A word from Beatrix
Beatrix is a neighborhood restaurant, coffeehouse and meeting place located in Chicago’s River North. Our chef partners Susan Weaver, Rita Dever and John Chiakulas have created a menu inspired by food made in Lettuce’s test kitchen.

Beatrix is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night offerings.

All pastries, breads and sweets are baked in house daily. Some of our favorites include Seeded Rye English Muffins, Honey Butter Cinnamon Buns and Thin & Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies. Our coffee and tea program will showcase two iconic Chicago roasters, Intelligensia and Metropolis.

A fabulous meal! They get everything right. Everything on the menu looks enticing and the selections we made (kale salad, pot roast and cherry chocolate pound cake) were delicious. Great vibe - funky but warm. A professional and engaging server completed a wonderful meal. Hope to return repeatedly to sample everything else on the menu.

We have been to Chicago many times but this was our first visit to Beatrix. The food was fantastic, atmosphere buzzing and staff efficient and friendly. Whilst we found restaurant prices in general had risen a lot we thought our evening great value. In fact we enjoyed Saturday night so much we went back for Sunday brunch and enjoyed that equally. We have friends visiting Chicago next year and will definitely tell them to call.

Food was good. Noisy but not too bad for conversation. Waiter had an attitude and made the experience less than what it could have been. Won't be back. Too many other good places out there to put up with bad service.

Beatrix was a real surprise for me because the last time I happened to be in the same location, there was a parking lot. Quite a fun spot with a wonderful ambiance and very friendly. Not enough restaurants offer great mochas and a bakery to die for...... Delicious food, fabulous service, and noise level was not too crazy. Would highly recommend Beatrix as the place to go for a fun night out!

Beatrix is a good place for dinner. Food was good...not outstanding or memorable though. Very casual atmosphere...plenty of open tables. Service was good. Valet parking is WAY overpriced at $14 (have to get ticket validated). Overall, pleasant dining experience.

Absolutely perfect brunch. Great size portions, moderate prices, incredibly good food! Recommend the pancakes, they're almost like crepes. The fresh juices are fantastic and well worth the cost. There are so many choices in the city, now this one has become a favorite. We have returned for breakfast/brunch several times and each visit has been great. We even had our same server who remembered us - Milos! His suggestions, explanations and passion for the food and beverages has always been right and has helped us try some new things - Bulletproof Coffee and Chia pudding most recently. Sitting by the open windows to the street on a beautiful morning completed the dining experience. There is a great vibe in the place as well which is connected to the Aloft Hotel.

My husband and I went to Beatrix as part of our in-town "babymoon". The food is a great variation on American bistro with lots of delicious options. The environment was hip but not pretentious and service was great. I am trying to avoid sugar as I am borderline for gestational diabetes - our waiter and the bartender were able to accommodate my needs by altering a cucumber and mint soda to have less sugar (no added cordial) and the result was still delicious. Thanks for helping us have a great night out, Beatrix!

We love Beatrix and eat there often. On a few occasions I have had the "family table" item that is served Buffett style, the chicken chiliquiles. After having the other day tho I wish they would just add to the menu as the way they serve in a chaffing dish is not good, it doesn't hold and gets soggy so I always regret getting them. They don't fit with the caliber of the rest of the menu, nowhere close.

I love this place! I take anyone visiting here and I ALWAYS try and make my friends from here that have not been go. This place is right off the hotel and its so adorable inside with great lighting and the food is even better. Every waitress I have had has been so helpful and sweet. They train their staff well. I have many staples but the A's Salad to start is SO fresh and light, Quinoa cakes are delicious as well. Also some other favorites are the steak, short ribs, Chocolate salmon, neat turkey loaf and if you're gonna get desert you HAVE HAVE HAAAAVE to have the caramel pie. TO DIE FOR. Amazing date spot, but also great for big groups of friends!

We were both working in the city Friday and were looking for a new casual place to try with healthy menu options. Beatrix was perfect. We went at 5:30 on a Friday. We had made a reservation but would have had no problems getting a table at that time. Our server knew the menu and helped us make our choices. The Ceasar salad with yogurt based dressing was great. Highly recommend the Neatloaf which was made from ground turkey and sweet potatoes and served with braised kale and mashed potatoes and a vegetable broth based gravy. For dessert we simply picked the chocolate chip coffee cake from the pastry display and it was wonderful. Good coffee. We can't wait to go back for a Sunday brunch.

So far, my seven experiences at Beatrix have all been exceptional. The food is beautifully presented and always fresh & delicious. The menu selections are diverse enough to satisfy every palate. The service is quick, gracious and efficient. I can recommend pretty much every thing on the menu as I have tasted most of the dishes. The dessert selection on the menu is amazing but don't forget to pick up a cookie, muffin, scone or freshly made granola on your way out. If you want a great meal at a reasonable price, you really cannot do any better than Beatrix. I know, I've eaten there 7 times in the past year.

I come here all the time for Beatrix's baked goods and I am never disappointed, always more than satisfied! However, I was sad about my dinner experience here... while the drinks were great, the dinner dishes were not very impressive; they simply didn't meet my expectations, considering how much I love their pastry bar and breakfast/lunch dishes. Then, when we went to the pastry bar for dessert, our waitress took our drinks and we weren't even closed to finishing them -- it just felt like she was ready for us to leave and we had only been there for no more than an hour. Also, the dog treats get moldy if not eaten in two days :( I won't be coming back for dinner or dog treats, but I'll be at the pastry bar, most likely tomorrow!

On a recent visit to Chicago, we were seeking a healthier breakfast/brunch alternative. The reviews on Beatrix led us to book a table. First off, we were delighted with the freshly prepared juices: acai/pomegranite, a green blend, and so forth. The bakery offered gorgeous and tasty muffins and other goods--some made gluten-free and with honey and agave as sweeteners. I loved the organic vanilla yogurt with fresh berries and my husband was thrilled with the lemon/berry pancakes absolutely to die for. We went back the next day before leaving. Service was perfect from the hostess to the two servers each day. Wish we had such a place in our hometown!

My boyfriend and I dined here last Saturday night for the first time. I loved the vibe, the energy, decoration and the service was outstanding. The only downfall was that the food was just ok to me. I was expecting to be blown away, and it isn't bad by any means, just not as great as we were hoping. The salads were a generous portion, I had the brioche branzino, he had the potroast - not bad but not as great as I was anticipating. I'd go back to try the brunch.

We came here after dinner, just for desserts. I ordered the caramel pie which was really good, with a nice crust of thick & crisp shortbread. Good portion size - I didn't share it, but I certainly could have. Probably should have. A couple of people in my party ordered the blueberry slab pie and they also raved about it, complimenting the crust again.

This was my 4th time coming here and again the food is just amazing! We had the humus to start and it was perfectly made. I tried the mushroom quinoa burger, mouth watering! It was light, but filling perfect for a summer afternoon. The fries that came with it were one of the best fries I have had as well, but the next time I might substitute with the arugula salad (which the waiter said is the same base they use for their straight A salad, my favorite). I still need to go for brunch, I hear it is fantastic.

We try to visit vegetarian restaurants when we travel. We found Beatrix to be ok but not great. Appetizers were fair but, by and large, we found all of the food to be underseasoned. Best bet is the pasta with "chicken" and a nice sauce. Visually the plates are lovely but there is more out there to use other than tofu and seitan to create vegetarian meals.
