A word from Beatrix
Beatrix is a neighborhood restaurant, coffeehouse and meeting place located in Chicago’s River North. Our chef partners Susan Weaver, Rita Dever and John Chiakulas have created a menu inspired by food made in Lettuce’s test kitchen.

Beatrix is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night offerings.

All pastries, breads and sweets are baked in house daily. Some of our favorites include Seeded Rye English Muffins, Honey Butter Cinnamon Buns and Thin & Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies. Our coffee and tea program will showcase two iconic Chicago roasters, Intelligensia and Metropolis.

  • "Fun menu. Ambience was good on a summer night with the windows open. Try the Turkey "Neat Loaf" and the craft beers. Wine list is "meh.""

  • "This is my second time eating at Beatrix. The food is delicious (lemon pancakes, spicy chicken tinga and green chile quiche, yum!). We had the same server both times outside and he is wonderful. Attentive, knowledgeable and pleasant to chat with! Beatrix baked sweets are also incredible. Take some to go!"

  • "Great spot that's easy on the eyes. Huge fan of the brunch, I wish it was every day and not just the weekends. Blueberry mimosas are a must-have!"

  • "I really enjoyed Beatrix, I loved the decor and ambiance. The windows were open which created a nice airy atmosphere. We had a rose wine which was delicious, as were all of our appetizers, main entrees, and desserts. The service was very slow though, which was surprising for a Sunday night because the restaurant was not crowded at all."

  • "Food is interesting and good quality, location very convenient and reasonable parking for River North. But just trying to get seated (was five minutes early for reservation) was a problem, water and drink order took forever, food took another forever. Server was friendly and apologetic, but almost two hours for brunch too long for me."

  • "This was my first trip to Beatrix. Our waitress was excellent with recommendations. Drinks were delicious, One person had wine, 2 of us had spiked juices, and the other person had a sidecar. Appetizers, which were recommended by our waitress, were phenomenal. We had the meatballs and tuna. Meatballs were delicious and our favorite. Of the 4 dishes, pork shank, fish, pot roast, and steak, the pork shank was by far the best. I was highly disappointed with the pot roast, which was my dish. It tasted as if an entire salt shaker was spilled into the dish while cooking. EVERYTHING on the plate was way over salted. We were surprised with complimentary birthday cake/pie, which was a nice touch. I will give this restaurant another try."

  • "This went downhill from the moment we arrived. The hostess was quite rude, telling us she'd only give us a menu for brunch or dinner and we had to choose. We didn't know what we wanted so we chose one. A nicer hostess later Came over and gave us both menus. Unfortunately we chose dinner. The quinoa cakes are nice but for what you get it ain't worth it. Measly portion size for something as cheap as quinoa. Then came the pasta and egg entree. This was the worst dish I've ever eaten. Not that it was poorly cooked mind you - this is a poorly conceptualizer and poorly explained dish. I thought it would be a bowl of creamy cheesy pasta. It was an oil slick of one strip of pasta covered by another. Not going back."

  • "2nd time here, fabulous as before. Great fresh food, impeccable and friendly service. What customer service and dining out should be in Chicago. Plus, very reasonable prices."

  • "Pot roast utterly delicious. Our 2 desserts: chocolate cake and apple studel were great. Our server was very well informed and adorable without a hint of condescension when I asked the difference between and Manhattan and an Old Fashioned."

  • "Beatrix is fabulous. Our waitress was wonderful and very informative about menu items, along with providing her favorites. I appreciate my friend introducing me to Beatrix, and I'm looking forward to my chance to do the same. I can see my newcomer status becoming Regular Status. The Chili Chocolate Glazed Salmon and the Chocolate Cherry pound cake **out of this world** the best."

  • "A friend suggested we try Beatrix for a great dinner, (without a long wait!) and it definitely lived up to the hype. Great food, great ambience, an attentive hostess and waiter, and an unbelievable caramel pie to top it off. Can't wait to get back to Beatrix"

  • "One can have three meals per day there as well as stop in and and enjoy wonderful pastries to go. All sorts of interesting seating and open air along windows. Food is absolutely delicious; however wines are a bit pricey. An eclectic crowd tends to dine there - I highly recommend trying."

  • "I love everything about this place, especially for lunch and dinner. Delicious, healthy menu, friendly staff, and casual and trendy atmosphere. We celebrated our anniversary here for brunch, and the manager and server could not have been more kind. Definitely going back again and again!"

  • "Went here for brunch last Sunday and had a very enjoyable meal. The lemon pancakes, made with ricotta, are light and delectable. The brown sugar bacon is also delicious."

  • "First time having dinner at Beatrix. Started with the tsukune that had a great light meatball texture with a good amount of sweetness to it. My date had the carmelized pork shank and I had the special salmon dinner. The salmon was good with a nice marinate served over rice with some green vegetables. There was a slight hint of licorce and so I asked the waiter what it was. Impressively he knew that they frequently used fennell in those types of dishes. The pork shank?? Incredible. If I have the pleasure of going there again, I would have the pork shank. Overall, very good, with very good service."

  • "Tables inside by "open doors" have the benefits of indoor without the negatives of outdoor in a busy night neighborhood. Drink list is interesting - 2 small bars. Dinner menu a bit limited, but the special (wild salmon) was excellent. Go for ambiance, if you are hungry go across the street to Magianno's."

  • "We've been to Beatrix a number of times, for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The food is healthy and interesting, and atmosphere is upbeat and humming. I am so appreciative of the fact that they have a gluten free menu with a good number of choices. The staff is very helpful in navigating what I can safely eat, making for an enjoyable night out."

  • "Decent Kale salad for a start. But it was followed by soggy chicken drowning in a puddle of thick, gelatinous tasteless sauce. The meatloaf also was bland and drenched with sauce. Lettuce really misses the boat with this one. There are too many good bar-food restaurants in the area to bother trying this one."

  • "My husband and I went here for an early dinner before going to a show and were pleasantly surprised by delicious food, great service and a great spot for people watching as we ate our dinner! The dinner was amazing...we started with the Straight "A" salad to share...plenty for two! A delicious combination of arugula, avocado. Asian pear, Marconi almonds and asiago cheese...then the main course! I had the pork shank with peaches...to die for!!! My husband had the pot roast with kale, pearl onions and puréed cauliflower...outstanding! We had no room for dessert...next time will go for dessert only!!! We brought home a homemade chocolate chip cookie...delicious...can't wait to try more! Definitely will go back!!!"

  • "I met my daughter here for lunch, I had the chopped salad with salmon, she had the pot-roast sandwich. She had a different summer cocktail, I had ice tea. I had made reservations for 4PM but we arrived early, no problem with seating. Nice bar area, clean. Service was great, food was great."

  • "We went to lunch at Beatrix last week. The service and food were outstanding! I was with 3 others and we were all very impressed. The sockeye salmon special is outstanding. I really hope they make it a part of the regular menu. I'm hooked! Then we had some Bulletproof coffee for "dessert". WOW! I have a feeling I'll be going back just for that. Amazing all around."

  • "Food was delicious. Ambiance was great. Windows were open so had the outside feel even though you were inside. There is an option to sit outside. Service was great. Server knew exactly what was in the menu and the attention was great. She even recognized that someone in our group wanted the gluten free menu and made recommendations from that."

  • "This was our first visit to Beatrix. We had a reservation for Saturday night for four and were seated promptly. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable and managed just the right balance between being attentive but not intrusive. Restaurant had some interesting interior design solutions, but was a little bit too noisy. Unfortunately, food choices lacked in flavor and presentation. Warm quinoa cakes and tsukune were Ok. Pot roast was good, but both the salmon special and branzino were too thinly sliced and dry. Cauliflower Milanese was so hard that I had difficulties cutting through it. Altogether, food was rather unmemorable. I can't say anything about lunch and brunch menus but I don’t think we’ll be coming back soon for dinner."
