Belga CafeCapitol Hill GemBelga Cafe is one of the best restaurants in the city! The food and service are wonderful. It is a wonderful neighborhood spot as well as a destination restaurant. The street scene outside is vibrant and fun for people watching. Five stars all around!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBelgian reviewExcellent menu card. Very good food and wel prepared! It felt like dining at home. Great choice off Belgiums finest Beers.
We didn't have to wait long to get our food. Specials thanks to our Waiter DUC. He was very friendly and attentive!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat as alwaysexcellent food and drinks, perfect for special occasions5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBelga a surprising taste of BelgiumI was surprised at the range of foods, tastes and textures. We went for Mother's Day Brunch--had to wait longer than I'd like for a table for three but it was incredibly crowded so it was understandable. We had regular waffles, the crab stuffed waffles and a cheese omelette with Belgian fries (tiny and crispy) for the three of us. Tcrab stuffed waffle was the more unique offering, warm, savory, crunchy, a bunch of great textures. The regular waffle was of course Belgian, with whipped cream and fruit--just fine.
I was the only one to order dessert, a rarity for me. I ordered the Lovely Trio which was like three tiny desserts. I wish I could have taken one home but alas had to eat them all!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMust try Quiche! We went there for Mother's Day. I ordered the Quiche and it was delicious. It was much more creamier than the traditional quiche, but it was cheesey and had good flavor. The crispy cheese on top really added to the taste as well. My brother and mom ordered the waffle stuffed with crab- it tasted similar to a crab cake. Despite the less than to be desired King crab legs, it was quite good; I think it would have been even better accompanied with an egg. My aunt ordered the ham and cheese omelet, it seemed that the cheese on the inside was not melted which makes for egg-ham-cheese breakfast, not an omelet. Overall it was a nice experience and something different than the traditional mother's day brunch.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBelga BrunchI had brunch at Belga Cafe with my friends on Mother's Day. I was able to make a reservation the preceding Friday and Belga Cafe was very understanding in adjusting my reservation to include more diners. My brunch was delicious! I made some changes to the original order (switched one item for another) and our server was very accommodating about it and did not charge me extra for it. I will definitely go again if I am ever in town.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food- High Energy spotReservations are a must on the weekend. Great Belgian beer list. Limited wine selection though. Vegetable stew & beef stew were both excellent. Menu had so many great-sounding choices it was hard to decide. I would go back in a heartbeat.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch HotspotGreat place to take guests, parents, in-laws for brunch on the weekend. The unique and tasty waffle selections make this unlike anyplace they've been.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood delish but service lackingThis is one of my favorite restaurants on the Hill. Great curry mussels, best beet salad I've had and really extensive selection of beers. The only downside was the service. We went here on a busy Friday so I will admit that it was a little noisier than usual. But the server made us repeatedly yell our orders and was very curt.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent Belgian cuisine;excellent Belgian cuisine; notable beer list!!
great for lunch and for dinner5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant!I went here with a group of coworkers (we were in town from Kansas City). LOVED this restaurant! Fabulous!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, Belga's brunchAs always, Belga's brunch completely satisfies. They have such deliciously savory waffles and eggs - Belga is in the top 3 for brunch in DC in my opinion. Be smart and make a reservation, lines get long for their brunches!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for dinner/brunch, huge menuWas steered toward Belga by a friend of a friend who lives on Capitol Hill and she was not wrong: fantastic food, fast service, nice atmosphere, very extensive menu and MASSIVE beer list. Despite being fairly full when we arrived early for a 7:15 reservation (we were sightseeing and my wife got cold) the host accommodated with a nice window table. On a Saturday. With an 80% full house. While our particular waiter was a little spacey on drink service, he seemed fairly new and was being lightly supervised by the attentive host. So I'll give the benefit of the doubt and leave it at "very good." We're coming again, we're bringing friends, and we're warning them to read the menu online so we don't have to wait all night for them to decide.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply outstanding in everySimply outstanding in every catagory. I will be headed back.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMussels and BeerMy "go-to" stop in DC whenever I can arrange it! Love bringing friends here because they love it too. Food is excellent and true to the Belgium cuisine. The beer list is amazing and filled with spectacular beers you don't often find other places. Service is excellent too. Very attentive and the right level of friendly. LOVE everything about this place - except I wish I lived closer and come here more often.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food and excellentDelicious food and excellent service. My only qualm about the whole meal was the decision to open the shades halfway through our meal.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurantThe service was excellent and the food quality very good at Belga. The beer list is magnificent but pricey.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love Belga! It is especiallyWe love Belga! It is especially fun when the weather is balmy and the windows and open, and/or you can sit outside. The one "destination" restaurant on Barracks Row features authentic Belgian cuisine, outstanding service, and an amazing bar including featured beers and an amazing wine list.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe just had brunch at BelgaWe just had brunch at Belga Cafe and it was great! This was my second time there. Both times I got the chocolate milk (hot Belgian chocolate) and the waffles with the red berries. The presentation is great, the food comes out quickly and the food is delicious. Now I need to go back and try their dinner...4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMmoules-frites et bièreThis is our go-to place for mussels and fries complemented by a wide selection of quality Belgian brews.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways an amazing time. FoodAlways an amazing time. Food was awesome as always. My only issue this time was that my started showed up after all my other orders and my desert showed up with my entree. While the waitress apologized, I would have expected them to take at least the starter off the bill.Aside from that, no complaints whatsoever4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat every time! All the classics are terrific - especially the waffles and muscles. The cocktails are good too, and of course there is a wide beer selection.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is one of my favoriteThis is one of my favorite brunch spots. The wait can be pretty long as it is a small restaurant so I recommend a reservation. The food is amazing.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost Belga-PerfectBelga has a new policy of not seating anyone unless the entire party has arrived. Most of our party arrived early to ensure our out-of-town guests were not alone when they arrived. They arrived on time for our reservation. Would have enjoyed a glass of champagne during our 10-minute wait. Our table was ready, the bar was swamped, but they felt it more important to hold to their new policy. Prepare to wait out front on the sidewalk, even if you have a reservation. Food was great, as always, and our server was quick, proactive, helpful, friendly, and professional.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place to goIt was my friend's birthday. As usual, the experience was wonderful. Old favorites, and a new dish succeeded with elegance and pizzazz.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFoodies rave on service and mealBelga rules! It is open on Monday! Something our other favs forget. We are foodies that LOVE anything great and we are very picky. IT was INCREDIBLE! Entrée of venison and foie gras, app's of escargot hushpuppies, "cigars" of chicken and crab, and another of a yummy pate. Why do we only go here for lunch or brunch? The meal in addition to a wonderful beer of bubbles on tap was delightful. I had a red wine with the meal recommended by our waitress. She was no waitress, she was knowledgeable, informative, and fun! A true EXPERT! What a nice experience for a change!!! She made recommendations that were accurate and on spot! We had been there for mussels before but huurumph go for the venison or anything else.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is by far my favoriteThis is by far my favorite restaurant in Washington DC. The staff is great and food is exceptional. The beer and wine list is superb. It's impossible to have a bad time here.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed a great brunch onEnjoyed a great brunch on 7 April. Too many delicious options! We were very happy with our meal, and although it's noisy, we got a table by the wall so had the ability to hold a conversation without raising our voices. Would definitely return.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMore than "just" a "Cafe" !For all Belgians this is a must-visit address in Washington.
Excellent Crab cakes with Belgian Waffles. Tartare of Lobster was also exquisite.
The choice of creme-brule with 3 different flavours was maybe just a bit too "sophisticated" so to be recommended for those very adventurous typess, ... I'm sure it could become excellent but surely in the "acquired taste" only.
Privileged by a brief visit at our table by Chef/Owner Bart's partner Greet De Keyser, whom is a celebrity on her own by being a very well respected former Belgian TV US Correspondent. Friendly, genuine and accessible.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed our dinnerWe really enjoyed our dinner at Belga Cafe. My mussels with lobster tail arrived boiling hot, and stayed warm for quite a while. The restaurant is very convenient to the Metro also. We'll be going again when we're in DC.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVery tasty menu, often theVery tasty menu, often the wait is long, even with reservations, so just go with that in mind. I love the vibe there, and everyone is super nice.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, but ratherExcellent food, but rather pricey. Expansive staff, but our waiter had more eye for the lady who was sitting at the bar. Setting was nice. Great choice of beers.
ps: Do get a beer with your meal (especially when eating meat).4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBelgen op bezoekSince we arrived in Virginia in January 2013, this was our first visit to Belga Cafe. As a Belgian family we were curious to see how Belgian food would be promoted here, and we really enjoyed it.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen I am in DC I like toWhen I am in DC I like to take some local friends to different places. When doing some research, I found Belga Cafe. We really enjoyed it. Both the food and service were excellent. I hope to go back again when in DC.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTypical Belgian cuisineTypical Belgian cuisine, very noisy restaurant. Service was good but way too fast. We got our apetizers dishes switched by entrees within seconds. Couldn't even take a breath between the two. French fries were overcooked. Being Belgian ourselves we well know how they should be.
Overall a good restaurent to taste Belgian cuisine.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent andThe food was excellent and desserts were delicious. They feature mussells on the menu that are prepared with different flavones and are the best I've ever had! Just out of curiosity, is the answer. Blown away by the quality of the food, our next visit to WDC we'll stop by again. Dishes are nicely inspired on what Belgians should be proud of. My waffle literally melted in my mouth, I can't wait for the next time I'm in the city to go back! Worth it to make a reservation, this is one of the few places that HONORS a reservation as soon as you walk in the door; no waiting while the next table clears up!
THANK YOU for honoring those who take a moment to prepare in advance!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOur second time at Belga CafeOur second time at Belga Cafe and, again a great experience. Outstanding, helpful service. Creative menu, with interesting appetizers and salads as well as a great mix of entree choices. Excellent endive salad to start. Mussels were delicious and the serving size was huge. Ended with the Belgian waffle with ice cream and the Trio of mouses. Filled waffles and green eggs are among the brunch items that make me come back again and again. Lunch and dinner are also excellent - their fries are amazing, and I don't even enjoy fries that much. It is a crowded place, so make a reservation.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fantastic dinnerWe had a fantastic dinner at Belga! The service was wonderful and our food was delicious! I highly recommend the rabbit and of course any of the mussel pots! Definitely look forward to eating there again!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Belgian FareMussels were, as always, fresh and correctly cooked. Flemish beef stew was tasty but had cooled below optimal serving temp. Bread seemed left over and the pommes frites were a but greasy and also not hot. Beer selection is large but really pricey. Our server was very attentive and congenial. Despite the few shortcomings we'll definitely return3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful SundayWe had a wonderful Sunday brunch at Belga. I'll definitely be back!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHaving heard people rave aboutHaving heard people rave about Belga for years, I finally tried it for brunch on a Saturday and was not disappointed.
