A word from Beauty and Essex
From the team behind The Stanton Social comes Beauty & Essex, a grand 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, & lounge in the heart of the lower east side.

The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.

The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

Diner Reviews
  • "the waiter overheard us saying that it was my friends birthday and he brought us out a cupcake with a candle free of charge without us even asking. the grilled cheese and tomato soup dumplings were amazing. the lobster mac and cheese was unreal too. we ordered a total of 6 plates for 3 people and the price was only about $35 per person (we didnt order drinks, though). highly recommend dining here!"

  • "As I walked to the restaurant I began doubting my choice. Do not go by the neighborhood. Beauty and Essex is a gem. Without doubt the dumplings in tomato soup are the yummiest I have ever had. Our waiter was very friendly. The place itself is like a jewel. Love the decor. We were running late so we could not explore in depth. I will definitely be back"

  • "The food was great but the service from our waiter was terrible. He did not check on our table and was rude."

  • "The place is amazing and The food breathtaking! What a great surprise. Try the ceviche and the scallops. The only thing I would change is the Hostesses, they are lost and arrogant. Took them 40min to get us on our table."

  • "This was my first time coming here and it'll def not be my last! I first learned about this by a few friends and a client of mine. I did a little research and I loved how it's got a pawn shop before entering inside the actual restaurant. The ambiance, food and drinks were all incredibly good! My friend and I even enjoyed a glass of champaign downstairs in the ladies powder room. So happy I came, you won't be disappointed."

  • "One word amazing! I love that you get free champagne in the girls restrooms while you wait for the bathroom!"

  • "Had dinner and drinks with my girlfriend. The bar was very fun, trendy, and had some great drinks. Food was great, and service was quick. Definately a fun night out."

  • "Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. I've been for brunch as well as dinner. With friends and on a date. This restaurant accommodates both."

  • "The place feels great but the food is just reasonable to a west coast person."

  • "I am sure the food was good. It was recommended to us by a friend. We were two moms with our two sixteen year olds who are not foodies. It was wicked loud and wicked cool. We had one drink and left to find "regular" food. Our waitress was the best- so understanding and helpful with another suggestion. The shop I front of the restaurant was an interesting surprise."

  • "Great food...great vibe, but at dinner ...forget about having a conversation with your friends at the table! Noise level is crazy!"

  • "My boyfriend and I LOVE, Love, LOVE this place : ) Form the secret locale behind the Pawn shop facade, to the cool n swanky decor that is reminiscent of a "speak-easy" it is an awesome experience. However, given that the FOOD is SO AMAZING and TOP NOTCH and it is a hot spot where lots of people go to be seen - the noise level is quite "energetic" ; ) A MUST for the FOOD and uniqueness of it all : )"

  • "B & E is a nice and trendy place well located, with outsanding food. Surely would recommend."

  • "Food was impeccable, hands down. Getting to the food was a funnel of appropriately dressed patrons mixed with t shirt and shorts .. Why have a dresses code of no ripped jeans if you are going to allow such dress. To me, it makes no sense."

  • "The restaurant looks awful from the outside then you walk through a pawn shop into a buzzy, slightly chaotic, glitzy restaurant. Food is great and they have a gluten free menu. Only complaint was the loud, club style music which doesn't work for me whilst dining."

  • "Must get the grilled cheese, bacon dumplings and the apple & kale salad. The box of doughnuts for dessert was also a winner over the s'mores tart. Reservations don't mean a lot here (you should be on time, but you are going to wait). We waited about 30 min after our reservation on a Wednesday night for a table and when we got there the lobby area was filled with people waiting. Not sure about the backlog. I have been here for an earlier reservation (6:30-7) and I think I preferred that time over the 8:30. All in all - great place. it adds up quickly $$$! Make sure you get your free champagne in the ladies room!"

  • "This is a trendy restaurant with some really great food. If you are looking for a "scene," this is the place. If you are looking for some interesting food and people watching, Beaty and Essex fits the bill. We had a party of 3 and we all really enjoyed our meal. The server did a great job helping us navigate the menu and the food came out at appropriate times with our drinks always filled. I would highly reccomend."

  • "The food was ok. I have to admit, was very excited to finally check this place out and was wayyyyy underwhelmed. The food was fine, the drinks were fine, but for $200+ I expected much better. Stanton Social is the 'sister restaurant' if I am not mistaken, and I thought it was just as good, if not better (both food and drinks). I guess you pay for the '"experience"..."

  • "The place is designed to impress, and it accomplishes that end with solid service, excellent décor and good food. A little NYC gem hidden in the LES."

  • "We went all the way downtown to try B & E because there aren't many great restaurants for brunch, but we wouldn't go back because it it was o.k. but not great. The restaurant is nice, ambiance, moderate, the music was too loud and the place was freezing when we came in but many people complained, so they did turn down the AC. The service was excellent, the waitress was very pleasant. The food was adequate but not exceptional; the dessert menu was not tempting. I would not recommend it unless every other restaurant was already booked. The couple sitting next to us, who were from England, left when they saw the menu, not a great brunch menu. There were a lot of tourists - they must promote on tourist sites. New Yorkers know better."

  • "The ambience and decor here is really chic. They play great music but it is a little loud which makes it somewhat difficult to talk. It all adds to the scene though. The food was inventive yet nice spin on a few classic comfort foods. The service was very attentive and our waiter was wonderful! I would definitely go back again."

  • "People have been telling me to go to Beauty & Essex, but for some reason, the concept seemed very contrived. A pawn shop in the front? That sounded very strange. Well, it works! The delicious food is the real reason to go, but the ambiance is really fun, too. Now I'm sorry that I waited so long to go! But I'll definitely be back."

  • "Came here for dinner for a bachelorette party. Had a reservation for 7:15 for 6, but ended up having a last minute addition and few late-comers. They were very accommodating especially for a Saturday night. We ended up not eating until closer to 9, but luckily we got seats at the bar so we didn't mind the wait (especially since it was our own fault). Would definitely recommend for a girls night out."

  • "good food, service was a little slow, got very loud after around 8pm. waiter was knowledgeable, but busboys were a bit rude. one dropped a cupcake and never replaced it."

  • "This place is not for everyone - no place is. That being said, and not knowing much about this place other than it popping up as one of 2 top spots for 'Romantic Dinner Lower East Side' it was a blast from start to finish. Walking in through the 'Pawn Shop' and then through a door that made it feel like a Speakeasy (or Eyes Wide Shut...) was quite a shock. The waiter made many fantastic recommendations - although the drinks were odd, and the corn ice cream so-so, they were completely overshadowed by the flavor explosions the Chicken Meatballs, tomato-soup with grilled cheese, Maker's Mark Shots, Bone Marrow platter, and even the Kale Salad were. Meatballs. MEATBALLS! Amazing - we'll be back to try other items, for sure."

  • "The food was excellent, the service impeccable. We had an 11 o'clock reservation and we were the only ones there over the age of 35. Full of "girls night out" groups."

  • "You're looking for. Very cool entrance with a pawn shop feel and then the door opens and bam! I wanted to have a dinner with my 22 year old son and it was a bit loud for conversation. But if you want to feel cool And happening- this is it!"

  • "Not much really to say, other than you will not be disappointed. The food was amazing and every course was better than the last. The staff were incredibly helpful, from dead-on recommendations for food (type as well as quantity), to their knowledge of the impressive drink menu. All combined for a fantastic night out. The speakeasy feel of the entrance and over the top glamour of the main foyer of the restaurant really make you feel like you've found some hidden gem."

  • "I went to Beauty and Essex with my husband and my two sons both in their twentys. Loved the unique entry and gorgeous decor inside. I am an interior designer so atmosphere plays an important part and this restaurant gets 5 stars. Will definitely be returning."

  • "I have not been to beuty on Essex In 3 years, at that time it was full well dress atractive people , great food and service, Sunday was not the same people dressed like they were going to beach , service was very poor, as the waiter said to me When ask for more sauce , it wall be 2 bucks , it's lost what made it a great place."

  • "This place measures up on all counts! Our best NYC meal of the trip. Carlos the server made all the recommendations and he was batting 100%. A great night."

  • "My wife and I LOOOOOVE Beauty and Essex. I travel to the NY area frequently for work and bring my wife with me whenever I can, and since we discovered the brunch at B&E we have been back every single time she has come up here. Between our three visits so far we have ordered at least a half dozen different menu items and as many different cocktails, and were not disappointed by any of them (the red velvet waffles are our perennial favorite). The atmosphere is upscale and chic and the service is always excellent. It's very easy to get carried away and spend a lot of money, but only because everything is so good! Can't wait to come back!"
