The ambiance was charming and country-like, the food unique with the outdoor grill and pit. The wine list well chosen and not over the top. The service pleasant and not rushed. I commented to my wife there is not another restaurant who's room I would like to be seated not too crowded not too noisy nicely appointed. we hesitated to try this place due to concern over level of service. (our local favorite special occasion joint is le chateau b/c of their service.) peter, the manager, made an effort to introduce himself to all guests. our waiter was nice albeit slow to refill wine glasses. found local rumors about the service didn't apply that night. will definitely return again.
garden choices were excellent and the pork chop was beautiful. salmon was a bit too salty to my taste. DD loved her chicken fingers but it was on the salty side, close to horse & hound.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience!From the moment we arrived to celebrate our anniversary we were treated with care. Atmosphere is beautiful, great for special occasions. Food was delicious. Our favorites were the asparagus appetizer and the homemade pasta with cheese was wonderful. Service was very attentive and a dessert plate was decorated with Happy Anniversary in chocolate which was a nice touch. I would recommend it especially for a special occasion.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMhad a great 11th anniversaryWe have been lucky with the perfect temperature for a dinner in the garden. The 5 courses tasting menu was extremely enjoyable. They also kindly changed one course to accommodate my wife.
A minor comment on the music: volume was ok, not too loud, but they could pay a bit more attention to the selection, a bit of classical music or some jazz would be more appropriate.
One watch out: on the way out we walked through the main dining room inside - which had by then filled up - and the noise level was pretty high... definitely much better out there in the garden. But then again, temperature needs to be right for that.
We truly enjoyed and will be back as soon as they change the seasonal menu, which they do every 2-3 months I believe.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMcelebrated our 26th anniversarycelebrated our 26th anniversary there on friday night. Our server could not have been more attentive (but not stuffy or overbearing), the food is fresh, local and delicious, and we were surprised by the healthy size of the portions.

I had the whole hog and that vinegar flavor worked perfect with the hog. My wife had the salmon and loved it. Hats off too Jeremy for his take on southern hog. The chess pie for dessert was outstanding. Reminded me of Momofulku in the city. The courses were bunched a little to close, in regards to timing. Food was very good but have found it better when the restaurant wasn't as full. The surrounding gardens are beautiful and add to the charm of the inn/restaurant. The service was very attentive without being intrusive. The ambience is very tasteful and the food -- from appetizer to dessert - was excellent! The menu is a little pricey, so probably more of a special occasion place, but well worth it!

The menu changes too often to make recommendations, but if you have the opportunity, try the tasting menu. I've had the tasting menu and have ordered a la carte, both experiences were flawless. If you are looking for a quiet night away from NYC, this is the perfect spot for you (and if you spend the night at the Inn, check out the yoga classes in the morning).4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent apologizeIt was our first visit. Our reservation was 9:00pm. we could have sat at 09:35pm. They apologized and they gave us complimentary dishes. I was impressed their attitude and mostly their manager. Personally, he came and said sorry and made us to forgive them from this late acceptance to dinner. Ambiance was so so. Delicious food but cold pasta!. We sat inside but I am sure that out dining was more charming and pleasant. Over all we were happy. I am thinking to visit there for lunch next time.

Given that the reviews tended to be either really good or really mediocre, we went expecting anything. Two of us had the tasting menu, which was fantastic. The ricotta and pear first course was especially delicate and delicious. The other courses were all very tasty as well but the beef short rib really stood out. The caramelization on the ribs was almost like candy - incredibly rich and worth waiting for. The other two in our party had the 30oz ribeye to share and it blew everyone at the table away. The quality of the meat was spectacular and they smoked and dry aged the beef on the premises. The service was also excellent and the wine selection by the sommelier was stellar.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
