BeastInsanely Delicious!!!!Both my kids were in town visiting and are big foodies so Beast was #1 pick to go to for dinner. We had an insanely delicious 6-course meal with wine pairing (my kids, not me). Food is served at communal tables, explained very precise and thoroughly by the servers. My son, having been to culinary school, especially enjoyed watching the cooking, preparation and attention to details by our top chef here in Portland, Naomi. My son and I had just been to Tails and Trotters the day before our meal so we loved some of the meats prepared in different courses from there. It was an outstanding experience --- can't wait to return --- and soon!!!!.
JS5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBeastWonderful dining experience. Spectacular food in a communal setting.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFoie gras bon bon? Why, yes please! There are only two large tables so everyone sits together. The menu is very seasonal and changes weekly. The high points for me in the six course prie fix meal were the first course of haikuri turnip veloute with a foie gras torchon and spring herb sauce verte; the charcuterie plate second course, which included the luscious foie gras bon bon already mentioned; and the desert of a Portland creamery goat cheese tart with sugar snap pea sorbet and Meyer lemon curd.
Oh, and they will not accommodate substitutions, so if you are vegan, vegetarian, or have allergies be sure to check the menu well ahead of time.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, beautifullyExcellent food, beautifully prepared, clearly a masters at work in the kitchen. Wonderful place for a special occasion, would highly recommend.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBeast is BeastDelicious food, great service. Not great for those who are shy in public (the restaurant has only two tables, each seating multiple groups---my table had room for eight). Expensive, but worth it.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVED! the food was awesome,LOVED! the food was awesome, each course was unique and flavors were awesome. care was taken with each plate and their culinary appreciation evident in each dish. look forward to going back!!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways superbBeast is one of Portland's best restaurants. The food is the best we've had in Portland or any other city, including New York City.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA night to rememberWe are from NJ and a foodie best friend recommended we "don't miss this experience". So we made a reservation weeks in advance and we were delighted with the entire evening the food, meticulously prepared and served....do the wine pairing option... The selections were wonderful and we thought each course was special.. The charcuterie course was very interesting....wish the tartare were a bit more seasoned. But the froisgras was memorable. As suggested save for the end of the course....The communal seating idea while a bit awkward at first, turned out to enrich the experience. the folks who shared our table were interesting and knowledgeable as well...about food, photography, This review written by Carol....5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed the experienceWe really enjoyed the experience at the chef's counter. It was great to see the food being prepped and plated at our seats.
The food was delicious, even for myself who doesn't eat beef.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't be happierI eat things at Beast that I would n't normally eat because they're so beautifully prepared. Naomi Pomeroy is a genius wi t h food.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous! My husband and I loved our dining experience at Beast. This is not a place for finicky or meat & potatoes eaters or people who dont like communal dining. The food is divine, and we loved every bite of our 6 course prefix plates. We opted for the wine pairing as well and were glad we did. Portion size was perfect - we were quite satisfied but not stuffed. Wait staff was lovely - friendly, sweet, attentive, but not intrusive. The other couples at our table were lovely - our waitress often had to wait for a pause in the lively conversation to tell us about the next wine or course. A must foodies who enjoy meeting new people!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Time for BrunchThis was my wife and I's first time to Beast for Brunch. It was great! I am not sure where to start. It was all good!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was amazing. We went forIt was amazing. We went for my boyfriends birthday and it was amazing for a celebration! Each course was delicious, and the wine pairing was a fantastic option. It was a little pricey but totally worth it for a special occasion.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were celebrating our anniversaryWe were celebrating our anniversary and found ourselves at a table with a just married couple, another anniversary couple, and newcomers to Portland--all fun table mates. The food and service were impeccable. We will return for another special occasion.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've traveled the World andWe've traveled the World and have had opportunity to dine in some extraordinary places and eat some incredible meals. Yet this Portland treasure called Beast was able to surprise our palates, tantalize our taste buds and amply satisfy the gourmand in us. I took extreme pleasure and delight in every morsel served. The delectability surpassed any meal I've EVER eaten, and the seemingly ease with which all was prepared and graciously served had me mesmerized the evening long. The ladies of Beast ROCK to the max and totally have it going on.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI was a bit star struck toI was a bit star struck to see the owner there. Best meal of my life!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food ! You see theAmazing food ! You see the chef Naomi preparing the food with so much attention ! Great night ! Delicous food and very good wine pairing !4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding but a little pricey-albOutstanding but a little pricey-albeit as expected.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOff night for Beast:(I have been waiting to eat here for over a year. I pined, saved and reviewed the ever changing weekly menu often. Unfortunately I walked away disappointment and let down. The presentation of food and service was beyond outstanding but the food was over-salted on at least 3 of 6 courses. I couldn't even eat more than 2 bites of my 4th course salad. The selection of cheeses was also a let down. I left a lot of it on the plate and that is saying something for me.
Now I understand completely other rave reviews and I am trying to chalk it up to an "off" night for them. I would recommend people try it because I know she is an amazing chef. It's just too bad my special night was a let down:(4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe dining room's communityThe dining room's community table creates a relaxed atmosphere. (It appeared to be hit or miss depending on who your neighbors were; there would be "safety" in numbers for a "circle of friends" social evening.) The food is AMAZING! We were quite ignorant regarding the weekly menu ingredients, but that did not matter. The main course of strip-loin and the charcuterie plate stand out in my mind as the top two in the six courses. Be prepared for a food adventure. (FYI, picky eaters will not be happy). Chef Naomi and her staff are very hospitable and knowledgeable about the entire dining experience. I would definitely recommend the wine pairing with the meal. We had a wonderful evening and made some new friends too!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBEAST restaurant!A must have experience when visiting Portland, Oregon. You have to prioritize visiting this lovely place.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNot for the undadventurousNot for the undadventurous or picky eaters. Had a number of items I would not typically order, but everything was very good. Will expand your horizons if you go in to it with an open mind and stomach.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first experienceThis was my first experience with a prix fixe menu and I was absolutely blown away. The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. The dinner here was absolutely a highlight of my trip to Portland.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMbeast is a feastvery simple concept done to perfection. try it you will be impressed.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA dinner at Beast is an amazingA dinner at Beast is an amazing experience. The flavors and textures are superb, and it is fun to sit at a communal table. If you're going alone or as a couple, I suggest arriving early and striking up a conversation with another couple as you wait, to find some congenial people to sit with. The charcuterie plate is always a highlight. Our first course, a green garlic and wild nettle veloute, was a delight. The main course featured at our meal was a perfect piece of braised pork belly. The meal was rounded off with a stunning rhubarb galette. The portions are generally not large, but it is rich and very filling. Still one of the top restaurants we have visited in the U.S. But don't go if you can't stomach their no substitutions policy.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMeal of a LifetimeFamed Chef Nomi Pomeroy's intimate restaurant and her amazing staff gave me and my brother the meal of our lifetime. To be perfectly fair, it was Sous Chef Micah that was leading the team that fatefull night. I consider myself above average when it comes to being adventerous with my food. But I will be honest, I was intimidated by some of the items on the menu. The Blood Sausage, Squab Heart Turrine, and Fois Gras Bon-bon were at the top of the list. And after our meal was complete it was the items that I was scared by the most that were my favorites. From the friendly staff, to the talented chefs, to the life altering food it was a completely perfect meal. I would recommend it to any and all foodies.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery dish was strikinglyEvery dish was strikingly good. Only complaint was that the salad greens were over dressed. The pacing of the dishes was very good. The wine pairings were excellent, though we would have preferred a red with the charcuterie.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my third dinner atThis was my third dinner at Beast and as usual it was a memorable evening. The food was beyond excellent as has always been the case.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was an incredible EXPERIENCE.This was an incredible EXPERIENCE. The food, the atmosphere, the vibe, everything about this place was a 12 out of 10.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique experienceThe food was delicious and the multiple courses were quite filling. We really enjoyed visiting with the other diners at our table. It was a very unique experience. Just be prepared to drop some major cash ... over $100 per person.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBeast was a unique experienceBeast was a unique experience for me, as I've never dined at a "supper club" style restaurant before. The pre-fixe menu was fun and surprisingly hearty, the food inventive and yet still very recognizable. I really enjoyed watching the staff -- every one of them seems to participate in all of the tasks, from dishwashing to prep to cooking. That's something new for me! The service was outstanding, though one of our servers was quiet enough that I had to lean over to hear her. I don't know that I'll ever like communal seating, but in this case, it was fun -- I sat beside a couple from Australia and we had good conversation throughout the meal. It was a lovely experience.2/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing place.Went here for my anniversary with my husband. The food was amazing, great setting, and very romantic. It's worth the cost.12/22/2012 12:00:00 AMA little Pricey, but a great mealLoved the experience at Beast. The food was exceptional and wonderfully presented. The staff is very knowledgeable and guide you through the six course meal w/ wonderful explanations. Sitting family style was a great way to meet your dinner companions, and to discuss the overall experience. Definitely a must for the foodies. Exceptional beer list - I recommend the Black current beer. The only draw back was the bill - a little over priced for the whole meal.11/17/2012 12:00:00 AMBest Little RestaurantAgain, we had another great meal with lots of excellent things to try.11/16/2012 12:00:00 AM
