A word from Beat Hotel (THE BEAT)
Beat Hôtel is an American brasserie and bar located in the heart of Harvard Square. Inspired by the hippie and beat movements of the mid-twentieth century, we cater to all walks of life. Our mission is to satisfy the local community as well as vagabonds passing through.

With an always fresh, seasonal, and wholesome menu, enjoyable for carnivores and vegetarians alike, our dishes draw influence and flavors from around the world. Our bar celebrates American spirits and American artisanal wines crafted by small batch winemakers with heart and soul.

To heighten the senses further, we feature daily live music by cutting edge musicians in jazz, blues and world music, bringing eclectic artistry to our stage in Cambridge.

  • "We LOVED the Beat for its atmosphere and food. It's has an eclectic decor that is funky/charming. Our waitress, Irene, was delightful and accommodated our rushed dinner before the theater. We each had a different entree and all were fabulous. Drinks and wine were delicious and the complimentary desserts yummy. We had excellent service from many of the staff who were attentive but not overly attentive!"Perfect" would describe our experience!"

  • "I was getting together with some former colleagues for dinner and one of them recommended the Beat Hotel. We all agreed and I have to say it was the perfect place for our gathering and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Not too loud, not too cold, good service, good energy, good food. Highly recommend."

  • "We enjoyed everything related to the food about the Beat Hotel. But, we had gone to listen to the music and found the noise level of the other diners interfered with our listening experience."

  • "Great fun! Great food! Great music! For our large group of ten, the service was excellent and very attentive."

  • "It's a gray experience every time--easy to seat our big group (with a reservation) immediately, good service, great food, terrific decor, and awesome ambiance. The jazz music on Sundays is always just the right volume, and we'll keep coming back!"

  • "First time we went here, everything was great. Since then, I've been back 5 times includes last night and each time was terrible. Food is lukewarm and soggy and frequently poorly prepared. Wine has been undrinkable - really awful swill each time (last night finally ordered cocktail instead which was fine). Place is too noisy - even without the live music, you have to yell to be heard and everyone at our table was hoarse by night's end. Lastly, this place is actually ignoring the "full faith and credit" clause, Article IV, Section 1 of our Constitution by denying alcohol service to MIDDLE AGE PEOPLE WITH OUT OF STATE ID! I believe this is actually ILLEGAL, according the MA FAQ page on what is acceptable proof of age to purchase alcohol..."

  • "Server was knowledgeable about the food but kept disappearing for long amounts of time. A drink was spilled and other servers needed to help us clean it up. When our waiter finally came back we asked for a replacement drink and the waiter said he "Needed to ask" if he could get us another. It took about 20 minutes to just get drinks. We got to the table at 8pm on a Friday night and music didn't play at all until 10pm. Nice food and atmosphere but I expected much better service."

  • "The live music was an extremely pleasant surprise. Of course, I like the jazz funk band that was there the night I visited. The food was great. The atmosphere was great. There were dates there as well as large groups and just pairs of friends."

  • "My wife and I had a nice date here a few nights ago, our first visit. The space is warm, the music (a jazz trio) was great, and overall we had a lovely time. The food was fine, but not quite the quality we expected given the prices. We agreed this is the kind of place you go to for the atmosphere and music. If it was just the food, that wouldn't be enough."

  • "The live jazz music added to our dining experience. We could converse while also enjoying the entertainment. The menu was varied, extensive, delicious and offered great choices for vegetarians as well as omnivores. Our party include two college students who were also enthusiastic about the restaurant. We will absolutely dine here again."

  • "service was strange, felt like they were stressed. no dessert menu is not helpful."

  • "This restaurant is trying really hard to do the "hipster, I don't give a f*ck scene" and it shows in their service. I am disappointed to say that the beat hotel and the beehive, should just stick to their bar scene and mixology. The food was meh for the price and the service was aloof including rude interaction with a server. When I decided to go with another dish, he responded "whatever, you asked" and THEN came over to, not apologize, but defend himself. We had to actually SWITCH servers in the middle of our experience. I have never felt so UNCOMFORTABLE with a server or experience ever. Go for the other options in Harvard Square."

  • "Food is good, not great. The tap wines are overpriced and at least, in the wine I had, over-aerated to such an extent that the $15.50 5 oz of wine I had was not very good. The service boarded on rude."

  • "The band is great. I had a table that was in front of the stage but towards the back and it was perfect! The music isn't so loud that you have to scream to who you're dining with. The food was phenomenal. I had the chilled corn soup which was delicious, followed by the skirt steak which I recommend-YUM! It's restaurant week so we had the 3-course meal, and for dessert I had the crepes. They were pretty good, sweet and tangy. He had the chocolate mousse, which was the only disappointing thing we had. It was 97% whipped cream with a few chocolate chips on top of the tiniest bit of chocolate mouse. IDK if they ran out & tried to make it happen or if they serve it like that all the time. Classy atmosphere but still relative to anyone. GO GO GO!"

  • "A friend recommended this place for the quality of the food and the music scene. I was not disappointed, you get both quality trendy food and live music there. 8 of us were accommodated easily and served fast. All had a very experience and left very pleased for having spent a very nice, lively evening. Happening place in an happening locale, great space. I sat in front of the stage, and did not get my ears blasted, the sound quality was very good, I could hear the lyrics sung clearly. I am back there tomorrow for there weekly band for a romantic dinner."

  • "We liked the look and taste of our food and enjoyed the jazz on the stage. They don't have a kids menu but they adapted by splitting an adult plate between two in the kitchen and filtering the pulp of the OJ."

  • " We went to the Beat Hotel on a whim, not expecting much more than a reasonable meal. We were pleasantly surprised with the food. The harvest salad was just perfect in terms of fresh ingredient and dressing. The sea scallops were delicious, albeit the portion was small (only 3 scallops). The steak was cooked to perfection. The band was playing sometimes loud, but it was great. The staff was friendly. So yeah.. will definitely go back again for some late dinner and music."

The waitpersons were happy to answer any questions and were very friendly. The decor is pleasant and warm. The food was very good. We had a very good experience."

  • "I love the Beat Hotel, especially when getting brunch. The food, coffee, drinks from the bar and live music are excellent. This past time I was there however, our server Gabriel was disappointingly rude. He very obviously only made eye contact with one of us and when addressing the table only spoke to the one person. He never asked how any of the others at the table was enjoying their meal and was very inattentive overall. all other people working there, were very friendly and engaging. I would recommend that he work on this as a server."

  • "The ambience here is fun and unique. Check out the bathrooms so fun! We were seated immediately near the jazz band. Our server was terrific. Very attentive without hovering. Music was not so loud that you could not have a conversation which was great! The Aztec bowl and the Earth bowls are fantastic. A great mix of veggies and grains, and you can add shrimp, chicken or beef or go totally vegan. Yum! I plan on going back."

  • "Felt like a NYC jazz lounge, the décor is appealing and the music acts on their calendar are the best in New England -Toni Lynn, Hopkins, Richter. Menu was a bit under-whelming, my grilled artichoke app was disappointing. A few (3) small pieces of artichoke in a red sauce - blah. Give me a whole or half artichoke for the prices. The biggest dislike was buying a glass of wine by the ounce! It's a horrible idea and a "bean counter" created that concept - not a hospitality person. the least inexpensive wine by the bottle was a white wine for $64. That's ridiculous! I'd be more than happy to consult on your wine/beverage program ;) Also, let servers know - serve from the left, remove plates from the right. Will be back for the music!"

  • "Many times have eaten at the bar but this was first time at a table at Beat Hotel. I knew from dining at Beehive that there is a lot of attention to turning tables over but management must be really intense here because with regularity drinks at the bar and food on the table gets cleared before dish/glass is empty."

  • "music is terrific. Food is fair at best. I brought a group to listen to music and eat. I called restaurant to ask about music and no one bothered to tell me that there is NO music from 8:30 to 10. My reservation was for 8:30. Very annoyed."

  • "Since Beat Hotel is the sister restaurant to Beehive, we had high expectations for the food and service. Although the music was great, the food and service were terrible. After sitting for about 15 minutes, a waitress finally came over and asked for our drink orders.. I ordered the Faroe Island Salmon Aztec Bowl, while my friend ordered the Grilled Colorado Lamb Steak. My salmon came out pink and raw..completely inedible, while my friend's well-done steak was still fairly rare. The waitress offered to "re-heat" my salmon, while my friend begrudgingly ate the steak as is. After my friend was done with her steak, the waitress finally returned with my salmon. Definitely would not come back to eat here!"

  • "Everyone raves about Beat Hotel and Beehive, but I think both restaurants are overrated. I had pancakes, which were good expensive at $14 with no sides. My friend had a hamburger and the meat was not fresh. Other friend had turkey hash, which lacked flavor. Finally cappuccino cost $4.50 for a 4 ounces cup. I had to ask several times for a refill on water and search for the waiter."
