A word from Beauty and Essex
From the team behind The Stanton Social comes Beauty & Essex, a grand 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, & lounge in the heart of the lower east side.

The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.

The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I LOOOOOVE Beauty and Essex. I travel to the NY area frequently for work and bring my wife with me whenever I can, and since we discovered the brunch at B&E we have been back every single time she has come up here. Between our three visits so far we have ordered at least a half dozen different menu items and as many different cocktails, and were not disappointed by any of them (the red velvet waffles are our perennial favorite). The atmosphere is upscale and chic and the service is always excellent. It's very easy to get carried away and spend a lot of money, but only because everything is so good! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "I have not been to beuty on Essex In 3 years, at that time it was full well dress atractive people , great food and service, Sunday was not the same people dressed like they were going to beach , service was very poor, as the waiter said to me When ask for more sauce , it wall be 2 bucks , it's lost what made it a great place."

  • "This place measures up on all counts! Our best NYC meal of the trip. Carlos the server made all the recommendations and he was batting 100%. A great night."

  • "Loved, loved, loved this place. Food, service, decor all great. Going back real soon."

  • "For appetizers we had the grilled cheese and empanadas, and for dinner we had the spaghettini and brick chicken and broccolini as a side. All of it very good. I highly recommend the chicken and the sauce for the broccolini was Asian flavors done very simple but delicious. They also were super accommodating for my wife, who is vegetarian, and had no problem serving 3 of the 6 grilled cheeses without bacon. For dessert we shared the s'mores tart with some cappuccino/macchiato and it a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Overall the experience lived up to the hype! We are fortunate to come on a night when the place wasn't super busy which worked well for us."

  • "Had to ask our waiter 3 times for our after dinner drinks. He kept forgetting. In the end he was apologetic but there were 7 of us. How do you forget 7 drinks 3 times. .?"

  • "Everything about this place is amazing. The front is nondescript, then you walk through the door and you enter this amazing experience. HIGHLY recommend to all!"

  • "A bit too loud for conversation but dynamic. Good food and attentive staff."

  • "Our daughter recommended your restaurant a year ago. We are from out of town and I finally was able to secure reservations. Dinner was incredibly delicious...loved the tapas style. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and what would complement our meal as a last course. Cannot wait to go back again!!!!! Don't be dismayed by the pawn shop exterior....the gem is hidden within. Try the onion rings, eggplant,....actually try everything!"

  • "Love the food love the service. Only thing I didn't like was that the tables were pretty close to each other and the music is loud. Therefore if you are talking to the person sitting across from you you need to talk loudly and have the tables on either side of you hear your conversation."

  • "Food was great, service was great. Perfect ambience with good music."

  • "Service was all around nasty. So was the crowd. Rude all around. So sorry because the food is amazing! I guess the chef doesn't have to deal with the staff or patronage."

  • "Came here with a party of 4 on a Sunday night. Had to wait until our entire party arrived to be seated. Our waitress was very friendly, but we had a difficult time getting her to come to us - we had to flag her down each time we needed another drink. My friends were very irritated by this fact. The ambiance and food was delicious as it was the other times. The drinks we ordered were delicious, but I would have ordered more if I could. The difference being we all ordered desserts this time - the butterscotch pot was absolutely divine. Despite the service, I will continue to recommend this place."

  • "B&E provides a memorably great experience for all your senses. Novel entrance through a pawn shop, attractive, open decor, free pink champagne in the ladies room and a shared type of tapas menu that was consistently delicious from appetizers ending in milk shake shots for the whole table. It is not inexpensive, but well worth it. We had a group of six and all of us thoroughly enjoyed a fun, delectable evening."

  • "I loved the fact that you had to go through the pawn shop and that there was a bar in the ladies' loo. The food was really good as were the drinks at the bar. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Amazing food and service but don't go for date night, it was so busy and noisy i could hardly hear my other half from the other side of the table."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "This is always my go to spot for the beginning of a fun night out on the town. The ambiance is extremely classy and fun. The only negative thing I ever have to mention is the extra wait time even when you have reservations."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "This is a very cool restaurant, with the entrance through a "pawnshop.". We enjoyed a great selection of small plates. The ambiance was spoiled by the horribly over active air con."

  • "Been here multiple times and it never disappoints!! Food was delicious and the service was great as always."

  • "Went for brunch. Nice vibe: unique entrance and beautiful interior. Our waitress was okay, and table service was frequent and good. The food was delicious. However, they will do not do food substitutions - whatsoever! The food is, as is, on the menu - take it or leave it! (Example: One of my friends couldn't eat the onions mixed in with the side hash potatoes on a dish, and we asked for roasted potatoes instead - which was featured as a side on another dish. No way! You're just going to have to go without potatoes!) Considering the expensive price of the food, I feel there should be some flexibility. Most other restaurants that are considerably less expensive are more flexible than this. Not likely to return."

  • "Great restaurant with an interesting concept. Small plates meant to be shared by 2 people. Food was very innovative and delicious. The only negative is that there are so many tempting dishes, it is hard to make your choices!!!"
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Overall, this is a well rounded restaurant. The biggest problem is lack of space and privacy since they try to cram small tables into every nook and cranny."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Everything we ordered was excellent. I love the speakeasy entrance and the ambience is great"
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "Thought the whole set up of the place was great.... it has definitely got a wow factor. We got on board with concept of small tapas type dishes to share. There were some interesting dishes and we generally thought the food was very good quality. The atmosphere was buzzing and if you are looking for a quiet romantic meal this is probably not the place to come. Would definitely recommend a trip here though..... very imaginative."

  • "we came during our honeymoon, which was indicated in advance to the restaurant. the service was super slow and poor. we had to send back the tuna dish as it was uneatable (much too spicy, with no taste). they gave us a "present": 2 glasses of champagne (which we didn't order), and then, added them to our bill.. the desert (chocolate, "most recommended one") - was pathetic, so we send it back too. value for money was embarrassing, compare to alternative. terrible experience for honeymoon, and any other occasion for that matter. never again."

  • "I was looking for a last minute reso for 6 people fo rmy family for Fathers Day and thankfully I found Beauty & Essex on OpenTable! Beauty & Essex has received many great reviews and from the photos, it looked like a great spot for brunch with the fam. My family and I loved the dishes that they had. My dad being a huge steak person enjoyed the breakfast steak with eggs very much. Thanks Beauty & Essex for a great time!"

  • "I had a friend come to town and wanted to give her a truely special NY experience. This fit the bill perfectly. we were prepared for it to be a bit pricy but worth the experience."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "The service at Beauty and Essex was the worst that I have ever received.. First, the waiter could not get my order correct at least 3 times. I was interrupted and asked about my order constantly. Additionally, the waiters were very haughty towards my group. They glared and took away my plates before I was even finished with my food. I had to ask for water atleast 3 times until I had to ask a busboy to get my water. There was a strange smell near our table (akin to pee) so I lost my appetite. Can not believe this is an iconic nyc restaurant. The food was salty as well. The red velvet waffle was dry."
