A word from Beast
BEAST features the bounty of the Northwest with French inspiration in mind. A six-course prix-fixe dinner is offered five nights a week in a communal setting. The menu changes Wednesday and remains the same for the rest of the week based upon the ingredients of the season. A four-course prix-fixe brunch is offered every Sunday.

Wine pairings are available for dinner and brunch. As our menu changes weekly, so do they.

We politely decline substitutions as we offer a set menu only.

A credit card is required to secure all reservations. We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for parties up to five people and a 48-hour cancellation policy for parties of six or more. Any cancellations within the aforementioned timeframes will result in an $85 charge per person and $40 for brunch.

The food was good, but nothing our group didn't feel they could cook at home with success. French onion soup, nothing special, but good, Charcuterie, most creative. Pork loin and risotto, nothing special about it and the pork was too rare. Fall Allium Salad, a mess on the plate, look like overcooked mush and tasted awful. Cheese plate, was fine. Dessert basically a fancy version of S'mores. All the wine pairings were very good. Service was great. Communal dining and none of the other diners wanted to engage, very flat atmosphere and the team in the kitchen seemed tired and flat as well. We were at the 8:45 seond seating. One couple got up and left. Space was charming. But I wouldn't recommend it or go back.

Our trip to Portland was made special by a dinner at Beast. We loved the communal table and the conversations with other food lovers was such fun. Delicious charcuterie plate and the duck were highlights. Definitely would make a return visit.

Definitely worth the money. A very unique dining experience that left me wanting more but too full to possibly handle it. 6 courses with optional wine pairings. Really enjoyed watching the food working before hitting the table. The writing on the walls are nice touches. Instead of being bombarded plate by plate, there was a nice ebb and flow of food. And the music was most memorable during dessert. It 'took my breath away' as I entered the gastronomical danger zone before it was time to say 'good bye horses.'

I love to try new places with interesting menus but my husband is not a "foodie" so I often go try these new places by myself or with a friend. I'd been wanting to try Beast since I first heard about it. Knowing it was a communal table style of restaurant I was confident that going it alone would be fine - I'd have plenty of good conversation with those seated around me. Unfortunately I was surrounded by couples focused only on each other and not one of them even made eye contact with me during the entire dinner. It was very awkward. The food was very good, everything was presented beautifully. I would definitely go back but only with a foodie friend!

The food is very good, particularly if you like food to be rich and with strong flavors. Wine pairing was interesting, although didn't always work because some of the menu had some wine-pairing challenges in it, like powerful balsamic and sweet sauces. Everything was well executed and with one exception the service was excellent. The exception was that they were not tremendously accommodating for a serious food allergy, even though I had checked with them ahead of time. Definitely worth going if you eat anything and don't mind the cost, which is significant by Portland standards.

As far as prix fixe meals go, the portions were hearty, and we definitely got our money's worth. Every course was perfect, and the meal was certainly an event. My only complaint was that the lighting was very very dim and the menu had very small print. My mother certainly struggled to read the wine menu, and we had to rely on the server's quiet description of each course to guess as to what we were eating. Ultimately the experience was akin to dining in the dark.

My fiancée and I were so looking forward to our meal at Beast on our honeymoon and unfortunately we both found the experience less than enjoyable. The food is impeccable, beautiful, clean and delicious, but the atmosphere made us uncomfortable. We knew it would be communal dining, which we have done before and enjoyed, but here, it is such an intimate, quiet atmosphere and the service is so hands off that it puts the pressure on the diner to create conversation with those around them. We both felt like we were at a lame dinner party with 6 strangers, forced to make polite small talk. We couldn't wait to leave! Not what you want in a meal that is over $100 per person

No menu. You get what she serves you. Pay one price of $75.00. Small plates that are on the larger side. I was very full at the end, started getting full at course four and there were eight or nine. Excellent food. The Best meal I have had really. And we have visited many places like this with the pay one price and get what they serve you. Communal seating that is three large tables. Recommend trying to sit on right wall so you get the experience of watching them cook. You pay one price for the food and another if you want to drink. We went with the wine pairings at an additional $35.which was worth it. Left with a bad taste as they charged us an additional 4.00 for a cup of coffee, which was silly as it is supposed to be pay one price.

If the food and the service hadn't been so good, I would have objected to the chairs. Old fashioned soda chairs are about as uncomfortable as you can get for a dining experience that lasts 2 hours. They allow the restaurant to squeeze in more people, but I'm sure there are other chairs that could do the trick that are comfortable. Chairs aside, the communal dining experience is unique for this quality of food. Each course was tasty and exquisitely presented. The timing of each course was impeccable. As with most French oriented cuisine, portions were adequate (small by most standards), but when so much is cooked with tons of butter and cream and everything else fattening, you didn't walk away hungry. IMO, it was just right. I'll be back.

I took my sister and daughter to Beast for a special occasion and found it as innovative and gracefully executed as the first time I ate there. From the starter veloute course to the final sip of Madeira, every bite was an experience in itself. The wine pairings, while raising the price considerably, were exactly perfect.

The planned celebration on the occasion of my wife's birthday quickly turned into an evening to be stricken from our gastronomic memories. Our evening at BEAST was a disappointment and did not live up to its advance press. Good to Mediocre seemed to be the range. Greatly diminishing the pleasure of our evening, however, was the ubiquitous Portland communal table, in particular the narcissistic outpourings of an insufferably boorish diner who regaled us ad nauseam with her biographical narrative, relieved mercifully by her silence when she seized her Iphone to eternalize her dinner plate. Thank God for the relief of such moments! Portland restaurateurs need to understand that propinquity can often promote a quick death to dining pleasure.

My husband and I dined at Beast for our anniversary. In short, it was the best dining experience we have ever had. The service was impeccable, the food was amazing and the wine pairings were superb. The lamb that was served as the entree was certainly the best I have ever eaten. We had the opportunity to sit on the corner of the prep station - which at first seemed a bit awkward but proved to be a great table right in the thick of the action in the kitchen! I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly and only wish I had come here earlier. Cannot wait to go back!

Our dinner at Beast was fantastic. Everything we expected and more. Naomi was front and center serving us each course and taking questions. She was even slicing the bread for the tables. Very impressive to see a head chef so involved in the end to end process. The menu was creative and seasonal and her attention to detail made it was easy to see the care and thought she put into each plate. We appreciated that they took the time to describe each plate and tell us which local farm the food was sourced from. Something fun and different than your standard fine dining restaurant. Perfect place for a special occasion dinner.

For a timed event like this with no bar, I didn't appreciate waiting 40 mins from 8:45pm start before I got any food or drink. I felt the pace of the 5 courses was very slow and they could've been faster about the next course. The food was excellent and a nice experience but probably wouldn't do it again.

Dinner was wonderful but not the best I've had there. The cold soup at the beginning was lovely but not to the level i've seen at Beast. The servers come around with more water, but don't ask if there's anything one needs or if the food is to one's liking. Which it pretty much always is, but that level of caring could be improved. Also it would be great if Ms. Pomeroy addressed the diners at least once during service, to talk about what about the meal was fresh and local, what her vision for the meal was, etc. That said the meal was, as usual, fantastic and beautiful food.

We chose Beast to celebrate a momentous birthday and were not disappointed! Each of the six courses was artfully presented and all were perfectly balanced offering a contrast in flavors and textures that complemented each other. The wines were excellently paired. Each course was described in detail on the menu plus introduced by the server. We sat at the large table with 14 others, yet it was very easy to have our own private conversation. Our fellow diners were very interesting and not obtrusive. I can't wait to return for another Beast feast!

It was a disappointing experience. After all the accolades and awards, only the first and last courses stood out. The rest was over-salted to an extreme. The wait time to begin (a cold summer soup) and between courses was up to 40 minutes, and the dining room was not even full. By the time we were actually served the seared duck breast course, the meat was cold and congealed. Naomi herself spent most of the dinner texting. We felt like annoyances more than guests.

The food was wonderfull served in a timely manner with wine (extra charge) I felt the wine was a little over priced for what you recieved, but great pairing with the food. Everything served here was wonderful: both food and wine. This is a prix-fixe menu, 2-seatings-a-night place. The ambience is nothing special - simple and unobtrusive. And you sit on communal tables, so it's not a place for a "romantic dinner". That aside, EVERYTHING ELSE IS GREAT. Food is inventive and delicious. Service is helpful and professional. And the communal table means you'll talk with lots of other foodie-type folks. Overall, the thing to remember is that the FOOD IS SPECTACULAR. Go here is you want to really savor a delicious meal prepared by a very talented chef.

Great quality and execution! I enjoyed every dish and it was so enlightening that Beast was able to accommodate my dairy allergies. I was so worried I wouldn't be able to eat much and was about to cancel our reservations until they said it was okay; it was the complete opposite! I walked out with a happy full tummy :). Our menu had sirloin, a charcuterie plate, to die for tomato soup, fried green tomatoes and almond cake for dessert! I would have preferred (and should have requested in advance) to not sit at the communal table, but overall, it was a great experience and looking forward to coming back in the future.

Beast offers an awesome sampling of NW cuisine with each plate coming out like a painter's palette. No large plates of food: it's a French version of farm to table in terms of portions, flavors & presentation. The wine pairing was interesting & each seemed suited to the course at hand. However, that many flavors of vino over the course of one night is not always ideal as you will already have taste sensor overload with the multitude of edible flavors. Community dining style is not for everyone. There are only 2 tables offered for couples (both outside and away from the chef action). Therefore not really a romantic spot. More like a dinner party with people you've never met.
