A word from Beatrix
Beatrix is a neighborhood restaurant, coffeehouse and meeting place located in Chicago’s River North. Our chef partners Susan Weaver, Rita Dever and John Chiakulas have created a menu inspired by food made in Lettuce’s test kitchen.

Beatrix is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night offerings.

All pastries, breads and sweets are baked in house daily. Some of our favorites include Seeded Rye English Muffins, Honey Butter Cinnamon Buns and Thin & Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies. Our coffee and tea program will showcase two iconic Chicago roasters, Intelligensia and Metropolis.

The pot roast sandwich is DELICIOUS!!! Every time I try and go I tell myself to get something new, but it's so delectable that I can't steer away! The meat is perfectly cooked, the bun complements it perfectly, and the sauce on the side and the watercress inside are absolutely perfect - highly recommend this dish to anyone who is a first timer.

The food at this place is fantastic . I can recommend the potato salad deviled eggs, the apple and squash soup , the short ribs, the branzino , the incredible desserts ( apple tart , caramel pie) but the wait time between drinks , appetizers , entrees , and dessert is just too long . We wondered if our waiter had left , inspite of his charm when he was at our table. It's such a fun place with extremely high quality , tasty and appealing food but the slowness is a major issue.

The food was okay but not great. We sent the french fries back because they were under done. They came back a little too dark. I got the wrong salad. There are two arugula salads. He did not clarify which salad. They fixed both problems and took them off the bill, without us asking, and the waiter was pleasant. My pasta wasn't anything special. it tasted like bag pasta I could make at home. Service was slow and a little off. Good atmosphere. Maybe breakfast or lunch would be a better option next time.

While the drinks and bottle if wine met our expectations, other than coffee bar treats we took home for breakfast the next day, our dinner was bland and left so much to be desired. Of all the amazing places in Chicago, and the prime real estate of this location, I'm really surprised! Take the food of another great place, add it to this ambiance and service and you've got 5 stars... until then, I definitely prefer somewhere else.

Found Beatrix by googling "top restaurants of Chicago". And it's no surprise why Beatrix is on the list! Delicious food and a number of options for the gluten-free diner. The ahi tuna app and hummus were big hits. The salmon and the pork shank are must-try's. Nice wine list & cocktail options. Fun vibe, great service. We will definitely go back next time we're in town. Reservations recommended.

We really enjoyed the vegetarian options, especially cauliflower milanese. But the service was inattentive. Food delivered without any explanations. Entrees brought without salad plates having been cleared. Water left unpoured... Too bad, 'cause I'd love to go back for that cauliflower...

We ordered 6 out of the 7 apps on the menu. The quinoa patties and the potato salad deviled eggs were wonderful. The beets were good, but I wouldn't order them again. The fries were ok but nothing special and the chicken meatballs had great flavor but didn't stand out as opposed to the quinoa and eggs. This place is also good if you have vegetarians or gluten free people in the party. They have non-traditional veggie items and a good selection of gluten free. The O My! Caramel Pie is apptly named. Best ever!!

Brought a group of six to the restaurant for lunch. None had been there prior. Our service was great, and lunch came quickly which was good, Our view was the kitchen as we were in the back corner. I was not impressed with the food overall, the menu made the food seem much more than it was. My cobb salad, a bit bland and pricy for what I received. Not a place I would visit again.

We were on a short visit to Chicago but wanted a special dinner (belated birthday) so made reservations at Beatrix. The ambiance wasn't as upscale as perhaps I'd expected (no tablecloths, tvs visible in the bar, music noticeable) but it was a nice energy and wow, the food was delicious. We shared the hummus & naan appetizer and the amazing 5 A's salad. My husband had the burger, somewhat sheepishly - but it's what he was craving, and he thought it was great. I had the parmesan-crusted chicken - not something I usually order, but was in the mood for something rich, and the mashed potatoes I ordered extra as a side were the perfect accompaniment. They then gave me a beautiful piece of chocolate cake with a candle for my birthday, gratis!

We came across this restaurant when we arrived in Chicago early in the morning. The juices were just what we needed to get re-hydrated! I got orange/mango/pineapple and my companion got blueberry rosemary. They were terrific! Our meals were delicious; the menu featured many healthful and tasty options. The service was outstanding! Our waiter was cheerful and accommodating. The featured latte was a bit sweet for my taste- I prefer a plain latte, but overall everything was terrific!

Lettuce Entertain You really dropped the ball on this restaurant. If you want food, covered in a sugary sweet syrup, then this is the place for you. From the cocktails to the mushy chicken meatballs to the pork shank, everything seemed to be covered in sugar. The only item that wasn't, was the salmon that I had to send back because it was served practically raw. The second try proved edible and actually was quite tasty. Even so, the menu description of the salmon dish stated it was accompanied by a smoked almond slaw, sounds good doesn't it? However, the slaw had no smoke flavor to speak of ... I really wish menu writers would be more careful when describing a dish. Pass on this place... Your not missing a thing.

Beatrix exceeded expectations on all fronts - from the cool decor and ambiance to the great service to the amazing food. We started with the quinoa cakes and kale salad, both of which were delicious and unique. I am not one to order pork very often, but the pork shank with peaches was one of the best entrees I've had this year. Seriously, try it! The waiter recommended the caramel pie, which was so rich and perfect to split with a group alongside the chocolate cake. I would go back in a heartbeat!

This was my first time visiting Beatrix. I went for lunch with some friends. We tried the stuffed peppers and mushroom quinoa burger. I would highly recommend either of these dishes. The burger didn't fall apart and was not overly "mushroomy". Great combination of flavors in the stuffed peppers. For the three of us, sharing these two dishes was perfect. The service was good -- attentive but we didn't feel rushed.

I've been walking by Beatrix forever so finally made lunch plans. I loved it. It was as cute inside as it is outside. Our waiter was pleasant, told him we had to be in and out in an hour, and he made sure we had our order quickly and he checked on us just enough. I had assumed it would be over-the-top expensive but the lunch menu is pretty reasonable. The menu also was interesting and portions generous (also loved their reusable take-home containers and bags). I had this great arugula, almond salad with salmon, and my friend had a quinoa burger and fries (vegetarian friendly). The noise level was probably the only drawback--the music was maybe a bit too loud for the lunch crowd. Looking forward to checking out the coffee bar in the AM.
