A word from Beatrix
Beatrix is a neighborhood restaurant, coffeehouse and meeting place located in Chicago’s River North. Our chef partners Susan Weaver, Rita Dever and John Chiakulas have created a menu inspired by food made in Lettuce’s test kitchen.

Beatrix is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night offerings.

All pastries, breads and sweets are baked in house daily. Some of our favorites include Seeded Rye English Muffins, Honey Butter Cinnamon Buns and Thin & Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies. Our coffee and tea program will showcase two iconic Chicago roasters, Intelligensia and Metropolis.

  • "We went for dinner, and the restaurant itself is a bit awkward for a night spot; the ceilings are too high for the lighting, perhaps? It feels a little warehouse-y and not in a good way. We were seated by the bar and the music was also a bit loud. But the food was good, and when the kitchen ended up being out of the halibut that the waiter recommended to me, the manager not only came over to check on my replacement order (the pot roast), he comped it, as well! I was impressed, as that's never actually happened to me before. The pot roast itself was delicious, and my dining companions enjoyed their orders of the chocolate-chili salmon and the skirt steak, as well. I might go back for dinner, but I would love to check out their brunch. "

  • "With the time I have for break at work, Beatrix is full of friendly, quick, and approachable employees. The food is fantastic, for lack of a better word at the moment, and the service is incredible. I have yet to find another restaurant that leaves an impression as Beatrix does. Additionally, the ambience at the location is beautiful. I have definitely found my regular lunch spot."

  • "I've worked in the service industry for 7 years and have always had the motto the customer gets what the customer wants. I also know a thing or two about server sections/rotation. With that being said we were sat at the farthest table from the restaurant, basically in the hotel lobby. The hotel doors kept opening and I was very cold. It also smelled like a hotel where we were sitting so I lost my appetite. There was the perfect table across from us by the window and it was empty for 10-15 minutes. I kept trying to get my server's attention but to no avail. Finally I got her and asked if we could move. She downright denied me stating that it was in a separate section and basically it would cause her extra work/issues. I was dumbfounded."

  • "Went to Beatrix to celebrate our anniversary. We had received a gift card for the Lettuce Entertain You network, and this restaurant was on the list. What an EXCELLENT choice!!! Starting from the location, very hip, nice and modern deco, and the waitress was very nice and friendly. The food was great, very nice selection on soft drinks, that is, not only pop, but several combination of natural fruit drinks. Gluten-free options as well, if needed. We MUST return. Perfect experience... Oh, and dessert... heaven on earth!!!"

  • "Good neighborhood spot. Service was a nice mix of friendly but professional and everything we tried was good(deviled eggs, arugula and pear salad, turkey meatloaf, drinks). Ambiance is a somewhat strange mix of hotel coffee shop and trendy, and the noise level was surprisingly loud for a place that wasn't super crowded (not helped by a table of shrieking young women, bachelorette party?). Still, would return for the good food at moderate prices."

  • "Beatrix has become our favorite family restaurant. We always start with one of their fresh squeezed juices or cocktails, and then move on to one of their original salads. We love the original combinations of new (to us) ingredients, which are fresh and bursting with flavor. Service is speedy, knowledgeable and friendly, and the menu changes regularly. A real treat!"

  • "I returned for another dinner. Cocktail list is creative. I tried the vodka melon drink which is ok, although nothing to fall in love with. Size of plates varies immensely. Last time our dishes were large (meatloaf, fish). This time I had salad w/ chicken & grains. Always a relief to find something on a restaurant menu that makes you feel healthy, and still sounds tasty. It was a large portion so I couldn't finish it all. But some of the guys ordered entress that didn't leave them full, the chicken & especially the Ahi. Ahi should be moved to the appetizer section. The waiter said it was on the smaller side - so thankfully fries were ordered as a side. But it is the size of the beet appetizer."

  • "I went there with a group of three girls for dinner. We ordered the pork shank, meatloaf, and pot roast. All three were very good. The cocktails were amazing as well- I especially liked the Vodka Dew. We had the caramel pie for dessert which should not be missed. Service was good, everything was good. I'll be back."

  • "After wanting to go here for months I finally had an opportunity to take a client and expense it. I can't wait to come back on my own dime!!! The food here was wonderful. It was comfort food taken to the next level. After the lunch everyone could not stop raving about the food. The waitress was very mindful of our space and was not too push to keep us moving which I loved. You have to try the tomato soup it is out of this world!!! The straight A salad with salmon was delicious, maybe a little too much dressing, but I made do, because the flavors were great. Others at the table got the pot roast sandwich and the salmon dish (wish turns into salmon tacos, I was told they were out of this world). Can't wait to come back!!!"

  • "Great space, terrific menu. Not the place to look for a quiet, intimate dining experience -- Beatrix has lots of energy to go with the food. Menu is unique without being outrageous. The salmon with chocolate-chili sauce was perfect, as was the truffled pasta with egg (for dinner!). The slice of chocolate cake was enough for 4 and is great, but I'm not a fan of the chia custard. Everyone will find something great to eat here. They also know how to deal with gluten and other food allergies without fuss."

  • "Our first visit to Beatrix and we enjoyed it very much. The menu is inventive and well thought out, the service was spot on and it was a vibrant, eclectic atmosphere. The people watching was fun! We enjoyed a lovely lunch and will certainly be returning soon for lunch and hopefully also to try the dinner menu. Prices are reasonable and the open loft style feels young and fresh. Great choice, you will not be disappointed."

  • "This was my second time at Beatrix and I will have to say my service was not very good - very disconnected. Server not very inviting or interested. it seemed like our table mihgt have been between two sections and no one knew who was supposed to take our order. Food was great and I'll be back. this time I was with a business client so it was a bit embarrassing since I had talked so highly of Beatrix. Hope this helps."

  • "I read the good reviews of Beatrix and decided to give it a try for lunch. I was impressed with the menu---lots of unique choices--not boring in the the least. We split the hummus appetizer--very good---the 3 grain arugula salad---excellent and the prime burger. The french fries were really good--crunchy, tasty and not greasy. I would definitely return (to try some of the other choices) and recommend this restaurant."

  • "The food was delicious and the pricing extremely reasonable. I had a fabulous turkey burger. My colleagues enjoyed the quinoa and mushroom burger (delicious fries), and a tasty salad special. The mood was energetic, but quiet enough to enjoy a conversation easily. This is also a great restaurant for those with allergies, especially gluten allergies."

  • "I visited Chicago with 12 friends and we hit up Beatrix on a recommendation from someone who lives in the city. We loved everything about it. Every single one of us loved what we ordered and the mimosas were out of this world. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we went back for brunch the next day before we headed home. The enchilladas with egg, kale and tomatillo sauce were incredible, as were the lemon pancakes. I'm not sure you could go wrong with anything from the menu. Plus, our servers were friendly and on top of it."

I had a a kale-pineapple juice with an egg white omelette while my friend enjoyed lemon pancakes. Don't expect large portion sizes. If you're looking for a big brunch, this is not the place to go."

  • "We were late for our reservation and then crunched for time to make it to a show. The server and kitchen both did amazing job of accommodating us - the food came out super fast. I had the neatloaf which was fabulous. Husband had the burger and fries which he raved about as well. We really enjoyed the ambiance. The menu isn't huge, but seems to be extremely well executed which I'd prefer honestly. After a not great service experience at a different LEYE restaurant in the fall, I was thrilled to have such wonderful attention at Beatrix. I would definitely dine here again when the opportunity arises."

  • "I really like everything I've chosen here so far. I've now been for both brunch and dinner. The quinoa cakes are outstanding. I keep threatening to make them, but I'm afraid they won't come out as good as they make them here. We also had their pasta and egg dish, and that too was really interesting. The portions aren't huge, but you get what you pay for in quality. This place is in the Aloft hotel, open off their lobby. Because of this and the fact they're in the tourist containment zone, they tend to get a lot of tourists. Don't let that deter you. You're going to get a really good meal here. The wine list is nicely priced for the area, although I find the cocktails on the small side. Part of the Lettuce Entertain You empire."
