A word from Beauty and Essex
From the team behind The Stanton Social comes Beauty & Essex, a grand 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, & lounge in the heart of the lower east side.

The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.

The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

Had enjoyed it once before, but for this last visit, the seating for two is less than ideal, was very loud and overcrowded. Our food came out a variety of ways, lukewarm, undercooked, and some just right. Unfortunately this visit was for my boyfriends bday and his first visit and he requested we not go back.

Dropped in for drinks and stayed for dinner on 10/25. Emerald Gimlet is a must. Fun atmosphere, completely unexpected. Food was very good. Loved the spaghettini and broccolini were terrific so if you are vegetarian you will love it! Funniest scene is the ladies room were you can sample a drink--a first for me. In any case if you want good food, drink and a fun atmosphere go!

I made a reservation here after a recommendation from a friend, and the experience completely blew my expectations away. The ambiance was so sultry and exciting. The menu was creative and the food was absolutely amazing. The service was impeccable and overall made for an amazing experience. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a true "New York" dining experience for an enjoyable and affordable evening.

Waited over an hour from our reservation time to be seated. Once seated the music was so loud that we could not hear each other speaking (short of yelling across the table) & air con was so cold we had to request our coats back! Food nothing to write home about & quite overpriced for the quality. Would not recommend & will not be returning.

This place is trendy and can be fun. Just know that with reservations and an on-time arrival for check-in, you will still wait no less than an hour to be seated. For a place to be this expensive and swanky, you would think they know how to adhere to a more strict reservation timetable. Standing in heels for an hour for your table is not fun. And forget about trying to sit at the bar for a drink when 80 other people are also there waiting on their table!

This is a place to go so you can say you've been to one of the hippest places in NY, and to try a good hand-crafted cocktail. However, if you're looking forward to a fantastic meal, don't hold your breath! The best thing we tried was the Marrow. Delicious! We found the rest of the food to be underwhelming, and bland; either lacking spice or salt. I would recommend going for a cocktail then heading to one of the many LES gems.

The ambiance, vibe and design of the restaurant impeccable; the menu is creative and had nuance - we certainly savored every bite of each the four small sharing plates; and the service and attention to detail of every employee was amazing. While the food and wine were excellent, our server seemed a bit over eager. He came over about 5 times before we even ordered our food. The lighting is also quite dark. I am 26 and felt like I had very aging eyes when I was trying to read the menu. At the table next to us a middle aged couple even commented that it made them feel a little better knowing that it wasn't just them that needed to break out the light on their phone to read the menu. The new male bartender was very friendly, and greeted everyone with a handshake, which took me a bit off guard but I appreciated that he was trying to be friendly and just make everyone feel comfortable. The hostesses looked as if they could not care less about their job, which was upsetting.

Went to Beauty and Essex for brunch, but have also been for dinner. Brunch was definitely less lively, even less lively than I had thought it would be. The service was good and wanted for nothing. It was a little quiet when we sat down for the first seating at 11:45 but by the time we were done it was more than half full. The food was good but I definitely think Chris Santos' other place Stanton Social is better after eating a few times at each. It is particularly noticeable in the tomato soup dumplings at Beauty and Essex vs the french onion soup dumplings at Stanton Social.

Although I love the ambience and food, I will probably never come back here. Upon arrival and checking in, the hostess insisted that my name was not on the reservation. I spelled out my name for her and she still insisted that it was not on the list. When I talked to another hostess, she easily found it, but said it would be a while to set up such a large table (what was the point of a reservation then?) By the time the table was ready, it was past midnight. When leaving, the girl manning the coat check couldn't find one of my friends jackets. She tried telling us that we never gave her the jacket that was missing. We asked her to look around, but she didn't even TRY. My friend then walked in to the closet and saw the jacket on the floor.

This was my third visit, and I won't be back for awhile. When we arrived with our party of 4, we approached the hostess stand and stood there for several minutes before being acknowledged. We then went to the bar area to grab a drink while our table was being prepared, and it was so crowded we had to move near the entrance to wait. We were then told we could not stand there, so we tried to go back into the bar and grabbed a side table. The cocktail waitress came over and said the tables were for ordering food or drinks, and we could not sit there. We then witnessed the same thing happen to at least 4 other groups of people. Everything was great once we were seated, but there are plenty of amazing NYC restaurants we'd rather go to.

The food and our waiter at Beauty and Essex made up for our hour wait after having a reservation this past Saturday night. I understand restaurants can get backed up, but to wait an hour is ridiculous. I'm not sure if that's part of the allure of B&E, but certainly not my speed. Once we were eventually sat, we got a table right outside of the bar area instead of the main dining room which was also a disappointment. However, everything we ate - bone marrow, tuna, lobster tacos and grilled cheese bites were spectacular. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating to make the rest of our time at B&E enjoyable.

My boyfriend and I went for brunch for his 26th birthday and we are so happy we did! We've wanted to come for a while and the restaurant was just as awesome as we hoped it would be. The food was innovative and tasted very good, and the portions were perfect. I definitely recommend the bacon and tomato soup dumplings - so good! The ambiance was trendy and beautiful (yet romantic) and our waitress was very sweet as well. Also loved that it was located beyond a functioning pawn shop. A definite must!
