  • "Bel Lago's location on the water at Hoover couldn't be more inviting for an evening dinner. Drinks and appetizers were outstanding. Dinner selection is rather limited, but provides options for fish lovers, vegetarians and meat eaters. Side dishes and salads are a la carte. Our entire dinner party enjoyed the variety of salads, which were excellent. Dinner entrees were good, but not particularly noteworthy. A bit pricey, but not unexpected for waterfront dining."

  • "Brunch at Bel Lago is very much over priced. While we did enjoy the scenic views of the reservoir, the food was disappointing. We arrived for an 11am reservation, which was the same time they opened, and it seemed as though they weren't ready for customers yet. Not all the food was out and what was out didn't seem fresh. The selection was lacking as was the space they used to set up the buffet. Using the same person to cook the omlettes and waffles made the buffet line longer. Overall we were very disappointed in our experience especially when you consider the cost of the meal. I would warn anyone looking for a good brunch buffet to stay away from Bel Lago."

  • "We loved Bel Lago as our neighborhood, good food dining. But they changed their menu, prices and took off all the things that we used to order. There really wasn't one thing that we liked! We went there for our birthday celebration with friends and ALL of us had same experience. JJ at the bar was awesome and we love the ambience, but I will not go back for the food! We were really disappointed."

  • "After hearing about the hype of this restaurant, we were excited to try it. We waited 40 minutes at the bar for a veranda table, understanding that these a high commodity tables. However, there were at least 4 tables available on the veranda that we could see. In addition, the menu boasted a dish with a pine nut crust. When it arrived, there was no crust and one of the managers in a condescending manner explained it was incorporated in the dish. As a culinary professional myself, I am quite flexible with menu descriptors but to say something has a crust and then explain it away in a belittling manner doesn't endear oneself to the growing culinary-educated public. Was sorry I spent my hard earned money there."

The night we were there the temperatures were very pleasant so the open windows made for a very enjoyable evening. The service was very good but did get a little slow as the night went on.   • "We have been to Bel Lago before, but this was our first time sitting on the veranda. It was noisier than expected, but it was a lovely setting for dinner. Our food was delicious - I loved my pea and ricotta tortellini. I would definitely recommend Bel Lago!"

  • "We had a very nice evening sitting on the patio. Food was delicious. Our niece who was visiting enjoyed it too. My only complaint was the person sitting at the table next to us who chose to talk loudly on his cell phone for the first 15-20 minutes we dined. Very rude!!"

Then came dining on the veranda where the food, atmosphere and service were not disappointing. It was definitely worth waiting for a table on the veranda.   • "They come across as snobby and a wannabe nice restaurant...the only thing nice was the view and the cars in the parking lot... Expensive for what the menu actually is. Had a reservation and when we got there were told we would have to wait for a table on the veranda.... Why have a reservation then? So we took a table inside and on our way saw 6-7 empty tables on the veranda...must be a special reservation for that. Ordered an appetizer that never showed up. Food took forever and we were surprised when they brought out our main course as they never even put in out order for the cured meat tray appetizer. If you like expensive and mediocre food combined with poor service then this is the place."

  • "When we ate at Bel Lago a month ago, we had one of the best meals and dining experience since we moved to Columbus. So we were in prepared for the disappointment on July 5 when we took guests there for dinner. Everything from the bread course to the desserts had changed. Four tiny cold meals, one was badly charred, were set on huge, heavy plates. The fish was chewy. The steaks were pre-sliced. We cannot recommend Bel Lago at any price and certainly not when $$$ meals are so badly prepared."

  • " I CANNOT recommend this establishment for dinner due to poor quality and quantity of our meals during a recent evening; however during a recent luncheon visit food and service was very good. Also, for our dinner reservation, made well in advance of our dining experience, I requested veranda seating since we were celebrating a special occasion. This reservation request was not honored, the hostess stating it would be a 40 minute WAIT. Again.....disappointing!! Won't be returning there anytime soon."

  • "Fancy sounding working class food that was mediocre in taste. Over-priced. Not nearly enough vegetarian choices. Older, wealthy Caucasian males clearly getting better service than "average" people. This was a surprise lunch for our friend for a great new job. We were sorely disappointed. We have plenty of money to spend but not in a place like this. It is too bad, the scenery is splendid and this could have been a great experience. We have rescheduled a date to bring our own picnic and walk along the water for our scenic view."

  • "the salmon was prepared best I can remember; mussel gravel on buttered toasted bread could be desert! the chicken was OK [a boy scout can cook chicken]...the leek tops, well you could make a stout rope out of them [there must be something better for a green bed] as for price vs. quality....its about $5/meal item over-priced, but could be corrected by including a salad as part of the meal...if you have a glass of wine, share a appetizer, have a salad and main course [not steak], the cost with 20% tip will likely be $60+ a person w/o desert the service was timely, and server gets a 10+ would I go back, probably, but not often, the P/E ratio is wrong...price/enjoyment all the very best to the cook and working staff"

On this visit, the service was impeccable and welcoming, the view was amazing and the food was frankly, a disappointment. There used to be a menu with many choices and this new menu was much higher priced and seemed to be aimed at a more gourmet crowd. Although we love the view and service, unless they change the menu, we will not return. We would like to see the menu with some moderately priced items."

  • "The restaurant had just initiated a new menu on Tuesday prior to our Sat. evening meal. The atmosphere was great. I had the homemade tortellini with the Bel Lago salad, and both were excellent. My son had to send his lamb back because it was a bit overdone. He ordered swordfish which resulted in another wait for both of us, but he said it was excellent. Give them time to work out the menu then go."

Found it to be QUITE expensive and perhaps a little too gourmet for the usual diner. It was wonderful, but I do not see myself going there on a regular basis as it is pricey for what you receive!   • "My husband and I are new to Westerville and a number of folks recommended Bel Lago for our 5th anniversary. Restaurant was beautiful, food was tasty, service was attentive, cocktails were fun. We could have sat outside on the veranda if we'd been willing to wait for 45 minutes, but opted to sit inside instead. View was a bit obstructed, but still lovely. For me, definitely a special occasion restaurant, not a weekly spot for dinner. Special, but not stuffy or pretentious."

  • "We went to the place before when it was called "Hoover's Grille" before, twice. The place has beautiful scenic view and feels romantic. However, the food quality is not better, if it's not worse, than previous owners. They call it Italian restaurant, but the food there is not Italian food-like impressive. Actually, the wine is not good, either. The dish portion is one of the smallest we ever had."

  • "45-60 minute wait for the veranda seating and we understand that it's popular. When we sat down the waiter came over to explain the new menu, the ENTIRE new menu. He probably stood there for 10 minutes explaining. Too much time for us to sit and listen. He explained that the menu was about 3-4 days new, and that NO substitutions could be made. We ordered and it took time bread and the salads, and the salads were tasty but expensive. Next came the entrees, same thing. VERY expensive for what you received. Three of us had the bass, not sea bass, it was decent but small. Dessert menu had nothing appealing to our table. $200 including tip (for 4 of us), and only two glasses of house wine were ordered. Not worth it."

  • "I brought my sister from out of town here and she enjoyed it. They just got a new chef and the difference between the old and new Lobster Mac & Cheese is amazing. The presentation and flavor has greatly improved. Unfortunately, both the Bloody Mary and the Chicken Salad were uninspiring but the chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert was delightful. We were seated on the veranda and although it had rained earlier and was humid, it wasn't that noticeable with the ceiling fans running even though the windows were open. It would have improved the ambience had we been able to hear the music as it was turned down to a whisper for some reason. Our waiter, Tyler was excellent. I've only eaten here for lunch and have never had bad service."

  • "I have a group of girls [we're all 70+] who meet for lunch once a month and Bel Lago was suggested as the place to meet. Making the reservation on-line was easy. We were promptly seated by the windows overlooking the water which I had requested when making the reservation. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. Your new menu has a lot of choices and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. It was a very relaxing atmosphere and we intend to come back."

  • "Costs too much for food that is just cheap fare fancied up with complicated names....our service was great but the food was not as good as it has been in the past. Menu is just weird, with "smaller portions to allow one to enjoy the companion dishes more"....meaning, you will go hungry unless you pay us more for a 2nd plate of food....ostentatious is new the watchword, not "casual elegance". Not going there again, and that is just a shame because it used to be a favorite place."

  • "My husband & I decided to go to Bel Lago for our anniversary. I made reservations through OpenTable and made a special request to sit on the water, which unfortunately was unable to be honored. The restaurant has lovely views of Hoover reservoir, but their menu was extremely limited. I personally do not love seafood, leaving me with about 3 main entrees to choose from. I ended up eating chicken with a bit too much fat on it; my husband the swordfish, which was a pretty small portion. Overall the meal was quite pricey for food that we thought was "just good," not excellent. We found ourselves wishing we'd gone elsewhere and actually skipped dessert at this restaurant to go another establishment. A bit too pretentious for my taste."

  • "it's so sad but I really try to like Bel Lagos but everytime there seems to be poor service.(slow) Also, there were dead little gnats on the table. I know we were on the porch but really the table should be clean. Also, the portion size for the cost is a problem with me. Also, the hostesses need to be trained more regarding greeting skills coming into the restaurant and leaving."
