BeehiveNiiice Mother's Day Brunch!Although my husband & I arrived on time for our reservation, my son was running a bit late. The hostess was very accomodating & didn't insist that we be seated immediately. My son arrived within 10 minutes. We were seated near (but not too near) the live jazz band and thoroughly enjoyed the food & music, which was low key, traditional (think Ella Fitzgerald) and quite good. Conversation was easily heard but the restaurant was solidly booked. The service was excellent, the food was terrific-great day all around!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was great except...I love Beehive! Everything was great about the brunch! One thing I did not like was being rushed to leave. As soon as my husband signed the check, the waiter took it away...it never should be done that way. They always wait for people to leave before picking up the signed receipt. It is not that we were sitting for too long, we just got done with brunch when they got the check and then rushed us by their actions. I understand that mother's day morning is busy but let this mother at least breathe.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMhappeningthe reservations were exact. we knew it was a happening place before we arrived and expected to be rushed out as soon as we ordered dessert, but honestly, it did not feel that way. the band came on at 10 and they were great. the hostess did a great job and our server knew his stuff. parking is an issue in this area. costs about $22 on a saturday night in the garage directly behind the building, so save yourself some time and just use the valet.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe Loved BeehiveMy husband, daughter and I had brunch on a Saturday. This was our first time at Beehive. Service was great, food choices were excellent. Plus the food was outsatnding, and the live jazz made it even that much better. We will definitely return!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBeehive Jazz BrunchEverything was great and if you like music the Jazz brunch can't be beat. Been once before with my wife for a nice romantic pre-theater dinner and came back this time for a day-before-mothersday family Brunch with the Adolecent kids (I wouldn't recommend it for little kids). Food is creative enough for the Foodies (my wife and I) and Familiar enough for the Kids. Not super cheap but reasonably priced considering the quality of the food, the location, plus the live music.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Jazz, Better Food!Loved the brunch choices--some great menu items that are different, as well as some great old standards. The Jazz was terrific.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLives up to its reputationSaturday jazz brunch at The Beehive was a real treat. You can feel the energy of the place as soon as you walk in. We were seated almost directly in front of the stage which was a fantastic start to our experience. The bloody marys were nothing short of amazing, but the food was the real star. I had eggs benedict with thinly sliced virginia ham (the frites were super tasty, too), while my girflriend had your quiche that she could not stop praising even two days after our meal.
We will 100% be back with friends as this is sure to be a staple for us in years to come.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, Excellent serviceOur waitress (Jaimee) was fantastic. She was energetic, friendly and on top of everything. Good selection of items on the menu and decent wine list. The jazz band playing was great and even with them playing and the restaurant full, we were able to maintain conversation at our table. I've been here a few times and highly recommend it.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFun Spot To Dine! The Sunday Jazz Brunch was such a unique dining experience! Service was excellent and everyone was very friendly, even acknowledging our anniversary. The food was very good. The band was not obtrusive to dining but lent a gentle ambience to the afternoon. Good job!!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery CoolMy wife found this place while we were visiting Boston. It is in a cute little neighborhood, next door to a local theater. The food was amazing. I got a Moroccan style breakfast: polenta and tomato sauce with a poached egg, pita, and sausage. We loved everything on this plate! My wife got the pulled eggs benedict with shortrib. The meat was pulled and typically this style can come out dry and bland but it was very well done here. The meat was very well seasoned and flavorful, tender, and moist.
Food aside, the ambiance was very cool. There was a live jazz trio playing on stage for most of our meal. The decor was lovely and felt very inviting. I would definitely come back here.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBig gap in music. This was our first visit to the Beehive. I loved the Beehive cocktail !! Great start to our evening at the bar while waiting for our table. We went to the basement bar to listen to the band. Once we were seated at our table with a great view of the band playing, they completed their set. It was about 8:00-8:30pm. The next band was not going to start until 10pm. We were expecting to hear a band while we ate. The special halibut with risotto was great. My husband says the steak was, OK.
We had to pick up our child at the seaport at 10pm, so we did not stay. Not having music during dinner lost some of The Beehives appeal to me. But, I can imagine that it would be a neighborhood favorite late night spot!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant, Ecclectic, ExcellentThe Beehive has never disappointed. The cuisine is French-inspired but they have added their own ecclectic twist. The portion are generous, but that does not take away from the quality and uniqueness of each dish. The ambiance in wonderful, dim lighting, heavy velvet drapes, fun paintings, chandeliers, and they have managed to maintain a lot of the original building, which gives it such character. The jazz music (or blues depending on the night) is at just the right volume and truly adds to the atmosphere. The bar is fantastic, great drinks and overall liquor selection. This is a favorite spot for various occasions; brunch, dinner, late drinks and music.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for the great entertainmentRecently visited Boston for weekend & Beehive listed among our B&B's top 40 restaurants. Website looked cool so made a reservation for 10pm because PM entertainment scheduled for 10p-2a. When we arrived, there was a line out the door of people who wanted to go to the bar (of which there are 2- up and downstairs & seating in both areas too.) Entertainment was phenomenal & that alone made the place worth the trip. Food & drink were adequate but didn't wow (fried clams too fishy, beet soup 1-note, sole ok but not memorable), though my husband's burger was delicious. If you go, get the burger. Our waiter was very helpful & accommodating & went out of his way to fix a gross drink I ordered so I could drink it. I'd go again as I had a great time.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time experienceThis was our first time to the beehive and will defiantly be back again. The atmosphere was unique and the food was amazing. It was great to have live jazz music during dinner5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best, most uniqueOne of the best, most unique restaurants in Boston. Excellent food, great atmosphere (with live jazz band), exceptional staff.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a find!Everything from the moment we entered was amazing! Waitstaff, entertainment, food, ambiance, etc.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMYummyIt was our first time visiting the Beehive and we ate great food, listened to awesome music and had nice company. We will be back again! Our family from far far away loved it as well.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA college visitWe brought my college grad there with a couple of her friends for dinner. Everyone had a wonderful time, the service was very personal and fun. We all had drinks which must have been somewhat strong as there is some blur to the rest. We had Calamari, onion soup, entry of short rib grill cheese, which is huge and fabulous, swordfish taco, burgers. We all left happy, full and with leftovers in hand.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMI met a girlfriend at theI met a girlfriend at the restaurant on a Thursday night - this was my first visit to the Beehive - I read the reviews and some were mixed - I found it to be very good all around and would definitely recommend the restaurant. I was early and had a drink at the bar - the bartender was excellent - attentive and friendly and the drink menu is inventive. My cocktail was perfect! We were seated on the balcony overlooking the downstairs so we could hear and see the band but the noise level was not too much to enjoy conversation. Our waitress was friendly and took great care of us - the food very good as well. The bar downstairs was very lively if you are just going for a drink. All around, a great find!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBuzz about the BeehiveToday I went to the Beehive for the second time and it was wonderful! The Shrimp and Grits dish was fabulous. My "Lefthanded Screwdriver" cocktail was strong in a good way :)
I do plan to go back in the future and try dinner next time. The Brunch menu is wonderful and I expect the dinner menu to be just as good.
The food and drinks are worth the price. The live music is always good I think the overall experience was a positive one.I would recommend this place to anyone and my server "Jen" is the best, I had her on both of my visits there.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial OccasionWent there for a special night (anniversary) and we were treated wonderfully by the staff and owner!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great dining experience!Another great dining experience! One of my favorite brunch spots.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Beehive was great. I tookThe Beehive was great. I took my girlfriend here on a whim for brunch (because who doesn't love a "jazz brunch"). Aesthetically the place looks great. The layout is very unique and very geared towards focusing on whatever is happening on-stage. The music itself was amazing smooth jazz that only served to build the ambience. The only strange thing is that they advertise constant live music during brunch, but for the hour and a half or so that i was there, there was only about half an hour of music. The music also changes styles day by day, so it motivates you to go back for more. The wait staff is very conversational, even though they can be a bit snappy during busy times. Finally, the food was great! I recommend the frittes! Delicious!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMJazz Brunch was great! niceJazz Brunch was great! nice music and the food was excellent! grits!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a special venue withThis is a special venue with jazz, modern sounds, a real buzz. The setting is unusual, fanciful, and totally different from any other restaurant. It is a bit noisy which I usually dislike, but because the music is live and the atmosphere is conducive to an upbeat, fun experience , I find it "relevant" noise and not just annoying. You can still have a conversation.
The food is the surprise. The menu is quite varied, inventive, and truly delicious. In other words, the venue, music, and food all contribute to a more creative experience than most any other restaurant in the city. The waitress was attentive and really pleasant.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAt the BeehiveI had a very pleasant dinner however when I comepleted my reservation via opentable I had requested seating on the lower level but instead was seat in the uppper level in a pretty small corner. After a while we didn't mind because we still had a good view of the band and could hear the music.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was the best I'veThe food was the best I've had in a while, and I enjoy eating at restaurants with good food. The service was friendly, warm, and timely, and of course the live music (and decor) are distinctive and add a special ambiance.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went with our businessWe went with our business group for a 730 seating which worked great as music starts at 8 so we discussed our business and enjoyed the music and food.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMy family had brunch at BeehiveMy family had brunch at Beehive last Sunday to celebrate our daughter's graduation and it was terrific. The food was wonderful (I highly recommend the French toast!) and our server, Lydia, was a delight. This is where you want to go for the perfect dining experience.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe atmosphere was great,The atmosphere was great, and the food high quality. Everything was a bit over priced though. $15 for a basic (nothing special, not even that good) bloody mary was disappointing.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent non traditionalExcellent non traditional brunch venue with an outstanding staff and excellent music4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOur table was ready upon arrival. Our table was ready upon arrival. Also very cool and unique inside. Highly recommend. I'll be back.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBusy bees at the beehiveBeehive is lively and young. A great combination of good food, interesting people watching, live music, and a location close to everything else you want to do.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a gread dinner forWe had a gread dinner for my wife's 50th b-day. Appetizers (perogis, meditteranean platter, fried squid) were delicious and easily sharable. Selection of main courses held something for meat lovers, fish lovers, and vegetarians -- all delectable. Atmosphere was perfect for a celebration with friends... not too loud and not too stuffy.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSave room for dessert! TheSave room for dessert! The food is incredible and the jazz adds nice entertainment.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI really liked Beehive, theyI really liked Beehive, they had great drinks and delicious food. Their jazz brunch really added to the experience. I had tried to go to the Beehive for dinner a few times but the wait was too long without a reservation. I will definitely go back for dinner once the weather is warm enough to sit outside without the wind blowing dust into my food. The poutine was delicious but so was everything else we ordered. Really, no complaints.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFulfilled expectationsI'd been hearing of the beehive for ages and just made it. The staff and service were excellent, the food was delicious and the music was great. I'll be back! Every one of us had a different entree and barely spoke as we ate, typically a sign of good food!
The outside is unassuming and a little nondescript, but once you go in, the atmosphere surrounds you. It's cool but casual, not too pretentious, and mostly a 20-30 something hang out, laid back feel, but there was a little dash of style in dress (at least late on Thursday). It wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk, and our every need was cared for. Had a great time.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe gone for dinner as a spurWe gone for dinner as a spur of the moment and so glad we did. Everything was great, we had the truffled pierogi for an appetizer and it was delicious. Our waiter was attentive and really helped us to figure out our meals. I was surprised by how good the pan roasted duck was, perfectly cooked. My friend had the lamb and chicken couscous and was very happy with the dish.
Drinks were great, and the live music was at a moderate level so we could still talk and not yell at one another. A real hit, we will be back.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe brunch was awesome! GoodThe brunch was awesome! Good drinks, good service and the moroccan inspired egg dish was phenomenal!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, great serviceExcellent food, great service and beautiful atmosphere. Doesn't get any better than the beehive.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding night, the foodOutstanding night, the food and service was great, I can't wait to go back4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic FridayThis was truly a find- the service was great- attentive without being obsequious and the food was fantastic, the somalier was informative and kept within our budget requirements. We will definitely go back again.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Beehive is a hip, happeningThe Beehive is a hip, happening jazz bar/restaurant in the burgeoning South End scene. Easter Brunch was a wonderful experience with a live jazz band and Easter egg hunt for my girls. Everything was terrific, although I would say that the Eggs Benedict were simply very good, not excellent. For the price that was charged $33.95 per person, I expected a little higher quality. But still the experience overall was terrific.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Beehive was a pleasantThe Beehive was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance was warm and inviting and where else can you have a great meal with live music to boot. The cocktails were terrific and I highly recommend the Queen Bee. We had Mussels for an appetizer and they were some delicious. They were somehow buttery. My rissoto with duck and jalapeno was amazing. Everyone's plate was clean as can be. The band was also great. They looked like they were having such a great time and the music was just right in loudness where you could enjoy it and still have a conversation with your friends.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother stellar jazz brunch! This was our second time at Beehive for the jazz brunch. It's expensive, so it's only for special occasions. But the food is out-of-this-world good and the service is great. And the music both times has been quite pleasant (I'm not a huge jazz fan but it's nice background music).
Two tips: First, make a reservation. Otherwise you are not eating brunch at Beehive. (Although I suppose since you are reading this on OpenTable, you already know this.) Second, if you want to have a conversation, request a table away from the stage. Otherwise it can be loud, and you feel rude talking over the musicians. If relations are frosty between you and your spouse and your normally eat with the TV on, request a table next to the stage :)3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, a great time, greatAs always, a great time, great food and music at the Beehive.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely excellent -- chairsAbsolutely excellent -- chairs could be a tad more comfortable but the food was spectacular, the service was great, the band was fantastic and everything else was just right.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went there after the theatreWe went there after the theatre and had a wonderful meal..3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBeehive's bohemian ambianceBeehive's bohemian ambiance adds to the unique dining experience which this restuarant offers. Even during Restuarant week the menu was imaginative to the palate and delightful to the eye but the servicer and staff made the evening outstanding. I would be amissed if I did not thank our server, Lydia for her attentive but not overbearing service.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
