A word from Beauty and Essex
From the team behind The Stanton Social comes Beauty & Essex, a grand 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, & lounge in the heart of the lower east side.

The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.

The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

At first sight this place looks just like a pawn shop, oh wait, it is a pawn shop that opens up into the most amazing restaurant. Our experience was fun and delicious, we had a fantastic waitress that couldn't do enough for us. The food was so good, especially the salt and vinegar fries and the bone marrow on toast. We also tried their donut jewel box which we could have had two serves of. The only thing I would like to add is that the music is quite loud but it adds to the experience and vibe of the place.

I had very high hopes for this place considering who the executive chef is. Although the decor is fantastic and the salmon ceviche was a plus, it is EXTREMELY loud (I might as well have come alone, I couldn't hear anything!) and the other food was nothing to rave about. Specifically, the scallops were cold and had an odd smoky flavor, the lobster squid ink pasta was so runny that when you ate the noodles it was difficult to taste the broth-like "sauce", foie gras appetizer was so sweet that it should be categorized as a dessert, and peaches toast had so little burrata thinly smeared on the bread, that it could be easily confused for ricotta or cream cheese. Service was top notch but the overall experience was very disappointing.

OUr friends visiting from out of town were mesmerized by everything, they could not believe the quality of the food, and the artistry. Our waitress was so helpful, and we were not rush at all (many hot spots in nyc are doing that). Highly recommend this place for a fun night with great food and drinks.

The title says it all. We went in a group of 8 people, the food was great for sharing and staff were knowledgeable and helpful in recommending good dishes and were able to adjust each dish so we had enough for all of us. It was great food and cheap for the quality. I would go back anytime. Make sure you book.

Beauty & Essex is a good place. Our server was lovely and the food was good. My only complaints are that the corner tables are too small and awkward for four people (we have been seated at them several times), the music is too loud, and the DJ couldn't mix. One more thing...the servers should take and replace flatware when clearing plates, not set it on the table.

Delicious food; love the concept with sharing it! We shared six dishes and would specially recommend the salmon ceviche, the beef carpaccio and the tomato gazpacho. The only thing we didn't like in this restaurant was that we felt they were in a hurry with getting us out of there. Why? Well, new dishes were put on the table and the old ones were removed before we had finished with it. We had to snap the food of the plates after the waiter had lifted them off the table. Same thing with the dessert. The bill was put on the table before we had finished eating. We could have wanted more, but weren't given the opportunity! That said, I have to mention the lady toilet. Make sure to pay it a visit together with a girlfriend or two :-)

Food was fast and good, but this place is way too loud to enjoy it. My date and I had to scream back and forth to have a conversation. We asked to be reseated and were stuck directly next to huge speakers both times. Our waitress claimed they'd turn them down, but that was a bold faced lie. Frankly, this place is more concerned w/ having a posh club atmosphere then being a legitimate restaurant. The hostess and servers were overwhelmed w/ the ridiculous amount of foot traffic and they clearly over booked their tables. If I wasn't more concerned w/ getting the hell out of this pretentious place, I would have complained to the manager. I expected more, especially given the hefty price tag.

Definitely be going back there and recommending this place far and wide. Thank you for a wonderful experience and night.

I love testing out restaurants around the world, and I would put this one near the top of my list. From the uniqueness of the place and ambiance combined with the sensational food experience (which we opted for the Chefs recommendation on selection of food due to fashion week - which enabled us to have a selection that maybe we would have not chosen, but found the combination (entrees) worked so well together) was an explosion on our taste buds, that was hard to compete with. If you get a chance to go here, based on our experience you will not be disappointed.

I took my wife here for her birthday. we had never been, and when our waiter learned this, we feel like he tried to up-sell us at every chance. We asked for the wine list, he said "what kind of wine do you want...Rosé, Pinot.." rather than handing us the list. In the end he talked my wife into a $18 glass of wine...thanks dude. then when we ordered food he insisted the plates were "quite small" and that we weren't ordering enough, saying the entrees weren't very large. As it turns out, we had way too much food, and the entrees were definitely large enough. Other than that experience, the place was great. lively, tasty, quick service. if you're hungry, you'll love it. just watch for the pushy servers.

Definitely a cool vibe to the place -- you have to walk through a little jewelry/pawn shop to get into the restaurant. The food is very interesting because it's new takes on classics like their famous grilled cheese and tomato soup dumplings! The word I kept using over and over was "trendy." Came here with a girlfriend to celebrate a 23rd birthday and it was definitely the place to do it!

Unfortunately Beauty and Essex didn't live up to the hype. It is a nice looking place and that is just about where the niceness stops. The lobster tacos were the only tasty dish we had on the menu. Chicken biscuit lacked taste! Just hard, cold and dry. The other dished were uneventful and I can't even remember them now. However, I remember the waiter's attitude when when told him it was a bit too cold in the restaurant. He said to us, "Well good, because it is really hot when you go outside!" He added, "I like it cold in here." Clearly customer feedback doesn't matter here. Well, the attitude did suck and soon people will catch up to that too! Wasted our time and money here. Never again!
