Diner Reviews
  • "Wife's steak was well overdone. It was replaced. It took some time to cook another. Put a damper on the experience."

  • "The Belfry Inn has been a favorite romantic spot for celebrating our anniversary and New Year's Eve for many years! And this visit did not disappoint! We had an excellent, experienced waitress who recognized our desire to spend some quiet time talking and sipping wine before we ate. She gave us attention and space without interfering with our anniversary celebration. The wine list affords plenty of choices and our chardonnay was superb. The food is always exceptional here and the tenderloin steaks continued to uphold that reputation. The dining room was full and, yet, we were able to chat quietly and enjoy our time together. A wonderful place - be sure to try it!"

  • "In a church converted to a restaurant, this space is beautiful: stained glass, warm wood, beautiful fireplace. The inside is a large open space, and the outside is a deck and lovely courtyard. I give the ambiance top grades. I wish the food were as good, but it's not. The menu is limited, with very few salads. The selections sound wonderful, but the actual taste and prep is not. The food is mediocre at best, in addition to which it is very expensive. All four of us at the table agree on this, as do other friends who've dined with me there. I wish I could continue to go there because it's so beautiful. But it's just not worth the money."

  • "The service was very nice. But the food was sub par. My mushroom risotto was lukewarm, bland and only had six little mushroom pieces. My husband's lamb chop was rare in places. He ordered medium. The meal was so disappointing that we didn't even consider dessert."

  • "Really delicious. Unusual to find such good food these days."

  • "We have dined at this restaurant for years and expect excellence. However, on a very quiet weekday summer evening our expectations were not met. We were pestered by dozens of fruit flies. We let the waitress know and at our request she removed the lemons from the table. We killed more with our hands, napkins, etc. One was in my daughter's water, which the waitress replaced. We asked about a large flower arrangement near our table. Our waitress did not attempt to move the flowers. We asked for our table to be moved. However, we were harassed again. One flew in my daughter's wine, which the waitress also replaced. The pacing of our dinner was also rushed and one entree was lukewarm with mushy salsa. No manager apology offered."

  • "We took a business associate to dinner here. The setting was stunning on a beautiful summer evening, the food excellent. The service was a bit slow but still attentive. We will be back to this special place."

  • "We were seated in a corner where we could not see anyone and therefore I think got a bit missed by the server. the food was Ok but overpriced and the setting was a bit too old fashioned for our liking."

  • "We met friends for dinner at the Belfry on Wednesday. The weather was rainy so the Wednesday night wine tasting was in the dining room. It was fun to hear about the wines being offered while we sipped on our own cocktails. Once again, the offerings were very interesting and everyone was very happy with their choices. We had a lovely evening, and can't wait for our next visit."

  • "Looking for a special night w two close friends we were instead treated to a disaster. The appetizers were ordinary by most standards. One meal was thoroughly undercooked which was sent back. Second time arrived in same condition. So one member of our party sat there and watched the rest eat. Third time was the charm, but the rest of us were ready for dessert. They tried to make it up w free dessert, but way too late. Special din re was ruined. You can't charge these prices and be incompetent. There are other choices on the cape"

  • "This trip to the Cape was my wife and I third time. All three visits to Sandwich, MA were very calm and truly relaxing. The Belfry is one beautiful place to take the one love you have for an romantic dining experience. Chris, the owner, was very friendly. He cared how our experience was each time we went. Our waitress was very knowledgable with the different wines and spirits. She knew what paired with what for the meal. Each time we went to the Belfry my wife and I celebrated our anniversary. Last night's dinner was our 18th and still going strong. The food was very delicious. Presentation was phenomenal, and the service was extremely friendly. Chris has done some very wonderful things in the Sandwich community. We will return!"

  • "We love this restaurant. The food and wine are wonderful. Lovely wait and host staff. We have been a number of times this summer and we feel like they know is. This is a lovely way to spend a Saturday evening and there is live piano playing!"

  • "Having visited the Cape for over 50 years, one perpetually disappointing fact is the absence of quality eateries with nice atmosphere, good food, and acceptable prices. The Belfry Bistro never disappoints. Also the tables are far enough apart that you can actually carry on a conversation. Bravo!"

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful dinner here recently, with attentive service and fabulous food! My mother and I both got the cold cucumber soup, which was similar to gazpacho. It had yellow tomato in it, which gave it a beautiful yellow-gold color, and it was chunky and refreshing. We both had the lobster roll, which was also quite good. The only reason I didn't give this restaurant 5 stars was because the lobster mixture on the brioche roll had celery in it, which I detest. Just my opinion, but I like lobster to stand on its own merits, without lots of fillers like mayonnaise, celery, etc. Each of us had a dessert--me, the Belfry pillow and Mom had the cheesecake. Both quite good, although not outstanding. Overall, an excellent dinner!"

  • "Almost everything was perfect. The filet mignon was big and super moist and tender. Cod was like butter with a crisp coating. Service was fast and timely. Only complaint was lack of meat in the mussels app the sause was excellent though"

  • "We had an early dinner on our anniversary which allowed us to have a relaxing drink at the bar then a wonderful dinner by the piano. The music, ambiance and food was great. The setting in an old Catholic Church memorable and Marty our waitress made us feel right at home. A great Anniversary Experience!"

  • "He had eaten at this restaurant about this time last year and the menu was full and exotic. The food was amazing to say the least! Our visit this year was unfortunate. The food, while good was just that.... good. The menu has changed and now contains the same 5 items that can be found at most restaurants on cape."

  • "Made to feel as though they wanted to serve you. A rare thing in dining today. Warmly greeted, service was excellent and the food was delicious. Our party had a combination of dishes from the menu and daily specials. Everything was terrific. Also enjoyed listening to the piano player while dining. It was as fine a dining experience as I have had anywhere. It reminds you that the small things do make a difference. Will go back again."

  • "My wife and I and the many guests we have brought to 'The Belfry' over the last 16 years have always enjoyed a memorable dining experience. The unique setting coupled with great grub, super service, and a relaxed atmosphere made 'The Belfry' our longtime favorite. Unfortunately the 'great grub', super service', and 'relaxed atmosphere' were not experienced by us last Saturday, June 21. Lengthy delays between courses, overpriced drinks ($14.21 for a martini), a 'changed for the worst' and skimpy menu, sporadic service (our waitress completely disappeared for long periods of time), and a general atmosphere that smacked of confusion all added up to a lousy evening. Needless to say, we will not be returning to The New Belfry."

  • "We have visited this restaurant at least a dozen times this continues to be our favorite. The food is outstanding but the service was a little off, due to several large groups at the time of our visit. Otherwise still a great place for fine dining."

  • "The Belfrey is an unusual setting in what was originally a beautiful Catholic Church. The duck was outstanding as was the tenderloin. Service was excellent, and the manager took time to stop by and chat as well as tell us about the restaurant. It was a lovely evening."

  • "I have been to the Belfry many times before. This was the first time this season. I think they were understaffed and working with a new staff. The food was ok. Nothing great. They had a party of 30 in the back room and the party seemed to take up everyones time even though the party members were clearly not happy about something. The young wait staff seemed a bit lost, didnt know what to do at times. We had a 7 minute wait to be seated (7 min until we were acknowledged after walking in). A young waitress brought our food out and left it on a tray behind our table. 2 min. later our waitress came out and put it on our table. It was still hot so it was no big deal, just clumsy. Im sure they will get there act together in a few weeks."

  • "We had a lovely romantic dinner at the Belfry Inn. I tried one of the new items on the menu and it was wonderful! The mushroom risotto is memorable, chunky with a variety of mushrooms, and their subtle flavors. The Beet salad was outstanding and the Haddock was memorable. We had wonderful martinis to start and enjoyed every minute of our visit, again. Can't wait to go back to the Belfry Inn."

  • "We waited a 1/2 hour to get a drink and place our order. By time we ordered, they had run out of what I wanted. Then it took much too long for our food to come. The food was delicious when it did arrive. They definitely do not have enough staff either waiting on tables or in the kitchen. needs to be fixed!"

  • "Visiting Sandwich village, you don't expect this. The Belfry Inn is a hidden jewel. Sophisticated food and a remarkable dining room. The food is not "cape cod" style fried food or basic steak and potatoes. It is what you would find in finer restaurants in Boston. Very good. "

  • "We enjoyed this meal from start to finish. The chef is not afraid to try innovative combinations and presentations with excellent results. Lovely interior, good waitstaff. Would gladly recommend and take friends and guests to Belfry. Two thumbs up!"

  • "I continue to give the Bistro high marks. On this visit, we were not seated in the main dining room which is where you want to be, and I had not realized that the night we were there (a Sunday), there was no piano music and the piped in music was somewhat too loud. Caesar salads are usually just Caesar salads, but this was somewhat different and was wonderful."

  • "We had an 8:30 reservation but the restaurant was obviously in turmoil. We weren't seated for a good 15 minutes. My boyfriend ordered chowder which took at least 40 minutes to seeve. It was $13 for an infintissmal amount of thin lackluster chowder. Entrees took forever and they too were very overpriced and spare. The salmon was barely warm an was accompanied by barely a tablesoon of wheatberries. So very disappointing!!"

  • "We found this restaurant while exploring around our new home. We loved it so much that we actually went twice in one weekend, something we had not ever done before. The complimentary amuse bouche that is presented before dinner is always an amazing few bites. The unusual veggie choices, and creative preparations make this a very special dining experience."
