  • "We are so pleased we found this beautiful spot. We have been there 4 times in the last 3 months, all for dinner. We enjoy watching the sunset. We've not been disappointed with any of the food. All good. The service is excellent, especially appreciated not rushing our meals."

  • "We had a fabulous breakfast, our waiter was so pleasant even showed us pics he took of the whales & an incredible sunset! You can definately tell the staff enjoy their jobs! As always a beautiful view! This in my 4th time. We will be back! Thank you Sheila / Yorba Linda"

  • "What better than to have a meal and look out onto the ocean, then when finished stroll along the beach. This is one of my favorite places. Great to take out of town visitors here and for special occasion ."

  • "Do not recommend for physically challenged. Mom had some difficulty negotiating walker through the tables. There is a ramp for access from the back [several steps in front are for the able only], and the staff stored her walker during the meal. Wait staff was very attentive. View is terrific. Food was good. My turkey sandwich was very tasty, actual turkey breast, not deli meat. My sister's fish and chips were "good. Not the best I've had, but not the worst" , my mom's burger was good, but she did not care for the roll used. The tables are very close together, so on this busy school-break-Tuesday, it was fairly noisy. Would heartily recommend the tomato soup, which we did not have this time, but had last October on a cooler day."

  • "The salmon stuffed with crab was wonderful. My wife had the nightly special, steamed halibut which was awful. It was dry, overcooked and tasteless. It was the worst entrée either of us have ever experienced. Normally everything is great."

  • "Casual beachfront restaurant. Friendly, but slow service. Excellent food. Reservations a good idea"

  • "Beautiful loaction- really the reason to go. Like most 'amazing ocean view' places they get by on pretty good food knowing you'll come for the view. And it is beautiful. Be sure to allow time to walk the beach or up the trail to Crystal Cove State Beach Park. You can park at the State Beach lot across Coast Highway and Shuttle over or take the 5 minute walk. The restaurant validates parking so it is free. Food prices are reasonable - especially cosnidering the view. We had most of the menu options for breakfast as we were a party of six. Food was tasty and well prepared. Beniegts a defintie highlight! We had to wait well past our reservation time, but it is a pretty place to wait. Service is enthusiastic."

  • "This is a great place to bring visitors - or feel like a local getaway yourself. My favorite is to have breakfast and then spend some time at the beach and visiting the historic Crystal Cove community."

  • "Literally on the beach, fabulous views, great for watching the sunset and the food is superb!!! Plus it's casual ....what could be better other than cushions on the hard seats on the chairs!!"

  • "I brought my sister and friend that live in NorCal and they loved it! It is just such an idyllic setting...great for just drinks and apps at the bar or brunch, lunch or dinner...the go to for any meal, occasion or just an impromptu visit! Thank you! :)"

  • "As always, I was impressed with the food, service and ambience...everyone in my party enjoyed their time at the Beachcomber. It never disappoints."

  • "This restaurant is unique, right on the ocean. Loved the special Halibut, and the fun atmosphere. It was worth the wait."

  • "The Beachcomber Cafe was a great place to impress my out-of-town guests. Although reservations must be made well in advance, my guests were okay with the early, 4:00 p.m. time, which was actually still considered "lunch". The menu was more reasonably priced and we still had the great ocean ambience. The sun did start to heat up our table on the patio, which was kinda uncomfortable. However, since the service was friendly & efficient, we did not "suffer" too long! After "lunch", we took the stairs up to Ruby's Date Shack for a yummy milkshake, again enjoying fabulous ocean views!"

  • "Tucked in Crystal Cove, this restaurant provides an excellent opportunity for oceanfront dining. If you go for breakfast, the beignets are a must. You can't beat taking a pre- or post-meal stroll along the beach either. The staff is very friendly."

  • "A rare opportunity to dine on the beach in a nostalgic setting with great service and a breakfast as good as you will find anywhere along the SoCal coast. A walk on the beach is the logical follow on activity!"

  • "I almost don't want to recommend this restaurant because I don't want everyone to know about it. It is difficult to get to (not wheelchair friendly) but worth the effort. The food the service, the view is exceptional every single time."

  • "MY LUNCH TIME RESERVATION THAT I MADE WEEK'S BEFORE WAS CANCELLED BY THE HOST AT THE CHECK IN AFTER I CAME AT BREAKFAST - FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON HE DECIDED I DIDN'T NEED LUNCH IF I WAS THERE FOR BREAKFAST. UNFORTUNATELY, MY DAUGHTER DOES NOT GET UP FOR BREAKFAST, AND I HAD COME BACK WITH HER AT OUR APPOINTED TIME & HE HAD GIVEN OUR TABLE AWAY. HE DID SAY WE COULD HAVE THE NEXT TABLE, BUT AFTER 10 MINUTES OF WAITING, WE WENT BACK TO OUR COTTAGE AND ATE FOOD IN THE FRIG. I AM STILL SHOCKED BY THIS SITUATION AS WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS FROM THE COTTAGES ABOVE IS A BIG DEAL FOR THE ELDERLY. HOWEVER, THIS IS THE FIRST BLEMISH IN ALL OUR 20+ DINING EXPERIENCES - AND I LOVE ALL THE FOOD AND FRIENDLY STAFF WHO WORK HERE."

  • "My boyfriend's sister recommended that we try Beachcomber Cafe. I didn't know what to expect but I'm very glad that we went. The restaurant is on the beach, so it goes without saying that we had a spectacular view. A lot of restaurants have a fabulous view, while everything else is mediocre. This is definitely not the case with Beachcomber Cafe. They have it all. Our food (short ribs, swordfish) were extremely well prepared. My mouth is watering at the memory of those delicious entrees. We had a generous portion of beignets for dessert, which we shared. Our server , Melissa, could not have been better. She was helpful, funny, attentive and didn't rush us. It was an outstanding experience overall. Would strongly recommend."

  • "The minute was only dinner entries, no sandwiches, lesser expensive options. We asked for a table of eight we got one for six. Made reservation over a week or two in advance but got a table in the back. Was disappointed but loved the area."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us by our neighbors. We were delighted with our experience! The food was excellent and the ambience couldn't be beat! We will definitely recommend this to our friends and family. A must next time we are in Newport!"

  • "Less than impressed. The food was just blah considering how much I paid. The best thing I ordered was the drinks. Restaurants with nice locations with a view tend to slack off when it comes to quality of food. I was better off eating amazing food at fashion island and paying the same."

  • "I have lived in Orange County for 20 years and never knew this restaurant existed. It is tucked away on the beach in Crystal Cove state park near PCH. Once you find it you'll become a regular! Great food, great service!"

  • "What can you say about the location?? Its amazing, so beautiful, and your feet are practically in the ocean. The food was good, better then most places that have this kind of view. I had the lobster roll, and I enjoyed it, but Cape Cod it was not. Go to this place to eat in a magnificent location."

  • "I have been to the Beachcomber several times. The lunch menu should suit all your guests. The bar area is an alternative with self seating and good selection of small meals. The dinner Menu is expensive but the sunset is to die for. Reservations are a must. If you just wonder in put your name in and take a stroll on the beach. Be prepare to walk from where you park. Take in the natural California landscape. You will impress anyone you bring to this hidden jewel on the beach."

  • "My husband and I really enjoyed the grilled cheese and tomato soup and the fish tacos. I also enjoyed a lemon ginger martini that was to die for :) If they had had kids portions/meals we would have given it 5 stars! While they enjoyed the virgin pina colada's....they shared a fettucini alfredo that was about 4 noodles swimming in mushrooms (not described on menu) that left us a little disappointed. But the view and setting were great...we were out on the patio and it felt like it would have been a sin to sit indoors. We made reservations ahead of time and were glad we did."

  • "The Beachcomber at Crystal Cove is a unique experience in today's world of chain restaurants and urban chic. In Southern California dining on the beach in a cozy, outdoor café is an "endangered dining experience." Enjoy the Beachcomber for all of its charm, nostalgia, good food, good service and extraordinary ambiance at a moderate cost."

  • "Had an outside table for lunch (had asked in reservation for a seat with a good view). Beach view was wonderful. Would definitely take friends and family (from outside So-Cal) here for the beach atmosphere but wouldn't visit otherwise since the food wasn't anything special (had the burger and fish and chips)."

  • "All 4 of us had fish either swordfish or ahi tuna. It was delicious. some of the best swordfish I've had. We are bringing another couple on Sunday, April 13th for dinner. I know they'll like it also."

  • "We loved our trip to the Beachcomber! The hostess were very nice and so was the bar. Lunch was good. Our server started out good but then I just felt rushed the whole time. I don't remember her name, a dark hair women, she brought out our food about 10 mins after we ordered which seems oddly quick! Then I had an issue with mine but she didn't some back for almost 15 mins. I just ate mine anyways which wasn't a big deal but I think they should check on you sooner than that. My boyfriend finished before me and the busser picked up his plate and then a few mins later the waitress came by and asked if we wanted dessert. I was like HELLO im still eating lunch here. again RUSHED! we sad no, got the check, and left. total time there: ONLY 32mins!"
