Diner Reviews
  • "The food is amazing! I would go there everyday if I lived nearby. Why I said the beer is ok, is due to the temperature. On three occasions now, the draft beer hasn't been as cold as it was originally. I've been given different reasons why that is, but bottom line is that beer that's not as cold as it should be, diminishes in taste and overall quality."

  • "I've now been there for four different occasions: my birthday celebration, two casual dinners with friends, and a first date. During each experience, I found the service to be great. On my last visit, we didn't eat, only ordered drinks. We sat on the back patio. I should mention though, that when I passed through the restaurant to use the bathroom, it became tempting to order food because of how amazing other customers' meals smelled. Had it not been a first date, I probably would have suggested that we order food. My friends and I felt compelled to order beer, apps, and dessert when we visited beer belly for a casual dinner, considering everything's very enjoyable."

  • "Was excited to try the french dip duck sandwich after it featured on DDD, but the sandwich was lacklustre - the few slices of duck inside were good, but the dip, the bread & the small amount of aioli in the sandwich were disappointing. We also ordered the duck fat fries with bits of duck meat & crackling - fries were great (crisp, tasty & good-salty) but there was so little duck & crackling that I don't know why they even bothered. Brussel sprouts were a little overcooked, & the pancetta fat needed more rendering. Braised short rib on cheese puff pastry was ok, & the beers were the best thing. Mebbe we caught them on a bad day."

  • "Death by duck is amazing!!! Went with a group of 5 and we ordered a bunch of things for the table. All were delicious! Grilled cheese, wings, Mac & cheese. Our waitress was super nice, great service and Beer!!!"

  • "Beer Belly is good for a stop prior to a show at The Wiltern. It is busy and noisy, and the tables are very close together. The few menu standouts, like fried chicken, catfish, and grilled cheese are good. Most other items are fair to good. The beer selection is very good, the servers are friendly, but busy, and they've always seated us promptly with our OpenTable reservation."

  • "My date and I tried the following: - Pork Belly Chips (so yummy) - Death by Duck (duck confit on fries? You can't go wrong) - Brussels (I'm jealous I can't make these at home) - Buttermilk Fried Chicken (delish serving of tender meat) - Jidori Hot Wings (Buffalo Blue - spicy and Honey Dijon & Cilantro - not spicy) - Drinks 2 Hefeweizens, a cider, and ginger beer (mmmmmm ginger beer) Each dish was thoughtfully created. The accompanied sauces balanced the sweet, spice, kick, etc. perfectly. Their aiolis are LIFE! I could eat them on everything in my near future & be a happy girl. Ambiance was hip & casual. Def looking forward to making another reservation soon (after several weeks of working out the calories consumed during this meal)!"

  • "Great beer list and delicious menu items all at really decent prices. They have a great happy hour too. Staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Hip without the hipster vibe."

  • "Small inside space with some outdoor seating. Set back from the road so can be a little tough to spot. We walked so not sure about how easy parking might be. Really nice, reasonable draft list which is focused entirely on California microbreweries. Was able to try a few beers that I can't get in AZ. Food was outstanding. Definitely will go back if in the neighborhood again."

  • "While visiting LA we came across the name of this restaurant first and had to check it out. The beer selection is very good and the food was outstanding. The only thing diners should aware of is the food comes out as soon as it is finished in the kitchen. The chef does not time the dishes to come out together if your dining with a group. So you not be able to actually eat your meal together. A little strange, but the food is worth the wait."

  • "We saw Beer Belly on a popular food show and we're not disappointed when we tried it for ourselves. We made reservations for dinner before a show at the nearby Wilteen Theater. Reservations are a must! Most people were waiting over 90 minutes for tables in this tiny space. However, there is a lively bar scene inside and out to pass the time, and the beer list (draft or bottle) is great. The menu is small, but packed with unique tastes. We went all duck on this visit, but we'll be back to tackle the bacon dishes next time. Our server was friendly and fun. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Was visiting from Chicago and sought this place out after seeing their food and taplist. Was not disappointed. The beers were awesome and the food was outstanding. Ryan was a great server also. Those deep fried Oreos are to die for. "

  • "We drove from San Jose to LA for an event last weekend, and this was our first (and much anticipated) chance to eat at Beer Belly. We are thinking it would be worth the 10 hour drive just to go back to Beer Belly again. Everything we had was excellent, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The brussel sprouts were the best we have ever had, hands down. Can't say enough about the duck fat fries either. Go there."

  • "My only fault is their draft beer list is ALL IPA. Seriously, this isn't Portland. Some warm weather brews would be nice. Aside from that, the food is great, though on the mild side, the waitstaff knows how to both serve and leave you alone, and you can carry a conversation in a vibrant bar scene. "

  • "Saw this on DDD and had to give it a try. It's a perfect comfort food gone upscale hit. Great beer selection as well. Glad I made a res for 3:30 Saturday afternoon. The place was hopping. Great service as well. "

  • "Overall, had a good experience. When we went, the oven was down, which was unfortunate, but we were able to satisfy our appetites with fried, greasy deliciousness. Death By Duck fries were solid, as was the Duck French Dip. Had set extremely high expectations for Beer Belly, and unfortunately, they were not totally met. Very good experience here, but was not totally blown away, and the reputation of this place probably has had an impact on the somewhat inflated prices. Again, not blown away, but certainly would return."

  • "Death by duck fries are a must get and the grilled cheese sandwich is ridicules. The grilled cheese sandwich is unique with 4 cheese, great bacon and maple syrup but the twist is some of the cheese is on the outside."

  • "We heard about this place through Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives so we had high expectations. However, the highly regarded Death by Duck fries were just okay to us. The most disappointing thing was that we ordered the duck sandwich and it took and hour for it to get to our table - when we brought it up, the waitress seemed to have totally forgotten. Luckily she took the sandwich off our bill, but we left annoyed. Not impressed with the service."

  • "OMG their food was AMAZING. Their oven was having issues so we couldn't order the Grilled Cheese, Macaroni, or Short Rib meal ---- this eliminated about HALF of the best things on the menu so I was kind of disappointed. The rest of the food was pretty good. The wings were your standard wings but the dip really made them amazing. The duck french dip was surprisingly delicious!! And the deep fried oreos, I could eat 20 of those they were so good! My only complaint was the oven because it made their menu significantly smaller, but if it had been working I would say Beer Belly is legit!! I'll have to go back and try the short rib. "

  • "The food was nice and greasy. If you're not on a diet then this is heaven. Finished off with a jar of crispy pickles. It was a hot day so a cold beer would have been great, however the beers were disappointingly room temperature."

  • "So glad we made a reservation as it was very busy for a Thursday night. Got right in! Communal type dining which was fun! Service was speedy, friendly, professional, and helpful. Food choices were unique and cooked well. Couldn't have been better! Will be back!"

  • "The food is fabulous as is their selection of craft beers. Reservations are highly recommended as the place is small. If you are in the neighborhood, do not miss the chance to check this place out. The mac & cheese stack is crazy good. and the "Death by Duck" is one of their specialties."

  • "The food was the best comfort food I have had in a long time. Tried the grilled cheese, fried chicken, pork belly chips and death by duck fries. The best grilled cheese I have ever had! Love the aoli that goes with the chicken! Even though the food was fried it was not overly greasy."

  • "Went to beerbelly before the Jennifer nettles concert made reservations ahead of time got there and had a table waiting. We ordered ribeye and frys, shortribs, chicken wings, grilled cheese sandwich and fried chicken. .All tasted wonderfully good. But what I remember as being the most tasty was the garlic fries"

OMG. the food was unbelievable! the owner was sweet and the service was great. totally chatted with the couple at the next table and discussed how great everything was. would go again in a heartbeat."

  • "It was nice to make reservations on their website. I had to change reservation because of delay at rv dealer. Difficult to see from street. No free parking at bank next door. Valet parking $2. I had seen the place on Diners Drive in and Dives and I wanted to try the Death by Duck. The fries are fried in duck fat. They are served in small bucket with paper wrap. A scattering of duck cracklings and shredded duck on top. Unbelievably delicious. We ordered a second. My husband had the duck french dip. Although tasty very skimpy with duck. Bun could have been warmed up. Not a good value for the money. Lots of craft beers. Young hip crowd. Noise level was high. Forget street parking. Two outdoor patios."

  • "I don't know even where to start with how much we enjoyed our night here! First off, we were delayed about 15 minutes in stand still traffic but the hostess still had our table held for us and sat us immediately. Our waitress was sweet as pie and a complete doll! She gave a wonderful recommendation to the only non-beer drinker in our group who was thrilled with her selection. We ordered the bacon fries, death by duck fries, brussel sprouts, chicken fingers, and the grilled cheese, was not disappointed by any of it! Definitely a must see if in LA!"

  • "It was a last minute birthday celebration. My hubby really wanted to go so after making our reservations we, along with our three year old made it. The food was amazing but the service was spectacular!! Our server really helped us feel comfortable and brought an extra chair with padding to lay the little guy down. We will return very soon!"
