Diner Reviews
  • "My Husband and I decided to spend our New Year's Eve dinner at The Beach House and it was very disappointing and over prices. First of all they stuck us on a duece in the side room right next to the kitchen. It was noisy and the decorations for New Years were a joke. The menu was prefix and you would think should be fool-proof, but no it was terrible. The lobster was dry and my medium rare stake was like cardboard. Being locals from Hawaii, one would think we would get better treatment. A very disappointing New Year's Eve dinner."

  • "Surprising good choice for a hotel restaurant. Kimchi brussel sprouts are a must try. Both do the fish entrees ordered were excellent."

  • "We had guests in town and made reservations at the beautiful Moana Surfrider Hotel's beach House Rest. We ate outside on the deck and watched a gorgeous sunset as we sipped on drinks and waited to order. Our waiter was so gracious and made it clear we could take our time and really enjoy the ambiance and the meal. The meal was fresh and delicious (we had the raw seafood bar) and our overall experience wonderful. We highly recommend it. PS The restaurant offers kama'aina rates so we saved 10% on our total bill, which was quite a saving!"

  • "The ambiance and high ratings of this restaurant on the ocean is why we chose this restaurant to have dinner at. The service was ok but the food was not very high quality or tasty. For the price of our dinner we would not return. Could have gotten a better meal at Outback Steakhouse ."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner here. The outside dining was perfect, service was attentive. They were even kind enough to change our table to accommodate our wishes on a busy night. We had a ribeye and lobster. The ribeye had so much flavour in seasoning, delicious. We share everything so ordered a few side dishes, truffle tater tots. A note, the portions are large. Couldn't get through a lot of it. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends. Enjoy."

  • "I have been to the Beachhouse a number of times, this time it was just a little bit off the mark. My mother in law visits from the mainland each winter and she loves the Beachhouse, so we always go when she visits. It's also a great place for special occasions. My bone marrow appetizer was fabulous, and a new addition to the menu. The salads were as god as ever. However. The three main courses just didn't make their usual high standard. My steak wasn't up to their usual par, a poorer cut, cooler than it should have been and the potatoes were cold. The other two steaks were overdone. Disappointing. Will it stop me coming back? Definitely not. Everyone has an off night. It's still my favourite steak house in Waikiki by a long shot."

  • "Had a great afternoon tea. Showed up early to our reservation and was greeted warmly and without any drama. Glad we came a bit early so we were not the last ones as it does get quite quiet later. Had great seats right along the rail so it was fun to watch the beach activity, and marvel at the banyan tree. We came to this grand dame for afternoon tea but it was so welcoming we came back a few times while walking the strip to stop for drinks at the coffee shop out front, and use the restrooms. We passed a lovely open lounge with a pianist/crooner and I would have liked to enjoy a night cap but alas my partner was knackered."

  • "The beach house seems to always do very well. Our dinner was tasty but the prime rib was not as tender as usual. Also they have switched out the Rosemary Bread for flat bread which is a poor choice. I had French Onion soup which is always very good. The Mac and Cheese is very good as well."

  • "We celebrated my birthday here during a visit to Waikiki. The hotel is gorgeous! We had a table on the veranda with a great view of the sunset. A band and dancer were entertaining in the nearby patio so we enjoyed the music. Our food was delicious. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and accommodated special requests for seasoning. The service was attentive but not intrusive. It was a lovely evening. I would definitely go back!"

  • "I took my wife for a special birthday dinner at the beach house. As I requested in my reservation try gave us a table right on the waterfront. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. And it set the perfect mood for a romantic evening. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that it was a bit overpriced. It's definitely a worthwhile spot for a special occasion but be prepared to pay."

  • "What a beautiful hotel the Moana Surfrider is and what a beautiful restaurant the Beachhouse is. Views of the beach surround you and live music was playing when we were there. The service was good and I had my favorite drink of the vacation there, it was a lavender drink and absolutely delicious. Outside of that the food was ok, quite pricy for the quality. We would probably go back for drinks and appetizers."

  • "We went for lunch and the service was a little slow- even for Hawaii. However, with the beautiful view and relaxing music playing it was not torture. I had the kale salad and yellowtail sashimi which were both very fresh. My colleague had fruit and yogurt which he voted to be adequate. I would come back for brunch, but more for the ambiance than anything else."

  • "The ambiance of outdoor dining along the beach on the grand veranda of the Surfrider can't be beat in Waikiki. It is very romantic and charming. We have eaten there twice with the first time definitely being the best. This last time the food just didn't match up to the ambiance and price. The filet steak lasted about 5 bites. The prime rib had no spices or flavor to speak of. If we head back there again, it will be for a cocktail under the big banyan tree or maybe for brunch. definitely a place to stop by and take in the beauty."

  • "We chose to spend our last night on Oahu by revisiting The Beachouse at The Moana Surfrider. I say revisit, it was five years earlier for our silver anniversary. Now it was our 30th and thanks to OpenTable we secured one of the best seats in the house. Sitting outside on the veranda with the sound of the ocean lapping onto Waikiki beach was very romantic! Excellent service from the staff ensured we had an evening to remember. We both enjoyed superb steaks and the generous servings of vegetables made for very satisfying mains. Before finishing with a coffee the management provided us with a delicious dessert to celebrate our special occasion. Not a cheap evening by any means but 1st class service and cuisine to match does come at a cost. 5*."

  • "The food and service were fabulous. Our server Lana was great. We had the crabcakes and poke appetizers and loved them. My wife had the 3 course tasting menu and everything in it was tasty. I had a petite filet with shrimp and the file was cooked perfectly."

  • "We go to the Beachhouse each time we are in Oahu, which is several times a year. We love the view, food and service. This time the kitchen seemed to have some challenges in getting the food out. People, including us, seemed to have to wait longer than usual for their entrees. Our server was one of the best we have had."

  • "I gave this review three stars for ambience only because it was rainy and VERY windy and there was no way to block it. We were on the veranda and were a little chilly. Also, we would love to have been able to see and hear the Hawaiian music and see the dancer but are unable to from the restaurant. Minor things. Over all, it was exceptional!"

  • "When we asked our waiter if any of the menu items could be 'tweaked' to deal with a lactose intolerance, he said "no, not really". Only with some prodding was he willing to ask the chef for some variation, which was done and was somewhat tasty. Almost everything on the menu had cheese as an ingredient. Why can't anyone cook really tasty dishes without cheese???"

  • "I love the ambiance of the Moana veranda. They have changed a few items since my last visit and I have to say I miss the elegant sandal wood fans given in the First Lady tea. They are replaced by cheap wood fans probably better off staying in their boxes. However, the menu has been updated and the tea sandwiches are delicious. As is the lemon curd for the scones. Highlights: view from the veranda and service from Carlos."

  • "This restaurant didn't impress me like WOW, or anything unfortunately. Not so good, not so bad, it's just so-so kind restaurant. If I ever dine here again? No. Steak was kinda chewy, risotto was salty, grilled vegetable didn't have any flavor, only 3 pieces of shrimp cocktail.... All these for the high price!! No-way, I ain't coming back here."

  • "We had requested a table on the veranda. Our request was honored, but to our disappointment, we were seated at the most distant table from the ocean end of the veranda. The trade winds were absent and the ceiling fans proved inadequate to comfortably refresh our area. The table had a wobble which should have been corrected during dinner service prep. A large party was seated nearby and their celebration made it difficult to converse. They should have been in a private room to save diners from the obnoxious din.The food was excellent and our server, Dylan, never batted an eyelash when our guest ordered his rack of lamb well-done. We expected more from this famous hotel restaurant, especially at the prices charged."

  • "I rarely order steak out except at capital grill. Big mistake ordering it here on vacay. Server seemed to rush us since we split dinner. Even though we ordered a bottle of wine. Average hotel food, too bad; we hoped for more"

  • "Outstanding all the way round. The 5:30 PM dinner seating afforded us a stunning view of the sunset while enjoying our pre-dinner drinks. Our server, Lee, was outstanding as well. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "All 4 of us had the $45 3 course special which was really yummy & good portion sizes. We had a glass of sparkling wine and a bottle of red, both really good. Our waiter was very attentive and we had live music all evening which really added to the relaxing, romantic ambience. Highly recommend to all."

  • "Amazing food that for sure.. But keep in mind the service is pretty slow. We thought it seemed like they were under staffed. Other than that the fois gras appetizer and the ahi are fantastic!! Definitely recommended it."

  • "My wife and I went to Beachhouse after seeing a prix fix special for Restaurant Week. Not knowing the portion sizes, and considering $45 for the set, we didn't expect too much. The bisque was good, but the steak far exceeded expectations. An absolute beautiful setting and free valet. Will definitely be taking guests to Beachhouse in the future!"
