Diner Reviews
  • "I come often, for music and art and food. Very good food, imaginative preparation. The only suggestions is to change the menu more often."

  • "The live jazz is a great complement to an interesting fusion menu. I'd definitely recommend requesting a reservation in the downstairs music lounge area for a better view of the performers."

  • "I brought my husband here for a surprise late night bday dinner. He loves live music and from what I heard, it seemed Beehive would be the type of place he would love. And he did. However, RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST. I came here 1 time with a friend around 10 (no reservations) and we were told it would be a 1 hour wait. NO THANK YOU! But I learned my lesson, made a reservation, and had a great time! Would love to go back, just wish a table by the stage was guaranteed. You just have to hope for the best. Our server was awesome. Very vibrant, fun, and friendly. As was the hostess, bar tender, and other servers we encountered throughout our evening. Thank you Beehive...we will be back =)"

  • "Make a reservation. Friendly environment. Great server. Delicious food. Live music, which is loud - just request a table at a distance (if that's important to you.) My experience is that they are accommodating. Go there. (DQ to review - treating staff the way I wish to be treated.) "

  • "I've enjoyed many pre-show drinks at the bar and now finally we planned ahead to make a reservation and have dinner before the show. The downstairs dining room is such a unique and fun space, filled with energy and great live music. Meals were great (we went with comfort food - the short rib grilled cheese which is big enough for two to share but good enough that you won't want to share!) and our server was friendly and attentive. The tables are pretty close together and with a large spillover crowd from the bar it can feel a crowded, other than that it's a great place. "

  • "We enjoy an occasional night out, always looking for a great new place for dinner. We immediately liked the vibrant ambience and retro look to the cozy restaurant. We sat above the stage where a small band was playing cool music. The waitress was energetic and helpful with menu and drink items. Menu was short but full of interesting dishes. Signature drinks were awesome! Dinner was excellent, good quality food, well prepared, good presentation. I'd go again to try another of their menu items. Valet parking was $$$ so don't drive if you don't have to."

  • "I enjoyed my main dish but would have preferred the french fries to have been separate and not at the bottom of the green beans and meat. This made the fries soggy."

  • "A group of 5 of us had dinner on Friday night. It was busy, but not too crowded. We ordered a few appetizers for the table and then shared entrees as well. Food was great and so were the drinks."

  • "We arrived on time for our reservation but still had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. A little frustrating but once we were seated our server was attentive and fast. The restaurant itself is pretty nice and the live music is great although it does make it a little difficult to talk over dinner. We did the restaurant week 3 course dinner which was great."

  • "I came here for the jazz brunch with a friend. The food was pretty good, but the decor and music were definitely the highlights. There are plenty of tables with a great view of the band and the music is just the right volume: loud enough to be heard and enjoyed throughout the restaurant, but not loud enough to distract from conversation at the table. I had the eggs shakshuka. My only minor qualm was that it was advertised as being served with poached eggs (I'm a sucker for poached eggs), but it looked like the eggs had been baked instead. However, it was delicious nonetheless. The tomato sauce was spiced just right and everything worked really well together. I'll definitely be going back for brunch sometime soon."

  • "Very cute place - love the ambiance - they had a jazz band Sunday afternoon for brunch that was great. Would recommend to everyone!"

  • "Love this place for brunch. Live jazz or great tunes. Excellent cocktails, brunch is always the same which is great! Service is good, but it isnt a super "service oriented" place. Its a great place to tell the waitress to keep the rounds of drinks coming and laugh with your friends. NOT a great spot for kids - or I should say I would be annoyed if there were a lot of kids in there, but for those with young babies or well behaved littles it is a nice place because it is already pretty loud! All and all I enjoy taking newbies here because I know what I am going to get everytime and the space it is in is very cute."

  • "Nice brunch with jazz. They could turn up the jazz a bit, it is such a noisy place that you could hardly hear the music!"
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "Service was outstanding. Food was good but not for the health conscious. Bathrooms needed a good scrubbing. The most disappointing part was traveling in to the city to find no parking in the south end, and then to not be able to hear the live music over the noise in the restaurant."

  • "The Beehive's Jazz Brunch is a great option if you're looking to do something different for brunch. The South End has lots of great options, but none are as fun with live music and a lively atmosphere as the Beehive. I was disappointed to have to give a credit card for a reservation, and then have to wait for a table after arriving (it seems that if a restaurant is going to charge me if I don't show up, they should book tables far enough apart that I don't have to wait). I would also not say it's the best brunch in the area in terms of food by a long shot, but the atmosphere and live music make it worth it. Definitely a must try."

  • "We went to Beehive for brunch this past weekend. We've been there for dinner before, but this was our first brunch there. Excellent food, eclectic menu with lots of great choices, loved the live jazz music and the service was amazing! Everyone we spoke with from the hostess to the bartender to our wait staff - all were so happy, friendly and down to earth. We had a mixed group with adults and a child - everyone had a great time. We'll definitely be back many times! Great experience!"

  • "The Beehive is always a great place to go for fantastic jazz, delicious food, and some of the best cocktails in town. It's be the bee's knees!"

  • "Decor was great, service was very friendly. The drinks we had were very good, but the food was about average. I would probably pick this place to have a drink and listen to the live music rather than eating there. Not too bad though, will def go again."

  • "This place is always on the top of my list of restaurants for when I visit Boston. The food is always delicious - I HIGHLY recommend starting with the perogies, you won't regret it. Our waitress was great - very friendly with good recommendations. And I love the ambiance. The band that nice was awesome, great live music."

  • "I always enjoy the romantic atmosphere and the great jazz melodies in this restaurant. I love the food, the excellent service and the unique ambiance. Definitely one of my favourite places in Boston. I totally recommend it! Can't wait to plan another night there."

  • "Free music every night of the week makes this place ideal to spend an evening in Boston. Really good music too. We went on Sunday night...Blues night...and the music was stellar!!! My appetizer was just alright...but my duck and bread pudding were beyond delicious!!! The service was the friendliest I have ever had in Boston after three trips to the city. Would go back anytime when I visit Boston!!!"

  • "Had a 6:30 reservation. I arrived quite early, as did the rest of my party. Hostess and other staff were very nice and accomodating. We had a drink at the bar, and then were quickly seated in the area in front of the band. Tables are small and round, so two were pushed together. Its a bit cramped, and awkward when two rounds are pushed together. But no worries. Service was very good. We shared a platter of the hummus, tabouli, etc, which was a big hit. I had the duck, which was very good although either the duck or the rice was quite spicy. Everyone enjoyed their meals, then the band started. Their music was at the right volume for the setting. One dish, the linguine and clams, looked like a small portion. Good time by all."

  • "As a couple who always go to Beehive for brunch but thought we would switch it up and try dinner. We weren't as impressed as we are with their brunch but still a good experience. The meals were expensive for their size but delicious to the last bite. I would suggest sticking to their cocktail list as the wine by the glass we tried was less than impressive. Our server was not overly friendly, however, the rest of the wait staff made up for her less then stellar performance in their attention to our table. We would highly suggest Beehive to anyone looking to dine in the South End.... But We'd suggest their brunch over dinner any day."

  • "We gave ourselves a hour and a half for dinner at 5:30 on a Sunday and told the waitress we had 7 oclock theatre tickets. Our entrees came at 20 to 7 so we had to inhale what would have been a lovely meal at a slower pace. We were quite disappointed."

  • "I came here for jazz brunch and would highly recommend anyone living in or visiting Boston to do the same. Food was great and you get very generous portions - I had the breakfast poutine and it was mind blowing; the wife had the quiche, it was delicious and literally the size of a brick. Even the pastry basket we started with was awesome and I am not typically into breads/pastries. Staff is very friendly and attentive and the music and the ambiance was excellent. I took the in-laws here and they loved it, but would definitely go back with any group of friends, family, or just on my own. Keep doing you, Beehive."

  • "Good scene, good energy, good vibes. Only gripe was that our server made an off putting comment to us about how we were going to get her in trouble with her manager if he saw all the martini glasses at our table of three, but half of them were empty and hadn't been removed from the table yet. She didn't say it In a joking manner and it made my friends and I feel a little uncomfortable. Other than that it was a great first visit to Beehive."

  • "We had reserved a table for dinner and was planning to listen to the band after dinner. After waiting in the lobby for the last member of the party so we could be seated, we got our table for six. The waiter was not very welcoming. The food was fine but not amazing. After dinner we had to leave the table but four of us was hoping to see the band and stayed. But there was no room for us anywhere and we were asked twice by the staff to move to another place since we were in their way. The general feling after the evening was that we had been a bit of an inconvenience."

  • "The Reggae Brunch was wonderful. We had a wonderful seat overlooking the stage/band, and far enough away to still enjoy a great conversation with great music enhancing the great ambiance. The food - what can I say - each selection was wonderful, from sweet to savory we enjoyed every bite and will definitely come back again and have already referred many friends. Our server was also delightful, personal and had the right balance of time management."

  • "The restaurant is nice and i've enjoyed the live music and dinner there has been great. However, we went there for Saturday brunch, and I have to say, very pricey for what it is. Service was also lacking because after waiting for about 40 minutes for our food, it all arrived pretty much room temperature, so it must have sat quite some time before being delivered to us."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "The meal was delicious (mussels, short ribs, steak, duck), our server attentive and offered good recommendations; however, for a restaurant anxious about reservations to seat 10 minutes late - not so great (8:30 p.m. reservation, $25 fee charged if we didn't appear, 2 telephone calls the day prior to confirm, arrived 30 minutes early and stood at the bar, web site cautioning guests the table was yours for a limited period of time, and saw the table we were assigned empty for a bit, went to the host stand to inquire and promptly seated). Probably won't return unless it was convenient."

  • "Our party of 4 was seated in the front row - within 5 feet of the terrific jazz/blues band. Although we were concerned about the noise level when we were seated at 8:00pm, the band proceeded to take an hour break so diners could enjoy the conversation along with the food. The service was very good, although dinners came out a bit too fast. The beet salad was wonderful and the chicken and lamb w/couscous was outstanding. The portion was so large that I could only finish half (I'm a big eater). We will definitely be back!"

  • "The food was excellent, especially for the price. The jazz trio was a nice touch. Went for restaurant week, and none of the three courses disappointed. The downstairs bar had some event and was bumpin'."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance is so great- music and vibrant energy. Unfortunately the food itself wasn't great. I had the Lamb and Cosscous and didn't enjoy it very much. The salmon tartar was great tough. The service was slow. It must have been a busy night."

  • "Food was delicious as usual but as we were theater bound, we had a very friendly server who was completely in tune with our needs and schedule. We didn't have to tell her, she noticed our ticket discussion!"

  • "Thi Beehive is such a great restaurant. We went for restaurant week. The Sunday pasta with meatballs and short rib was fantastic. My husband enjoyed the artichoke lasagne. Portions are good. We were a bit stuffed when we left after having the carrot cake. Looking forward to trying their other restaurant in Cambridge."
