very bland. Otherwise great.

Sat outside on the back patio and was treated to live folk music. It wasn't overbearing at all, and added to the festive mood. Don't skip the pizza. They have a sourdough crust that's started from 20 year old dough....fantastic. Everything we ordered was delicious, sand the service excellent. Will definitely return.

We booked a dinner reservation and arrived early. We were immediately seated near the bar, we had a great view of the entire restaurant. Service was excellent, our waiter was friendly and very helpful, he explained the specials and recommended several dishes. The Kale salad was excellent, I had a peach and mozzarella appetizer which was fantastic, the peaches were perfectly ripe. My strip steak was cooked to perfection. Dessert was divine . I'd go back and highly recommend Bella Sera to all my friends, my husband has already told all of his coworkers about our new find. We will be back to try more of the menu.

Under new management apparently. We went for DineLA, first time ever. Salad - good portion, tossed and then plated so some of the berries/nuts got lost under the leaves, would've been better presentation if berries/nuts were placed after tossing the greens. Pasta - huge portion! Good taste. Dessert - yummy, tiramisu and canoli both good. We were treated well despite the DineLA. Definitely coming back!

We were generally pleased but my wife's beef dish included gristle and fat pieces which diminished her enjoyment. My serving of spaghetti and meatballs was quite good with a generous serving of four meatballs. The Service was excellent. We probably would have rated it higher if not for the beef dish. We will probably try it again.

I'm shocked that this "restaurant" is on open table. We made reservations that weren't honored (they gave our booth requested to some other party that just walked in). We had to ask for water, salt, pepper, and did not have bread or olive oil/balsamic vinegar at our table (other tables had them!) and we finally received basic condiments near the end of our meal. It was the worst dining experience I've had in my adult life! The service was awful. The waitress failed to tell the chef I was a vegetarian and was served the wrong dish. She refused to allow us to take dessert to go and She insisted that my fiancé try his dish with a "poached egg" which was served sunny side up that ruined his bland dish. It was so LOUD I couldn't hear my fiancé!

The newly renovated Bella Sera has some great new perks. A facelift, happy hour, and a fresh menu. The happy hour has $5 drinks and appetizers in the cute new bar area. It ends kinda early at 6pm, but if I can get out of work on time and rush over, I can make it. Food items are hit and miss for me so far, but what is good will bring me back for more. Grilled asparagus and prosciutto was perfectly grilled and so flavorful. Calamari includes the legs. I hate when the legs are missing! Short Rib Pasta was fresh made and cooked al dente. Just right. Very good. Good sized portions. The service both times I have visited has been more than great. I am looking forward to the next happy hour and to try more things on the menu.

I was looking for a nice place to meet someone for a first date. This was a great choice. The service was very good, the food was good and there was no hurry for us to be rushed off. Mind you it was a Monday night but they had a good turn out which shows the locals like it too. The meat ball appetizer was very tender and nicely spiced. I had pasta and my date had chicken, both were very good. I took a quick look on their back patio, it's a great place on summer nights. I think I will get a table back there next.
