A word from Beat Hotel
Beat Hôtel is an American brasserie and bar located in the heart of Harvard Square. Inspired by the hippie and beat movements of the mid-twentieth century, we cater to all walks of life. Our mission is to satisfy the local community as well as vagabonds passing through.

With an always fresh, seasonal, and wholesome menu, enjoyable for carnivores and vegetarians alike, our dishes draw influence and flavors from around the world. Our bar celebrates American spirits and American artisanal wines crafted by small batch winemakers with heart and soul.

To heighten the senses further, we feature daily live music by cutting edge musicians in jazz, blues and world music, bringing eclectic artistry to our stage in Cambridge.

Diner Reviews
  • "My friends and I loved our dinner at the "Beat Hotel". The food/atmosphere/music was fantastic! The service could have been better, it was good but not outstanding. He was not on" top of our table" - we had to look for him to order - he was friendly and helpful but seemed to pay more attention to the other tables. We tipped 18% but would have given more if the service was better."

  • "I'd go In for drinks but not to sit & eat. They make a big deal about reservations &confirming w/a credit card if you cancel it's $25/head charge.3conversations w/the restaurant , reserving, confirming, &follow up:each time requesting a seat near the stage. They promised they'd do their best;they sat us almost as far away from stage as you could get. The table next to us complained, &were moved closer to the stage (man&woman)The food was great, not cheap, waitstaff attentive, music drowned out, decor fun.I can't help but think that if I had been there with my husband our seat would have been better, but I was with my friend for her birthday. Would have given a higher rating if I didn't feel we were treated inferiorly due to our gender."

  • "Hands-down the best brunch I have ever eaten! I chose (after much deliberation--I wanted one of everything!) the short rib eggs benedict and they were so well seasoned and subtle at the same time. My boyfriend had the honey pancakes, which were the best we've ever tried. Our friend got the "meat omelet" which was full of brisket, accompanied with a salad and sliced potatoes. We tried the coffee cake and wish we had taken an order to go. Great bloody mary, too! Brunch features a great live jazz show and the music was in the background--not in your face. Terrific atmosphere and service (our server was Collin, who was attentive but gave us the time we needed to decide on ordering as well as enjoy your experience)."

  • "I have been to the Beat Hotel now probably 5 or more times since it opened. The food is great, the wine and cocktails are great, and the service is always friendly and quick. Steak Frites and the Earth Bowl are my favorites for food. Good mix of healthy & tasty. There is a shortage of music in Cambridge and Beat Hotel got it right- live music free to all starting at 6pm and they insulated the room so that you can actually talk to each other AND hear the music. The layout is great too- big place, but seems cozy and tables are intimate."

  • "This place was packed Friday night. We went early for drinks, and despite being early, we weren't seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. The music was a nice touch."

  • "Glad we went and checked it out, it was fun to go with a group. However, if you're going for the food stick with the basics. However, you would think Steak Frites would be basic however what we got was a piece of steak on a pile of mushy plank potatoes and I think...a sauce poured on top. Interesting! Everything seemed to be kind of mushy, that was the prevailing texture. Anywaay, its a scene, oh and the wine is over-priced and your options for a glass are either 2.5 ounces (what?) for 6-7 bucks or 5 ounces starting at 9 bucks and up."

  • "I LOVED the Beat Hotel. It was perfection from the moment we walked in. The ambiance and the staff were so welcoming and visual pleasing. The food was to die for! The ladies room was probably the cutest and best designed I think I have ever seen."

  • "There was a lot of hype about this place, but I have to admit I was disappointed in the food."

  • "My wife and I have eaten there twice in the last month since we have found this Harvard Square happening. Short rib lasagne, pan seared haddock were both outrageous. Drinks are awesome. Try something new. Our new hangout."

  • "We went her for a birthday celebration. It was restaurant week (lucky for us). The meal was outstanding and the service was unbelievable. We ate on the later side, so the live music was on and it was really loud. I know, it's a music club, and it is supposed to be loud. I still give it a 5/5 stars, and I think it's appropriate the music be so loud, just something to be aware of! We look forward to going back!"

  • "This place has a great bar scene, outstanding food, really good live jazz - at just the right volume, when I was there, a variety of places to eat: at the bar, at tables and at specially built rails where you can stand to chat or just sit and talk. And it stays open till late depending on the day of the week. Coming here for the first time in Dine Out Boston, I was IMPRESSED."

  • "This was a great find. Finally a brunch place that isn't full of children and families, didn't have an insane wait, had AMAZING food (not greasy at all), awesome bloody marys and excellent music. Very spacious and clean place!"

  • "We enjoyed the food , the service and loved listening to the live music.. We will definately be making the beat hotel our regular spot to hangout with our friends!!!"

  • "The music was great. The food was so-so. The wine quality was poor. After all the hype - having to give a credit card to reserve the table and confirming the booking twice, then having to wait until everyone arrived to be seated - it wasn't an experience that lived up to the pretentiousness. We were rushed through the meal in 40 minutes from being led to the table to paying the bill. We weren't asked if we wanted more drinks or dessert or coffee. The speed was inexplicable. The waiter was polite and there were empty tables, so we weren't holding anyone up. Hard to enjoy the music in such a short time. Go for the music, but don't bother getting a table. You can hear fine from the bar if you get there early enough."

  • "I was meeting up with my Nephew who had just come home after being in the French Alps, doing research for a book he is writing about the famous Backcountry extreme skier, Doug Coombs. My nephew is in his early 30's , I am in my late 60's…..wanted to meet him at a hip place…..saw this on T.V., "Chronicle", thought it might be good…..I was a little fearful that the music would be too loud, interfering with our conversation. It was not….The food was fabulous, waiter (Mike) was right on his game. My nephew said when we were leaving, "this place is cool", "I'll be back". I suspect he meant, next time with his mates. Thank you….."

  • "My group of career friends went out to dinner to honor one of us for a particularly hard period in her life. We had a great time, great food, and found the ambiance terrific. I had written in the reservation instructions that we would all be arriving from different job locations and wanted to be seated as we arrived. For some reason this note didn't get to the hostess, but she recovered nicely and seated us. The Brussels sprout salad was out of this world, and the drinks were fabulous. A great companion to the Beehive."

  • "Had the $20.14 Sunday lunch for Dine Out Boston and enjoyed their two-course combo of creamy carrot soup and french toast. Host seemed stiff at the seating desk, but table server was very attentive and friendly. It's was fairly busy in the restaurant despite many options in the area, so I assume their entire menu is solid."

  • "A welcome addition to the neighborhood! Now we have a huge space that has a great vibe with a fun music offering and pretty good food. There are definitely some better restaurants in Harvard Square but none with this level of energy and such an awesome overall experience. We were here to celebrate a birthday and it was the perfect place. Thanks for a wonderful night!"

  • "This place is exactly what Harvard Square needs! A fun bar and restaurant geared toward us more "mature" folk. The music was great, the food was great and the atmosphere was awesome!"

  • "Great find in Harvard Square, my husband felt like a burger and yours did not disappoint. The swordfish tacos were excellent, more than I could finish. the red velvet chocolate cake with coconut icing was divine, neither of us are big on icing, we scraped the plate to get up all of it."

  • "Great food...only eaten the Inca Bowl - Vegan style, but that's what keeps bringing me back. Many places that serve a healthy dish forget the tasty part, but not here. The food is all seasoned amazingly. The toful and tempeh is cooked to crispy which is my favorite and also seasoned perfectly! The drinks rule, the service is nice and helpful and the music and ambiance is swell. Not sure how they did it with the sound, but it's easy to hear your table for conversation even though the place is packed and live music performed. You want to go to here."

  • "We made a reservation and 30 minutes later we were still not seated. We got called up saying our table was ready, then told that was a mistake so we lost our seats in the waiting area. Once we were finally seated, a manager came and apologized to us, which was nice. The food was pretty good but nothing to make up for the earlier mistake. The waiter was attentive and nice, though, and the food came quickly. Choose something other than the oysters -- they were nothing to write home about (as an avid oyster eater.) Cocktails and drinks are plentiful and creative, and this is probably a place you want a late night drink and some jazz, more than a Friday night date dinner."

  • "The service left a lot to be desired. We had an 8:00pm reservation and were made to wait over a half hour for our table. To add insult to injury it took about about 40 minutes for our main course to arrive after our appetizers were cleared away. When my steak did arrive it was overlooked and had to be sent back. It was another 20 minutes before they brought out a new steak that was only slightly better than the first. The waiter was really nice and he did an excellent job; however, the fact remains that the service was slow and my order was not cooked to my specifications. Other than the service issues and the overlooked steak I thought the rest of the food was really good.."

  • "The Beat Hotel has consistently great food and service. The atmosphere is incredible and the decor is gorgeous. The music is always great and at a volume that you can hear your friends above. I love this restaurant and recommend it to everyone I know :)"

  • "I am always into trying something new, and with that menu, it is well worth it. I don't think I will repeat any course until I had them all!"

  • "Similar to it's sister restaurant, the Bee Hive, this place is hip and chic with good live jazz every night; the menu is unusual and diverse, with gems like "Bubble and squeak" (a simple potato side dish), Inca bowls and Earth bowls - excellent vegetarian fare or carnivore's delight. The wine selection is extraordinary and the mixed drinks unusually good (tequila sunrise, with their homemade grenadine!). Though the room is a little too large to me, the atmosphere is fun, with 60's murals and beaded hangings and light fixtures that set the stage but don't overwhelm. It's always been quite busy when I've been there (make reservations ahead!) but I've always had excellent food and service. With good live music, what more could you ask for?"

  • "The food was great, our server was good, music nice. HOWEVER, after our entrees were cleared, the server asked if we'd like dessert. We ordered wine instead. He left, but quickly returned to tell us that the manager told him we had to leave the table, but he would be happy to serve us wine at the bar. This is after we'd spent over $100 at dinner, and had been at the table <1.5hr. I spoke to the manager who was RUDE and unappologetic. I have worked in the restaurant industry, and I understand that there are competing demands; however, this is NOT how you treat customers if you want them to return. I felt dispensible, unvalued, and that they were only in it for the short term gain. I will never dine here again."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "The food was very good. However, since it was St. Patrick's Day and Dine-Out Boston week, the wait staff was so overtaxed and lots of mistakes were made. I notified the manager of my concerns I would go back to try it another time."

  • "The live music in this place and the interior design were probably the two most notable aspects that impressed me in this place. There were varying singers performing blues songs in Spanish with instrument accompaniments that set a nice relaxing vibe that took you outside the city. As for the interior, just as the name of the restaurant would suggest, it took you back to the jazz era, with a slight psychedelic twist. The other aspect that I liked was the service. Great spunky waiter who helped us choose from the menu. The only downside was that the food wasn't extraordinary. The bread pudding dessert is worth getting if you like caramel and ice cream medle on the side. I was not able to try any of their specialty drinks"

  • "Being a sister restaurant to the Beehive, you will find the same great offerings, if not better, at Beat Hotel. The salmon tartare appetizer was perfectly seasoned, and the entrees were delicious, too. The stage is bigger than at the Beehive, and on the night we were there, the seven-piece band was groovy and fun. Our waitress was energetic in a good way; only complaint was not being able to roll our bar tab over to the table."
