Due to a recent transfer to SA we are exploring many of the notable and of course yet to be notable restaurants. My wife and I selected Bella's for an anniversary dinner and could not be more pleased. Cozy but comfortable with a terrific ambience. Paella and lobster main courses was top notch. Excellent wine menu at reasonable pricing. Service was as expected and not disappointing. Certainly worth a visit!

I enjoy bringing out of town visitors to Bella. Service is always thoughtful and everything I've tried has been delightful. I tried PEI mussels and sea diver scallops. My friend had tournedos. As always I left happy.

In a cellar below an historic building, so a difficult room for a restauranteur. On the Riverwalk, so the location can attract traffic. We liked the vibe, even though tables are crammed in there so close together to give the place enough covers to survive. This was the case with the previous occupant. The food and service were excellent, and they have a good wine list. But I could make most of this food at home, so why pay the prices they charge when there are so many places here now that are way above that level and charge less? Too crowded to be "romantic" and justify the prices with the ambiance.

From the time we walked into the restaurant, we felt so welcome! The food was delicious! We were told they did not have a children's menu but that the chef could make pasta or chicken for the kids. Both items were excellent! The corn soup was tasty! Scallops perfect. Mussels were some of the best we have had. Amanda was our server. She made sure everything was just right even though the place was packed. She was amazing and definitely made our eating experience a positive one at Bella!

My husband and I went to this restaurant to have a quiet evening because we had heard it was a nice romantic restaurant. It was one of the noisiest, jam-packed (too many tables in a small space) restaurants that I have ever been to. I had to scream to to talk my husband and that really ruined the dining experience. The food was very good but it took almost 45 minutes to receive our entrees after the salads. I'm not sure that I would go back.

The wife and I really enjoyed our dinner at Bella On The River. Food was great and so was the ambience. The only disappointment was that we made it clear that the occasion was our wedding anniversary and there was absolutely no recognition of this. What happened? Art & Doris San Antonio, TX

My morning starts with a text that reads "Look forward to seeing you tonight" complete with a map of where the restaurant is located. I'm entertaining business clients so during the day my flt is cancelled, twice as many people confirm, etc. When I call David, he starts with "the most important things is you are still coming!" Amazing service, amazing food, all my clients were so impressed. I am often asked how I find these great locations. Open table is paramount to what I do. And this restaurant was above and beyond on ALL fronts! Every dish was top notch from the eggplant to the the steak alfurbero to the war, Italian donuts. YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE. Thank you to David and his crew for making this a night to remember :)

Bella on the River was outstanding! I consider myself a foodie, and my family and I regularly enjoy high-end European and American cuisine. We were all delighted by the quality of food and the warm service we received. The special was fantastic as were my steak and vegetables. We also loved the beef carpaccio and the garlic-olive oil. Due to its lack of acoustic treatments, the dining room is rather loud, but as a whole, we had a wonderful time and cannot wait to go back!

In SA for 3 nights, and ate here twice, if that tells you how I feel about this place! David, Patrick and Steven, added to the wonderful food, made this the near-perfect dining experience for us. The outdoor tables are perfect for RiverWalk watching, but choose the intimate, stone walled restaurant for dinner. Can highly recommend the Eggplant Josephine (save your daily calories), Wolf fish, Paella, Filet, Mussels...and, the fresh, warm bread with roasted garlic. Very busy place, so reserve ahead. A bit noisy, but the atmosphere makes up for it. Altogether.....YUM!

For starters, walking up to the restaurant was a bit awkward as there was no host available. We stood there looking around for somebody to attend us for about 3 minutes, until finally someone walked up. The place is pretty small but it had a nice romantic vibe to it. The food was not what I was hoping for. We had the three course meal, and the appetizer was joined by a bisque which was pretty hard. My main course was good but not great. Dessert was delicious I will say, overall good for dinner but not if you are really trying to impress your date.

This is a fantastic location to have a great meal with your spouse or another couple. The food was absolutely outstanding and the menu selection is quite broad and diverse specializing on food from the Mediterranean. The waiter was fantastic at describing the menu items in mouth watering terms. We will eat here everytime we return to San Antonio now that we've found it. Highly recommend making a reservations because the seating is limited to probably 55 people and most of the table are for 2. They did have a group of 8 set up so they can o larger groups.

We discovered Bella on the River during Restaurant Week in San Antonio. Living here, we tend to avoid the River Walk, too crowded, too touristy. But, for Restaurant Week we decided to only go to places we'd never been before. Out of the five places we went, Bella is the one we've returned to. The Restaurant Week menu was a bargain fixed priced three course with only two selections for each course - we had one of each. All were good. The real surprise was having Okra, and loving it - not something this northerner is used to. We've since been back, and had another wonderful experience. We will be back again. It's up a few stairs, it's small, feels like a cellar, but because of its small size, it's not going to have a large group. Enjoy!

If you're looking for a true culinary experience, and want to avoid the chain restaurants and watery Mexican food that seems to be the staple on Riverwalk, this is the place you have been looking for. Food done with a passion, served in an intimate setting, where you are treated a guest, not just a customer. Bella is rather small so reservations are a very good idea.

I would definitely recommend Bella on the River for anyone looking for a great spot to slow down and enjoy some tasty food. The menu was quite varied and the wait staff was happy to recommend food and wine that fit our tastes. Even letting us have samples of dinner and dessert wines to help us make our decision. The food itself was fantastic and the atmosphere of the place was great, it's quite small so I would suggest getting a reservation. There were varied table sizes so you could go as a couple or in a larger group. The bread, olive oil and garlic was fantastic!

Bella is a favorite of my wife and I. Small, intimate, great food and friendly competent service. Set on the Riverwalk, inside it's cozy interior and intimate bar are a great place to stop for anything from a glass of wine to a full meal. Whenever we're in San Antonio, we try to find time to stop in for dinner. My filet mignon was tender and perfectly cooked and my wife's dish was also delicious. We enjoyed the bibb lettuce salads, but decided to pass on desserts, even though they sounded great. Given its small size, reservations are strongly recommended, but they do try to accommodate walk-ins. My only regret is that its not located in Austin where we live!

We were lucky enough to hit Bella's while it was restaurant week and the options were amazing! The waiter was knowledgeable about the wine selection and recommended the perfect wine to go with both red fish and duck! Foods were perfectly cooked with wonderful and unique combinations of taste! The only draw back was that there wasn't a better view of the Riverwalk if you opt to eat inside with A/C. Overall, an exquisite dining experience and we will most definitely return when we visit San Antonio again!

We had a little trouble finding the place, but are so glad we did. Showed up 15 minutes late for our reservation, no problem.(and it was very busy, restaurant week) We were seated and greeted by our server and got our drinks pretty quickly. Be aware its beer and wine only. We started with the anti-pasta which was great! The cheeses and olives were superb. My wife loved her salad. My wife had the Halibut and I had the Diver Scallops. Both were very well presented. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the fish and scallops were cooked perfectly. We ordered a Cotes Du Rhone that complemented our meal perfectly. The server was very busy, but never let us wait for anything. All in all we highly recommend Bella on the River.

Away from the crowded, touristy parts of the Riverwalk, Bella on the river is a quiet, intimate gem of a restaurant. Seating maybe 50 people max, it offers superb food at reasonable prices. Bella is officially on my top 10 list of U.S. restaurants. Went to Bellla about two years ago and enjoyed an intimate atmosphere, exceptional service - from a waiter who actually enjoyed his job and was excited to talk about the menu and wine list. Returned to Bella on Friday night, and I was not disappointed. My friend and I received the same exceptional service (from the same waiter) and the quality has not wavered one bit. If you're looking for a special dinner, with outstanding service, atmosphere, and food, look no further. Some past menu favorites: scallops with watermelon salsa, and salmon with grape puree. Current menu favs: paella and pistachio cake. Highly recommend making a reservation.
