A word from Beat Hotel
Beat Hôtel is an American brasserie and bar located in the heart of Harvard Square. Inspired by the hippie and beat movements of the mid-twentieth century, we cater to all walks of life. Our mission is to satisfy the local community as well as vagabonds passing through.

With an always fresh, seasonal, and wholesome menu, enjoyable for carnivores and vegetarians alike, our dishes draw influence and flavors from around the world. Our bar celebrates American spirits and American artisanal wines crafted by small batch winemakers with heart and soul.

To heighten the senses further, we feature daily live music by cutting edge musicians in jazz, blues and world music, bringing eclectic artistry to our stage in Cambridge.

  • "$140 dinner for 2 with 2 glasses of wine... food was good; scallops were delicious. Cauliflower appetizer unique, spicy & good"

  • "Great mahi mahi taco. Bartender was sweet and attentive. Great jazz trip playing. not too loud."

  • "We went for a live music event and the music and food were outstanding. The servers were notably accommodating and friendly."

  • "interesting cocktails, fresh food and fun decor. the ambiance and live music is a nice touch and adds to the mood and vibe of the place. definitely one of the better places to grab a bite and cocktail in harvard square."

  • "Everyone raves about Beat Hotel and Beehive, but I think both restaurants are overrated. I had pancakes, which were good expensive at $14 with no sides. My friend had a hamburger and the meat was not fresh. Other friend had turkey hash, which lacked flavor. Finally cappuccino cost $4.50 for a 4 ounces cup. I had to ask several times for a refill on water and search for the waiter."

  • "Food is good and staff is totally on the ball. Great service! Band was great too, Ricky king Russell. Only thing that could make this better is if there were room to dance"

  • "Dinner was different and very tasty. Great bar scene and the live music was fabulous. Excellent and attentive service. Fun night out."

  • "A perfect Saturday evening out. Took my husband and teenaged son for their first outing (my second). Service was right on as were all of our food items. We never felt rushed and we tried different dishes. The music was pleasant in the background and you had no problem hearing your conversation at the table. All of us look to go back again soon. Give it a try too!"

  • "From being greeted at the street level and having the staff downstairs already waiting for us to the eclectic/romantic vibe and live music, Beat Hotel "wowed" me. I can not be more pleased with my experience. Making reservations probably helped a ton, since the restaurant quickly picked up speed around 8PM. The noise level was moderate, just enough music to whisk you away into your evening, but not too much that you can't have a conversation. The environment and decor was phenomenal - probably one of my favorite parts. Also, for being a high end restaurant, the food portions were decent and I was pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff was attentive and prompt. This is a must go if you are in the Boston/Cambridge area - dinner or just drinks!"

  • "We came with some friends from out of town to show them this restaurant with live music. They were very impressed and the food and service will keep it as one of our go to spots in Harvard Square."

  • "Anxious to try a new restaurant, we saw a review of "the beat" on Phantom Gourmet. They were spot on regarding the ambiance and food...fabulous! The staff was friendly and very accomidating. We accidentally left our credit card there, and they found my cell phone number via our "open table" reservation and called us right away. Had a wonderful experience and will be back."

  • "We went for the music but stayed for dinner. I grew up right down the road from Harvard Square, but this was a new experience. I assume this restaurant is relatively new. What a wonderful find. The place was completely packed on a Wednesday night to include the restaurant and bar. The music was outstanding and the food was good too. The appetizers were excellent accompanied by a nice selection of wine and local beer. A fun place. Greek music played while we dined near the stage. How great!! Next time please turn up the volume on the Bouzouki! Highly recommend!"
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "The sound system and acoustics are top-shelf. The use of repeating loudspeakers creates an even sound level throughout the venue. On Wednesday the sound technician had some difficulties with the Greek instruments possibly due to unfamiliarity."

  • "This was my second time at this restaurant, and the service was completely different (I think it was just our waitress). The first 1/3 of the dining experience, our waitress was attentive and good. After appetizers, we did not see the waitress until we had asked two other waitress's and the hostess for our check. We had a birthday in our group and told the hostess before we sat down to do something for it. She made a call (assume it was to the kitchen) and said it was all set. Nothing materialized in the front. The bus staff was actually quite good however. The "Greek Beat" menu consisted of 4 additional items. Two of which were straight off of the normal menu. Hardly impressive. A proffesional cameraman was in our way the entire time."

  • "One of my favorites for lots of reasons. But even when crowded, the noise level is very tolerable. And very hip, mixed crowd, at least to my eyes. The menu is great, brunch is the best"

  • "I came here with a huge party of 9 (myself included) for a friend's brithday on July 3rd. We were basically kept waiting at the bar area until everyone shows up in the party to be seated (according to the hosts, they can seat at least 6 or 7 of whoever showed up first). The layout of the restaurant is very colorful and artsy, a bit bohemian mixed in with that hipster vibe. The highlight of the dining was the live jazz music playing from the band. It was relaxing and nice to listen to. We had great service, but the food could use less salt in my opinion. I got the Mussels and Frites (great fries, but salty broth), and most of the food (except for few) were seasoned too heavy with salt. Otherwise, Beat Hotel is still worth checking out!"

  • "Awesome service, she made us laugh constantly and also made the best suggestions for food and drinks."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Like the decor, wait and bar staff friendly. Wine list expensive but disappointing. Admirable intent to include organic/sustainable wines but they are bland. If you like salt you'll like the food."

  • "Our waitress recommended the banana coffee cake with honey butter, it was out of this world! I had the short rib bene it was amazing and had the crispiest potatoes on the side. I frequently go here for drinks and brunch drinks did not disappoint. The Beat Hotel will never let you down. The jazz band was great as well!"

  • "Beat Hotel is a gem - a beautiful bohemian oasis in the strip mall that has become Harvard Square of late. The menu is fantastic - rivaling it's sister restaurant The Beehive (located in the South End of the City). Per our (fantastic) waitresses' suggestion, my friend and I tried their TO DIE FOR Banana Coffee Cake with whipped butter. SO DELICIOUS. Their cocktails are to die for, including the Violet Sky and the Bloody Mary. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and everyone had a sense of humor, which is rare in the stuffy, uptight area known at Harvard Square. Beat Hotel is fantastic for weekend brunch, post-work cocktails and a full on special dinner. Bravo!"

  • "This is a fun option for brunch in Cambridge. Our waiter was great, gave good suggestions and knows how to hold back and not interrupt the meal every 10 minutes. The live music is great, as is the food!"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "The brunch menu is unique and the food is phenomenal (banana bread with honey butter is to DIE for), but the highlight of my brunch experience was the service. We had a big group of 10 people and the servers went above and beyond to give us a great experience. Not only was our table server wonderful and timely, but the manager stopped by and - the highlight - the chef came by for a little conversation. I LOVE when chefs do this at restaurants, but it's rare and quite a treat when it happens. Finally, the atmosphere was really wonderful. Loved the decor and the soft jazz during brunch. I can tell this will become a go-to for when friends visit from out of town. I'll definitely be back!"

  • "The food and drinks are good to very good. The value is poor to very poor, drinks and food are dramatically over-priced. The place is lively. Except for the bathrooms, the decor works."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Great food and music. The service was good as well. However I was kind of disappointed how over prices the food was. It doesn't make sense that you can get a glass of wine for $4 but every enter is over $20. They seriously new to reconsider their pricing."

  • "My wife brought me to the Beat Hotel for a Fathers Day brunch. I cannot think of one negative thing to say. From the moment we entered the doors everything was perfect. Service was exceptionally good, food was delicious and the music was cool. The whole interior is a funky, fun work of art. Can't wait to go back and check out the scene at night!"

  • "We dined here last Saturday night June 14. The atmosphere has a good vibe, and the noise level is just right, not too loud. Food and cocktails are excellent. I would definitely return."

  • "Everyone at this restaurant was very attentive from the receptionist to the server to the manager to the person who cleared the table Unfortunately the food was not comparable to the service. While my spareribs were actually quite delicious, the mixed salad was mostly an incoherent pile of different vegetables with a not very interesting creamy dressing. The frites with my husband's moules frites were quite flabby and not all crispy."

  • "I've been to this restaurant on quite a few occasions and most certainly like to take people here from out of town and abroad. The service is exceptional, the food is truly delicious and very well presented. The place is always vibrant and hosts a good Band and along with the wonderful decor, it makes it an overall more than pleasant experience. The owner sometimes takes the initiative to ask the Patrons "how everything is", which shows that he cares about his restaurant and the people dining there."

  • "Beat Hotel is really cool inside!! It's worth going just for the ambiance and the live music."

  • "I've gone to the Beehive many times. They pour your glass at the bar. The bartender is friendly; knows wines. For a second glass of wine, he pours a little more. At Beat Hotel, the corporation rules. They have decided that its routine "fill" - a pre-measured carafe of wine, either half glass or full glass. So I order the full glass. What shows up is a stunted glass and he pours exactly 5 ounces! - barely rising to half the glass. What happened to 6-oz pours? Like yogurt that went from 6 oz to 5.5oz to 5.3oz!! You pay the same and get less. Here the wine was on the edge of turning bad. A second glass will be the same. I have always bristled when bars/restaurant use pre-measured amounts. Food was just okay. Space was forlorn. Not worth it."

  • "I are at the Beat Hotel for the second time this week and I liked it even better than the first. I had the Earth bowl with shrimp. It was absolutely delicious with just the right amount of spiciness on shrimp, large chunks of grilled veggies and tofu and delicious quinoa. I can stil taste it and am already looking forward to a return trip soon!"

  • "We've had several brunches at the Beehive and had been hearing good things about Beat Hotel, so recently made reservations at Beat Hotel for Sunday Brunch to celebrate a birthday. When making the reservation I stated we would be celebrating a birthday and wanted a table close to the stage and was pleased to get a table right up front. The food was outstanding. The grilled banana bread is not to be missed! Two got the Aztec Bowls with different toppers, One got the lemon pancakes which were light and amazing and I got the turkey hash with truffled scrambled eggs and a salad. There was so much food I had to bring half of it home. Everybody said the food and the music was even better than the Beehive"

  • "This was the second time my gi friend and I have dined at Beat. The first we had a similarly bad experience, but we love jazz and wanted to give it a second shot. At first the night went great. The desk had our reservation and even remembered that it was my girlfriends birthday. However as the night went on our server was pushy and crass and when a friend showed early for after dinner drinks the reaction the manager have us was totally unacceptable. 400 dollars later it will take some serious convincing to have me go back. "

  • "I went here for my birthday dinner with 7 people. Seat location was not what we asked for in the actual reservation, could barely hear or see the music. When asked the host *privately* to find another seat for us because the seat was the most uncomfortable seat ever and just a terrible location, the manager came over and announced it to the entire table (very dramatically) that there was literally nothing they were willing to do. Why exactly alert the entire group that there is nothing you can do? It was embarrassing and tactless. Not to mention the food arrived 20 minutes after she said the food would arrive. No music played during majority of dinner. The $27 duck was the smallest, most bland dish I've had anywhere. Not worth the visit. "

  • "Food was good, nice ambiance and good low-key music for dinner."

  • "Our dinner had been fantastic at Beat Hotel - we were served promptly, the food was excellent. Then several minutes after our bill had been paid, the waitress came back saying that she didn't charge us enough and could we give her more cash to cover the difference - it felt like we were being scammed. Luckily, the manager got involved to clarify that she had not processed the credit card transactions properly and everything was resolved. This could have all been avoided if she had worked with her manager separately rather than going first to her customers with the problem. I'm skeptical to go back for this reason."

  • "Celebrated a college graduation here with a party of six. Our table was ready when we arrived at this very busy establishment. Very creative menu choices. Service was very friendly and food arrived in a timely fashion. Lively, fun atmosphere with diners of all ages."
