  • "This place is great looking inside and the menu looks pleasing. We ordered the BOGO apps--avocado egg rolls and buffalo chicken strips. Both were quite tasty. Then the meals: Chicken Cordon Bleu, Cajun capellini, chicken and waffles, and made to order pizza gave us a nice overview and broad selection range. All were tasty, but not fireworks worthy. We may return, but it's not a must."

  • "This is our second time at this restaurant and both times and didn't have the cocktail of my choice and it took about 10 minutes to even get one ordered, this is a money maker and the help should be right on this!! Took longer the pervious time and the owner was just standing at the bar while the bartender was over worked didn't make any sense. Think the food is good but will be awhile before we return in hopes they will get these things straightened out. Not many people were there for a Saturday night that should tell you something unless they have a very late crowd coming in."

  • "The food was very good. The only problem was the selection of wines by the glass. My wife and I don't drink the same types of wines and we like pair different types of wines with each course. There was only one brand of wine for each type and the brands were at best very average. We will return however. There are very few restaurants within 25 miles that have decent food."

  • "We have eaten here twice now and have been impressed with the food both times. Our meals were hot and delicious. The eggplant dish was a fresh twist on eggplant Parmesan, the scallop dish was cooked to perfection and the steak was good. Rare find for this kind of cuisine in the greater Flint area. We will return. Be forewarned tho, Sunday is a brunch, if you don't want that try another time."

  • "The waiter did not deliver bread (to my husband) or drink in a timely fashion, while the restaurant was only 10% occupied. I specifically mentioned that I am gluten allergic, but the food was still containing gravy with gluten. After I double checked to see if it was gluten free, he assured me that he mentioned to the chef about my request. However, I suffered greatly for the following three days and nights for the gravy was made with flour instead of corn starch. Not very professional. My husband's food was long awaited, and ended up was defrosted and reheated to a point it was too dry. Very disappointed. The draft beer was flat and the wine list was way over priced to pair the the food there. Will not go back there."

  • "Service was great, food was tasty. Our group will come back again. There was a little.problem with credit card connection so we had to write checks but manager came over and was very apologetic. The portobello fries were delicious. They had a bananas foster french toast special.. yum!!!! "

  • "Had a great meal at Beef and Barley. The calamari and beef tip smothered fries were very good. The Breakfast of Champions burger was awesome, especially with the bacon infused maple syrup. The beer selection was really good, lots to choose from. Our server, Amy, was outstanding. Will definitely be back."

  • "I made a reservation through Open Table for a late Friday afternoon gathering for a small group. What an easy process! The group of us had never been to "Beef and Barley" before, so we were very excited to try it out. We all took advantage of the Happy Hour "BOGO" appetizer deal and the $3 mixed drink special. We liked all the appetizers, but loved the table side guacamole and the mushroom fries the best. Our server was able to answer all of our questions about the menu and was very attentive. We will definitely try "Beef and Barley" again for their Happy Hour Specials! As for ordering outside of Happy Hour, I did think the prices were a little high and would probably pick a different restaurant in the area to go to."

  • "Everything was ok, but it isn't somewhere I'd frequent for a typical dinner spot. Prices are a little on the high side to eat there more than maybe the time to time special occasion. Also, as a party of 6 there was hardly any table space. A little extra elbow room would be nice so not be elbow to elbow with your sitting neighbor. I did like how all the wait staff looked very uniformed and clean in their black and white ensembles."

  • "I had the philly cheese steak, and it was delicious! The restaurant was clean, the staff was genuinely personable and the food was great! I have been there when the restaurant has been really busy, and I have been there when it has been virtually empty. Both times I enjoyed myself. It's also really great that it is close to where we live."

  • "Beef and Barley, very open atmosphere, the waitstaff was very courteous. The speakers were barely audible. I heard AC/DC playing, and then later soft country. Due to the open floor plan with no false walls to block the sound, the speakers were of waste, you couldn't hear the music over the din. The food was good, not great. I ordered the diablo chicken. It was supposed to be spicy according to the menu description but was not so. three jalapeno slices in a jalapeno sauce, with soft green and red peppers. The accompanying rice was watery. My date had chicken cordon bleu, which she said was too tough to cut through the outer layer of breading. The plating was nice, the service was quick."

  • "Was not impressed with the food. Thought it was over priced for the amount of food you got. Dinners do not include a salad. Have to pay 4.95 more if you want a salad. They do give your a bun, that was very good. They say it is complimentary, but I am sure it is figured into their high prices. Do not plan to return."

  • "My first visit was with another couple and my husband. We decided the appetizers couldn't be passed on. We had the avacado rolls and the chips with 3 dip selections. Wonderful. 2 of us got the strawberry salads. Too much spinach, strawberries were wonderful. One of the guys got the build you iwn burger, said it was very tasty. The other person got a turkey on chappada bread. Saud it was just okay. Server was attentive to start the meal then hard pressed tp get her as the dinner went on. Will go back... wish the servers were more attentive. Ie: beverage fill ups, clearing plates, etc. Glad to have a new restaurant in Flint..."

  • "Enjoyed yet another visit with my wife. Service has always been great! We had considered Beef and Barley our new go to Restaurant, but the recent menu change has left us feeling the offerings are nothing special. This is not to say what is left on the menu is of poor quality; just our favorites were taken off. These included: Southwest Egg Rolls and all the Premium Sides. If I am not mistaken, this was our eighth visit and it will probably be our last for a while. Only because of the menu change. Service, Beer offerings, and Location are all top-notch in our book."

  • "The food was good, but the service was severely lacking. We were seated promptly and a waiter with water came by and filled our glasses, letting us know that we were not his table. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. We waited for approximately fifteen minutes before our waitress came to take our drink order. I was bothered by the fact that she didn't seem apologetic; she hadn't been told that we were seated. She took our order and our salads were brought out quickly. Our appetizer came out minutes later, and our entrees were not far behind. The food was good, but it did not overcome the service, and on the whole, it was not worth the money."

  • "We were a group of 9 on Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy. Our server was as helpful as he could be but it was obvious the kitchen was backed up, We waited an unusually long time for appetizers and our meals. Our server couldn't even find a set of salt & pepper shakers for our table. Coffee was delayed because we were told it was still brewing. I felt bad for our server. For the price of the meals, we expected much better service. This is the second time I've been to your restaurant with similar disappointment. I will probably not be back."

  • "Wife and I went for dinner and let's just say, we won't be back. The craft beer lineup was average, with no stand outs/hard to finds. The wine list appeared decent. While the food menu was extensive, our Scallops and Tuna were less than expected. Add that to the final cost of the bill in relation to the experience and you have two customers not returning."

  • "Our Mensa group has been meeting for monthly dinners at restaurants usually within 25 miles of the Flint area since 1989. Our reservation was for 12 at 6:30p February 26, 2014. Our dinners usually last 1-1/2 hrs with lots of conversation. In this case service seemed very slow. We weren't ready to leave until 9p. Food was excellent. My wife and I had driven there separately. She left as I was reviewing and paying the bill so we did not have a chance to review it together then. We discovered later that we had been billed for 4 glasses of wine at $8.50/glass, while we had actually only had 3. Perhaps an honest error, since each person or couple was billed separately, There may have been some confusion as to who got what but still!"

  • "My husband and I love this restaurant. The price is good, and they have variety of food. It is better than the Apple Bees, Big Boy, and is about similar level like some blue collar gourmet restaurants, but not as pricey as some neighborhood upscale restaurants. You won't feel embarrassed to be seen when someone you know happened to be there."

  • "Menu is not what I expected from the name. Table side guacamole was not impressive. If you're gonna have that on the menu, it should make a statement, and not be served with chips from a bag. 1.5 avacados, 3 lemon wedges, dash of cayenne pepper and salt is not something I'd shout about and prepare in front of my customer. Got a lot of work ahead to be a successful restaurant."

  • "I visited Beef and Barley with four friends. Our party of five had a reservation and arrived a few minutes before our reservation time. We were asked to wait for about 15 minutes for a table to be cleared off-We were led to the back section of the restaurant that lacked the ambiance and character of the front. The waitress left ONE menu for our group of five. Overall, throughout the whole evening, service was slow to nonexistent. We all ordered drinks and one person received a drink while the others waited for about 20 minutes. The food, however, was good. Everything was tasty. I would not recommend until they get their service issues worked out."

  • "I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day and as expected, it was very busy. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed and honestly the service was not very good. I understand it was an extremely busy day, so it didn't bother us too much. The beer list was pretty good, even though they were out of many of the choices. What made the night though was the food. The ahi appetizer was quite fantastic and so was the grilled salmon (despite being way overcooked) and 12 oz ribeye. The sides for each entree were quite tasty as well, especially the gnocchi! The creme bulee was alright, it just didn't taste like it was really homemade. Overall, we were both very satisfied with our experience here and will be going back again!"

  • "Risotto was awful. Overall food was good besides risotto. Server didn't wait on us for over 30 minutes. Not near as good as the first time I came to the restaurant. A little disappointed knowing how good this restaurant can be on a normal night."

  • "Had the filet with clam chowder. The food was excellent, the soup was delicious and clam chowder is not a favorite of mine. The filet was cooked perfectly on an extremely busy evening, there was not an open seat anywhere, the cut was very tender and everything I would expect from a high end steakhouse. The mushroom port wine sauce for the steak comes on the side which is excellent since I don't believe you should ever mask the flavor of a good steak with a sauce, however the sauce was so good I couldn't leave it alone. Some of the tables are spaced a little too close together, it wasn't enough to turn me off of the restaurantOverall I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will be returning myself."

  • "This place is amazing. My fiance and I eat here nearly every weekend. The staff is great, very friendly and quick, which seems quite a bit different for some others here, we've never had a bad experience here with the waitstaff. The food here is VERY good, you can tell that they take quite a bit of pride in how their food is both presented and how it tastes. Without a doubt I feel like this is the best new restaurant in the flint area. Everything is delicious, and everyone is very nice and accommodating to their guests. I do recommend using opentable to reserve a table, especially on weekends, as they tend to get quite busy. The people that opened this restaurant really know what they're doing, they've definitely earned my business."

  • "Our fifth or sixth visit was for Valentines Day. There was a special menu with one cost depending on the Entre selected. Since we have eaten here multiple time in the past, the cost wasn't a concern. In the end, the final price was less compared to their regular dinner menu prices. The service after being seated was top-notch. It is always great when your server shares a bit of him/herself with the table. Allows for more trust to be built. We shared our love of dogs with the server we had this evening. We were appropriately checked on; not too often and not too seldom. The food we selected we have had many times prior; and it was just the same: Very Excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone I know."

  • "Food was very good, severer was nice but slow and seemed confused with lots of wasted motions. Bar staff was extremely slow and operated with no sense of urgency. Better bar staff would have increased the tickets at our table by 20%. Get the service kinks worked out and this will be a local destination because of how well food was prepared and presented."
