Upstairs, downstairs, outside. No matter where you are, Beehive is the best restaurant/club in the South End. This night, the mushroom and shrimp risotto was the pick. Romantic, yet lively, outstanding service, great bartenders, terrific jazz.

The aesthetic quality of the meal here is substandard. Taste is ok. I was shocked when I ordered the Japanese salad and was served a very sloppy pile of iceberg. Has the chef been to Japan? Food there is all about the beauty and taste. The main courses were just ok. This restaurant seems so 1985. They wouldn't survive in most large metropolitan markets.

I've been wanting to come here for quite some time and was disappointed. I've been impressed with their dinner, but Sunday brunch was absolutely disappointing. That is almost what they are known for and I was very surprised. The hostesses were nice, but once we got to our table we were rushed from the second we sat down by Kate, our server. She gave us a few seconds to look at the menu then came back and didn't want to answer any questions for us. Once we place our order took our menus, and I had asked for one back so a guest of mine could order a drink. It was almost like she couldn't be bothered by us. Every request we had was turned down. At the end she dropped our check because "we're setting the tables for dinner". This was at 2 pm.

cute spot in a nice location. got great ambiance - love the decor plus the live jazz. we decided to go with the restaurant week menu. the food was okay, limited selections but that was expected. the winner of the whole dining experience was definitely the atmosphere. will come again to try brunch and maybe a larger group for a chance to try other dinner menu items.

  • Great outdoor seating

    Dined on 8/22/2014
Two of us went to beehive for dine out boston. We had an earlier reservation so the outdoor seating was great (no heat lamps that we saw). We got the soup and lamb appetizers, I really the lamb and it was a large portion. For entrees were also large portions (steak and short rib) & the short ribs came with great sides. For dessert we got one each of the berry cobbler and bread pudding. The berry cobbler was great and homemade whipped cream. The main drawback was an employee (guessing buser) kept coming to check on us making us feel like we needed to eat faster even though there were many open tables around us (many I mean 3-5 times per course & we were not at all slow eaters- much quicker than those around us). Overall I would recommend it!

My gf and I had a wonderful dinner at the Beehive last week to celebrate her birthday. I'd given them a heads up of my gf's birthday a couple of nights before. When we arrived for our reservation, the hostesses immediately asked whose birthday it was, and warmly wished my gf a HBD. When we were seated - at the 'critic's table' - our server came over and again wished, sincerely, a HBD to my girlfriend. Our server recommended a great bottle of wine that we loved- a Lebanese blend. The manager came over to do our bottle service - again, HBD wishes. He explained we had the best seats too. Food was fantastic- tuna tartare and caprese salad to start, striped bass (just OK) and filet for entrees, bread pudding (with a subtle candle) for dessert.

I understand it was Dine out Boston week but a dinner that should have been an hour and half literally was 3 hours... We waited 30 min to actually speak to our sever at all. Maybe they were under staffed but as someone who wakes up early for work it was such a turn off. Next off I ordered the chilled tomato soup for my app... turns out it was chilled CREAMY tomato soup. I guess it was my fault for not asking because I'm lactose intolerant and since our server was impossible to get a hold of once we did I just wanted to get the ball rolling... Liked the old school band down stairs... If i ever went back it would be for that and a drink... nothing else was really that great or memorable.

Have yet to visit the Beehive and have a bad experience! Didnt love the jazz talent the night we were there but it could have been worse. The food was delicious, braised beef had excellent flavor an was not over done. I'm picky so I do wish they would put more lamb in the lamb and chicken couscous buts it's been solid every time I have ordered it. My maple bread pudding was over done and burnt on the bottom but my friends berry cobbler was tasty! Torrie was an awesome server, very nice and on her game. Overall the staff is excellent and work very well together. I look forward to going again soon, it's def a must hit up for my out of town guests!

It's a cycle: I'm looking for a place to have brunch or dinner with a friend, I get stuck on Beehive because the food is amazing and the ambiance is perfect for a cute night out or a boozy jazz brunch. I get there, wait 15 minutes after my reservation to be seated, wait 45 minutes to get any type of food, and then get shooed out the door by my waitress because they need to turn the table over. Seriously, this place has done EVERYTHING wrong when it comes to service. One time, a friend and I were having dinner and drinks. We had just eaten the last bite of our not so cheap meals, so we asked for one more drink. The waitress literally said no, but you can go to the bar and get one. This place needs a complete overhaul of its service and staff

Beehive has a unique feel and ambience to it. The live music adds to the experience, usually smooth jazz playing in the background. Young business crowd is full of energy and let's not forget about the great food. Only been there for late dinner and drinks, so can't say how it is for brunch.

We took some friends to the BeeHive Saturday night. The weather was great so we sat outside. The hostess was engaging and friendly. We asked about the plant next us. We were just making a passing comment but she got the manager to come over to tell us it was a hibiscus. Waitstaff was attentive in a non-obtrusive was. Our waitress was helpful with suggestions and prompt and efficient. The drinks from the bar were great. After a great meal which included much sharing, we asked if we coul move inside to the bar for dessert. They said that would be fine. Our friend had never been to the BeeHive and they wanted to see. We went in had some drinks, dessert, coffee and digestives. They were equally attentive inside.

Noisy, young, energetic and lots of fun, Beehive also has good though not great food. The waitstaff is friendly but overly pushy to turn the table. Once told that we wanted to relax for a few minutes with our drinks, our waitress did not appear again. After forty minutes we had to flag her down to put in our order. Until then she had stood over us, constantly asking us for our order. The food is good...ribs, special caprese salad, duck, and burger were all good renditions. It's surely good enough to come back. And we will.

everything was great except for the hostesses. we were sat 45 mins after our reservation time. half of our party had to leave because there was nowhere to sit and the hostesses were kicking us out of the waiting area into the hot summer heat. we make reservations for a reason, we should have been offered a beverage or something for our wait instead when we were finally sat we were rushed downstairs only to find 7 open tables! i was a hostess for 5 years, i cant imagine treating patrons like this.

They run a very good operation. If you don't have a reservation, they point you to the bar which is open to anyone as long as there is space (they have a full menu at the bar). The service is good, but not great. The wait staff is pleasant and they know the menu. However, the person at the door (the wait staff all have ear mikes to communicate with the "queen bee") is more pragmatic than pleasant. It would be nice to be greeted with a genuine smile rather than, "you're 10 minutes early so just stand somewhere where your not in the way" type of attitude. She had no time for niceties. Their menu mentions that they can charge $70 or $75 (not sure) if someone in the party in their party are a no-show. That borders on tyrany.

The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and read us well, making suggestions for a few items that we ultimately ordered and liked. The food was creative, fresh, and well prepared. Watch out though - the orange juice is not freshly squeezed, despite what we were told by our waiter. Still, food more than made up for it.

My wife and I came for the Sunday Jazz Brunch. I'd recommend asking for (and waiting for) a table near the stage if you are interested in hearing the music. We both enjoyed our meals, although I ordered the one item (the Bohemian Breakfast) that doesn't seem as large as the other dishes I saw going to other tables. The service was excellent and we noted the "team" that moved in as soon as a table emptied to clear it, clean it, and set it up for the next customer in a matter of seconds. Impressive!

The food and drinks are very good. The jazz makes the environment one that most would appreciate remaing at to finish a few extra cocktails when the food is gone. If you get the quieche plan to share because it is huge (makes sense at 16$). I had the benedict with smoked salmon and really love their home fries. Their home fries are these not yet chips/ not yet thick square home fries that are crunchy and soft in the middle. A personal favorite that always goes down well with a margarita. Take your girlfriend of new or old. Take your mom and dad. Leave your kids at home with the sitter ;). Thanks Bee hive! FYI I have absolutely no problem giving a bad review if necessary! Kudos!

What a wonderful way to start a Sunday! We ordered way too much food for two people - the shakshouka, coffee cake, Malaysian chicken wings, and skirt steak. The food was fine, the tables way too jammed in and the restaurant is extremdly over priced. However, for the first time ever I was told by the waitress that we should order appetizers and our main course together and then she later said that if we were going to have dessert then we had to finish in 20 minutes so they take on the next reservation. It also did not help that she initially just came to our table without any introduction, hello or welcome. Just are you ready to order about one minute after we sat down. Not a very welcoming atmosphere.

I love this place for the atmosphere and the great music. Bonus is that the food is fantastic, original, fresh and with a great presentation. Service is always great. The only down side is that if you make a reservation they often try to rush you out to accomodate the next reservation.
    Special Features:
great for brunch, fit for foodies, good for groups, romantic, late-night find
