A word from Beast
BEAST features the bounty of the Northwest with French inspiration in mind. A six-course prix-fixe dinner is offered five nights a week. The menu changes Wednesday and remains the same for the rest of the week based upon the ingredients of the season. A four-course prix-fixe brunch is offered every Sunday.

Wine pairings are available for dinner and brunch. As our menu changes weekly, so do they.

Because of our small kitchen and a set menu, we don't have the staff and resources to tailor each course to individual dining restrictions. We are able to make an exception for allergies if given advance notice.

A credit card is required to secure all reservations. We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for parties up to five people and a 48-hour cancellation policy for parties of six or more. Any cancellations within the aforementioned timeframes will result in a $75 charge per person.

The multiple course meal was a bit over the top as two of the courses had up to seven items so my palate could not saver or explore the offerings. The beet soup was sublime and, ultimately, my favorite course. We will go again but with different expectations."

I wish I was there right now. We sat outside on a warm summer night in Portland. Knowledgeable, gracious staff. Make sure to have a cocktail across the street, first, where they spin romantic vinyl records. A great way to spend a 15th anniversary."

  • "We finally had right timing to plan a brunch at Beast! Each course included pork and was amazing and delicious. The experience was not lost on our party of 5. Every bite , every mouthful was exquisite and we discussed the food for better part of the most enjoyable and happy meal! Fortunately I requested accommodation upon making reservation for a vegetarian in our party. And that was brilliant and accommodated. Looking forward to next visit PDX in the Fall an doing a dinner for sure, an an opportunity to meet Chef Naomi."

Reviews have led me to have high expectations for this restaurant and I can happily say they were met on my recent visit there. Every course was unique in taste. I particularly enjoyed the duck confit, probably the best I have had. The simple salad that followed was a lovely counterpoint. There were seven courses and no misses. Felt a bit stuffed after, but happy."

I ate dishes I normally would scoff at and was blown away by how delicious they were (I'm looking at you, chicken liver mousse). I am not a wealthy man so it took my tenth wedding anniversary to get me to drop the cash to come here and while it was the most expensive meal I have ever had, it lived up to my expectations. Not much more you could ask for—except maybe more comfortable chairs. I am a fairly large fella (6'3" 200lbs) so the tiny chairs were a bit of a challenge but they certainly would not deter me from going again. My bank account, however, will deter from visiting again for a while. That's okay; it's an experience worth waiting for. "

Beast is for foodies, true. But, I took my mom (true Foodie), daughters (21 & 16, wanna be Foodies) and ex husband (Foodie by default) and we all had a wonderful time. The service was gracious and top notch. The meal, incredible. If you were on the fence about whether Beast is worth it, and you enjoy places like Ned Ludd, then go. Just go."

  • "My husband and I dined at Beast during our honeymoon. A friendly gentleman at a "Taste of Portland" event a few days earlier recommended this gem to us - and we are so glad we took his advice. Every dish was crafted perfectly. Every review I have read has raved about the charcuterie plate and everyone is so right! I loved the steak tartar on a lardo cracker and topped with quail egg - it is something I have always wanted to try. I also enjoyed the quail dish - the stuffing was so flavorful. I have to admit that I was kind of intimidated when I read that quail was on the menu but it was presented to us in an approachable way - "don't be afraid to use your hands!" We also enjoyed Naomi Pomeroy's bar across the street!"

Communal dining (can be fun if you have the right blend) on uncomfortable chairs (Oui Oui! C'est Francais!) in a small little place off of 30th & Killingsworth. Be serious about dining here; there's a $75 charge to cancel within a 24 hr window. That said, -- there's a reason and if you were holding a dinner party and procuring only the finest ingredients etc., -- you too would want an exact headcount. And Voila! you have it-- a dinner party, and an evening to savor with some of the best haute cuisine Portland offers! Congrats to Naomi -James Beard award winner best chef PNW! WE ARE SO PROUD! "

  • "We enjoyed our feast at Beast for my foodie daughter's 21st Birthday! It was a culinary adventure that satisfied our desire for dishes we've never had before. Most of the food was exceptional with the exception of a beet salad. The beets were extremely salty and I noticed most of the diners at our communal table left them behind. Save for that one course (out of six) we all scoured our plates! The other disappointment I would venture to mention was the wine pairing. The size of the pour was about a quarter of a glass which wasn't a tragedy because we didn't like most of them anyway. We felt that the wine at $35 was a poor value. But the food was mostly wonderful!"

  • "Everything was delicious and highly creative. Beautiful presentations like no other in Portland. Portions were very generous and we were plenty full by the end. I think my biggest complaint would be not the restaurant itself but the unfriendly people attending the dinner. It is a COMMUNAL table. Please don't go to a communal dinner if you aren't willing to open up and make some acquaintances. I was very uncomfortable with these people across the table looking around at other people and whispering to each other the whole night. They made no attempt whatsoever to get to know anyone else. There were a few more friendly folks but overall it was a challenge trying to make conversation and to just not feel awkward with the whole situation. "

  • "Beast isn't for everyone: you have to enjoy communal tables and eat whatever they choose to serve you. But everything is familiar, accessible, prepared with care, lots of delicious flavor, and beautifully plated. It's classic NW "french" with nary a kombu, smoke or kimchee in sight. We enjoyed the wine pairings, even with a shocking 5:1 white/rose to red ratio. Semi-dry white with cheese? It worked! I can see why some rave and some are underwhelmed: next time you have some extra cash to spend, you'll just have to go and see for yourself. (But let's talk about those chairs: Is Beast giving diners the finger by not retiring them after countless complaints over the years?)"

It was neat to be in the center of the kitchen and watch them plate everything up. The portions were just right but I have to say that I was so full when I left that I felt overly stuffed.
