Diner Reviews
  • "My friends and I celebrated a birthday at Bedford Post. Parking, service, food were all just perfect. The only down side for me was the noise. But great overall."

  • "I have enjoyed this restaurant in the past. It was very loud this time, coud not hear my companions. portions were tiny."

  • "Waiter did not speak good English. He was very nice, but didn't get my hamburger order correct on first or second try. Otherwise food is very good."

  • "Nothing went well with the experience. The waiter was totally inexperienced. We ordered salmon with salad. It was so plain, thrown into a bowl, even the dressing was tasteless. The procesco was good as was the dessert scone, however one goes to this type of restaurant expecting a nice dining experience. There is no excuse for this."

  • "The Bedford Post boasts a charming and warm staff, who add to the appeal of this oasis. The atmosphere feels like a blend of your grandmother's kitchen and top notch bistro. The fireplace that crackles beside you, sets the tone for a peaceful, warm and enjoyable meal. With a talented chef who obviously cares about his craft, you'll be in for a delightful culinary experience...the burger was divine! This is a place to return to time and time again."

  • "Wait staff is attentive and ready to please so early in the morning. I asked for the fireplace to be set and lit for our meal with friends and it was. Quite pleasurable on a very cold winter's day! Great coffee! Interesting menu choices...oh, that Dutch pancake...yum! It was a wonderful breakfast."

  • "I met a friend on a cold day for lunch at The Post. There was a lovely fire going and a nice country atmosphere inside. The waitstaff was friendly and courteous and after we finished let us sit and talk without making us feel as id we needed to move along .We both had the chicken paillard on top of the Arugula salad and it was delicious! Will definitely do it again- a much nicer lunch than you are going to find anywhere else in Bedford."

  • "Sorry to hear that the restaurant is changing hands, did not know this prior to my visit. I noticed subtle changes, like asking for bread for the table before the meal arrived. I was told that bread was not served on weekends because there is no weekend delivery. So I could order one of the pastries, if I wanted. Really? This was a $50.00 lunch for 2, we did not order alcohol and only 1 ordered a virgin Bloody Mary. The place was busy, but no more so than any other time I have been there, the service was poor at best. The food was good, but the portions were small for the price. Hoping Jean George starts serving lunch soon."

  • "We come to the Bedford Inn a couple times a year. First because it's a stunning relaxed room. It feels old world. Second, it's absolutely the perfect atmosphere for a weekend brunch with friends. The smokey smells from the kitchen are to die for. However, over the past few years the portion sizes have gotten very small i.e. a burger w/ fries: I think I could count exactly 20 thin sliced fries on the plate. When served w/ a salad, I had to ask for more because even in a 3rd world country that's not a salad portion. The service continues to be extremely poor. Simple requests like "dressing on the side" or "extra whatever" cannot and never are accommodated despite the servers assurance. Getting the bill took forever."

  • "Great breakfast experience - food is delicious and rustic in presentation. Will definitely go back."

  • "What a disappointment, and a costly one at that. Service was incredibly poor and inattentive - the waiters were horsing around behind the bar not paying attention. The mussels shared as an appetizer were good, but nothing outstanding. Had to ask for bread to dip, and that took forever. The veggie burger was good and unusual, worth taking note of but, the cuban sandwich, not very large, overdone to the point of almost burnt, and extremely salty. The bare wood table top was not wiped between appetizer and next dish and one would think that a restaurant of this caliber would recognize that mussels are eaten with your hand and you need something to wash/wipe them after you're finished eating them. $4.00 for coffee! That gives you an idea."

  • "Restaurant small, cozy and casual. We had reservations and had to wait only five minutes for a table. For brunch all tables were filled. The brunch choices were many, we each had a different choice: Eggs, bacon, sausage all perfect, frittata was yummy, Brioche french toast was very good, poached eggs over salmon were delicious . There is also a nice selection of pastries and croissants which we ordered to take home. We were a table of four, 2 of the orders came out wrong but the chef came out almost immediately with the correct order, I think the plates got switched in the kitchen. It was very picturesque with the fireplace and everything draped in snow outside the front windows. Would like to return in the summer for the outdoor seating."

  • "While I love Richard Gere, I can't say the same for his restaurant…sorry. The space is perfect for a winter brunch however, our food came out cold. As we were with new friends, we didn't want to make a scene. I had the oatmeal which, despite being cold, was good but the portion size was small. My husband had the eggs which were cold as well."

  • "I love this place, not only is the food really good, but they can do gluten free if you desire. Their gluten free bakery products are so good they taste REAL, not gluey or like cardboard...."

  • "We sat upstairs on Sunday, Jan. 26th for an early afternoon brunch. It was a chilly up there. Service started out sluggish at best. A drink order was taken immediately and because we'd been waiting for a while and were hungry we also ordered a pastry with our drinks. No one returned with our drinks for close to ten minutes and when they arrived the pastry was missing. From then on, things improved dramatically. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service the rest of the way was attentive, friendly, and efficient. We'd come back. The portions, as we'd been warned, were on the small side. We ordered accordingly and left satisfied. The pricing is appropriate. Next time, we'll wait to sit by the fire."

  • "Great Room, wish the food and service were as good. The food came out cold and our waiter seemed just confused and we were there for brunch! It was a surprise since the menu only had about 20 items on it."

  • "Choice on menu was awful as usual, chosen breakfast dish was good but some items were cold? Portions small, my husband ordered another dish! Horrible weather day so we expected to be cosy and enjoy the beautiful surroundings( reason why we continue to return!) but the fire wasn't even lighting and there wasn't even any soup. Is it only us that find the menu odd or limited??? Anyway, until next time!"

  • "Had only been to The Farmhouse at Bedford Post previously and was pleasantly surprised with The Barn. Went on a Thursday night with another couple and even though there was a large party, the space felt intimate. Real log fire burning, nice bar area with tasteful decor. Would consider sitting there when just 2 of us. They were offering 6 courses for $40 which seemed reasonable but a bit too much food for us. Shared cauliflower, brussel sprouts and carrot tapas then onto scallops. All were very well prepared and delicious. Our waiter also treated us to some desserts which we appreciated. Will definitely be back."

  • "Do not sit upstairs. . .unless you want complete quiet and privacy. Downstairs has the atmosphere but at certain times for lunch and brunch during winter months, can be quite loud. We have sat outside during the warmner weather and it was delightful. Service is excellent. Wait staff charming and do not rush you through your meal. Food is outstanding. . .menu is mixed so there is a variety"

  • "I've eaten here many times and I've always been impressed with the quality of the good. I love that it's perfect for all seasons as it's cosy in the winter and you can eat outside in the summer. Very kid friendly."

  • "The brunch at the Barn at the Bedford Post Inn was okay. The food was very good, though seemed to be way overpriced for what it was. The service was lacking and not very polished. The room/space was really disappointing - it was not a special or distinctive room and was very loud. Overall, I would not recommend this as a destination dining experience. Disappointing."

  • "i'll be quick 1. food very good 2. service very good, perfect on our day.. 3. upper level in the barn, nothing special, lower level very nice. 4. price-you go here, expect it high and you wont be disappointed. 5. parking-worst, gangster looking guy taking your car into a mud-gravel lot only 50' from the door. i like to park my own car. and lock it. 6. my wife went back 2 days later with a friend to empty a gift and they loved it. 7. enjoy, prob. will go back in the late spring to eat outdoors. 8. snuck into the main restaurant and inn. they showed me around although they were closed. this could be be what you want. check it out."

  • "The Barn at Bedford Post was a perfect choice for a friends' long overdue reunion. The 4 of us sat upstairs, undisturbed for 2 hours enjoying the sounds of a cello-accompanied yoga class somewhere in the Inn. We chose between both brunch and lunch menus-every dish a winner."

  • "Lovely location. Luncheon at the Barn very noisy with other groups .. mostly women! Brussels appetizer exceptional. Pumpkin soup served lukewarm. Salad in Chicken Paillard was tasty; chicken was edible but tough .. expected better! Asked for a slight refill on glass of wine, which was poured direct from bottle .. but then charged for full glass. Overpriced .. but ok for occasional lunch. Happy Holidays!"

  • "I love this place because of the room, building, surroundings etc and it's proximity to us but it is difficult to get my husband there! He will only go now for lunch, dinner upstairs is a no-go and we have dined there numerous times, the problem being the menu or lack thereof! Anyway, they have a burger for lunch which is great. But hey Bedford Post chef, PLEASE have some whipped cream on standby for pie, you NEVER do and who wants to eat a piece of pie on its own even from an aesthetic point of view?? They had a beautiful fire lit : )"

  • "while the room has an authentic new england charm, my view from our table was towards the kitchen and the door opened and closed continuously so i mostly saw the inside of the cleaning racks. we had a late lunch and were subjected to the cleaning up and shift change, noisy silverware cleaning etc. we got no bread, and the food was only mediocre."

  • "We were disappointed with the Bedford Post. While the food was tasty, it wasn't the outstanding dining experience we had read about and were expecting. Nothing was spectacular. Lots of things were uneven. Some portions were very small, some were large. At times the waiters were attentive, at others, they seemed to ignore us. I don't think we will be going back."

  • "Unfortunately, they claimed they did not have a restaurant week menu for lunch. I checked the listings and they did have lunch checked off. It was a disappointment that they did not honor their commitment for restaurant week. Food was tasty and the presentation was lovely."

  • "This is a nice place with good food - just don't go on resturarnt week. There was very little food (and i am not a big eater). Some resturants really do a good job during resturant week - this is not one of them."

  • "We went for lunch during restaurant week. The food was tasty , but the servings were tiny! Butternut squash Soup as an appetizer, & a mushroom menestra as main course that was basically a mushroom broth...large bowl , tiny serving.. Not much food here, & not worthy of Maine course..pork was tough..we left hungry."

  • "Gathered with friends for a catch up luncheon and decided to go to the Bedford Post as it is in our neighborhood and we have all been before. Service was terrible. After 25 min, I finally asked our waiter if we could order. When we were done with a very unimpressive lunch, we again waited for a half hour and could not even get a waiter's attention to order coffee and dessert. Finally, again I had to ask another waiter to please try to order coffee. Again, the wait, until I was able to get our bill. When we placed the cash on the table, the waiter was there within 2 minutes. We arrived at 12:30 - we finally left at 3 - we should have been done by 1::45 if not for the unbelievably slow service and inattention."
