A word from Beast
BEAST features the bounty of the Northwest with French inspiration in mind. A six-course prix-fixe dinner is offered five nights a week. The menu changes Wednesday and remains the same for the rest of the week based upon the ingredients of the season. A four-course prix-fixe brunch is offered every Sunday.

Wine pairings are available for dinner and brunch. As our menu changes weekly, so do they.

Because of our small kitchen and a set menu, we don't have the staff and resources to tailor each course to individual dining restrictions. We are able to make an exception for allergies if given advance notice.

A credit card is required to secure all reservations. We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for parties up to five people and a 48-hour cancellation policy for parties of six or more. Any cancellations within the aforementioned timeframes will result in a $75 charge per person.

  • "It was a disappointing experience. After all the accolades and awards, only the first and last courses stood out. The rest was over-salted to an extreme. The wait time to begin (a cold summer soup) and between courses was up to 40 minutes, and the dining room was not even full. By the time we were actually served the seared duck breast course, the meat was cold and congealed. Naomi herself spent most of the dinner texting. We felt like annoyances more than guests."

  • "Over all Beast was fantastic. We arrived on time but recieved a set facing the window and street. We sat with a good group of people, good conversation. The food was wonderfull served in a timely manner with wine (extra charge) I felt the wine was a little over priced for what you recieved, but great pairing with the food. The only thing that was a negative were the chairs, not very comfortable. We will go back."

  • "Everything served here was wonderful: both food and wine. This is a prix-fixe menu, 2-seatings-a-night place. The ambience is nothing special - simple and unobtrusive. And you sit on communal tables, so it's not a place for a "romantic dinner". That aside, EVERYTHING ELSE IS GREAT. Food is inventive and delicious. Service is helpful and professional. And the communal table means you'll talk with lots of other foodie-type folks. Overall, the thing to remember is that the FOOD IS SPECTACULAR. Go here is you want to really savor a delicious meal prepared by a very talented chef."

The wine pairings were delicious, but the food didn't live up. The pork belly was dry and burnt, and everything else just felt very ordinary. Given Beasts reputation I left very disappointed."

  • "Great quality and execution! I enjoyed every dish and it was so enlightening that Beast was able to accommodate my dairy allergies. I was so worried I wouldn't be able to eat much and was about to cancel our reservations until they said it was okay; it was the complete opposite! I walked out with a happy full tummy :). Our menu had sirloin, a charcuterie plate, to die for tomato soup, fried green tomatoes and almond cake for dessert! I would have preferred (and should have requested in advance) to not sit at the communal table, but overall, it was a great experience and looking forward to coming back in the future."

  • "Beast offers an awesome sampling of NW cuisine with each plate coming out like a painter's palette. No large plates of food: it's a French version of farm to table in terms of portions, flavors & presentation. The wine pairing was interesting & each seemed suited to the course at hand. However, that many flavors of vino over the course of one night is not always ideal as you will already have taste sensor overload with the multitude of edible flavors. Community dining style is not for everyone. There are only 2 tables offered for couples (both outside and away from the chef action). Therefore not really a romantic spot. More like a dinner party with people you've never met."

Uncomfortable chairs, communal tables, waiting for all 30 patrons to arrive, and watching a great deal of work going into the meal does not make for a relaxing evening. Six courses are constructed beautifully and you watch the beautiful platings. Not a lot of cooking is going on when you're being served. It's an experience worth having, but if I lived in the Portland area, I probably wouldn't go back."

People should be prepared for the communal style of serving at one of two large tables. My wife and I prefer a quiet dining experience, so were perturbed by the loud couple to our left; however, foodies may enjoy the food conversations generated by the food and other experienced foodies in attendance."

  • "We had a terrific brunch at Beast including the wine pairings which were magnificently matched with each of the four courses. German Reisling and an apricot soufflé topped with maple glazed bacon; Beast hash, freshly cooked vegetables, perfect toast and poached duck eggs with a two year old Beaujolais; perfectly portioned salad lightly dressed accompanied with fresh cheeses and a very red wine from SE France; followed by an amazing chocolate cube of perfect decadence topped with whipped cream matched with a great red port dessert wine that did wonders for the taste buds when consumed together! An enchanting ninety minutes of food and drink. The staff is very gracious and we will return again for brunch as well as dinner next time in PDX"

  • "Lovely six course meal with wine pairing . However one course struck out. The scallop with homemade thousand island and lovage tempura had too many flavours which overwhelmed the scallop, which, rather than being seared was browned and overseasoned. Other courses were lovely, well presented and prepared.BUT the lighting is so dim that it was tough to read the menu cards and see the food, which is part of the pleasure. All in all v good."

  • "Great food, nicely executed. The concept is that you sit at communal tables so you can go alone, as a pair or as a group which is a refreshing idea. Beast also provides very good value for money. Two drawbacks though: insufficient lighting of the plates/table (it is hard to properly see what is on the plate in front of you, both the food and the presentation deserve better!) and the somewhat underwhelming wine pairing. The latter may be more of a personal thing but I found half of the wines served (way) too sweet, and the apportioning was off as well. Half glasses are fine for small plates, but the larger ones could do with more than three sips. I would come back for the food though."

  • "Loved the food, and greatly enjoyed watching Naomi Pomeroy in the kitchen. Your attention to your guest's dining, food and plating was meticulous, and I'd love to take a cooking class from you. You treated your workers with courtesy, and the dishwasher was impressive in that small space and keeping up with the courses. The chairs however are really unbearable, very uncomfortable and no where to put my purse. This is mentioned in almost every review!"

  • "Never in my life have I had such amazing food and almost wanted it to stop because it was too much of a good thing. But it's totally worth it! Every course was so delicious and I was full by course four, but in a good way. They treated us like kings and queens and we loved every second of it. It was really cool to see a chef we'd watched on tv making our meals live in front of us. She made it look easy. Our staring might have bordered on creepy, sorry! We were on vacation from Dallas and booked our rez two months in advance and it was everything we thought it would be. Thanks for an amazing night."

The only criticism I would have is that the staff be more engaging with the diners. At times it was silent and the staff didn't seem to make themselves available to even receive compliments."

The multiple course meal was a bit over the top as two of the courses had up to seven items so my palate could not saver or explore the offerings. The beet soup was sublime and, ultimately, my favorite course. We will go again but with different expectations."

  • "Read about this restaurant and just had to try it. You would recognize the chef from "Top Chef Masters". An elegant 6 course meal from beginning to end with obscure, delicious wine pairings. I wish I was there right now. We sat outside on a warm summer night in Portland. Knowledgeable, gracious staff. Make sure to have a cocktail across the street, first, where they spin romantic vinyl records. A great way to spend a 15th anniversary."
