  • "It's just amazing how quickly the bill adds up to $100 for three people. We have to find somewhere where a burger is a burger and not a fortune."

  • "As a San Francisco Native, I was bereft when the Beach Chalet stayed empty for years. I am so happy it is back as a wonderful restaurant! The views from the tables are fantastic--Ocean Beach is always a grand vista. The food is fantastic. Something for everyone. The home made beer is also good. Service is swift and very friendly. I go there often for lunch meetings or just to enjoy the fantastic spicy Bloody Marys. It's a lively place; I've tried almost everything on the lunch menu and have never been disappointed! I thoroughly enjoy this restaurant and you will too. Prices are competitive without being too high. Bravo!"

  • "I have eaten here before to good experiences. But tonight 4/7/14 not a good experience. After being seated it was 5 to 10 minutes before the waiter came to the table to take our drink orders. We ordered dinner the same time as our drinks. The salad was brought to our table before our drinks. The salad not of good quality. I asked for some salt and it never appeared throughout the whole meal. The main entrée did not get served until almost thirty minutes after salad was served. When our entree's arrived.the empty salad plates were not picked up. I asked for an end cut which I got but it was very tuff. My two companions also had prime and they said it was satisfactory. Service very slow. Food not of best quality Just not up to snuff."

  • "This place has gone south unfortunately. It was a terrible experience. After waiting almost an hour past our reservation time we finally got seated. Management or better yet, lack of it was apparent throughout. The receptionist and seaters were unprofessional and poorly trained. Nothing like being ignored and lied to over and over again to really put you in the party atmosphere. I'd really like to say something positive but other than our waiter seemed pleasant and helpful, the rest was a 2 on a 1 to 10 scale."

  • "The open table reservation was excellent. It was quite crowded when we arrived but our requested window table with a view of the setting sun was ready right on time. The service was great! And the food was good. We arrived at 7pm and it was hard to find parking anywhere nearby. It was a beautiful Sunday and everyone it seemed was at the beach. It's a great spot for the sunset . In an historic building. The evening was a pleasure."

  • "The views of the ocean from this restaurant are amazing in the daylight. Not much to see after dark. I ordered the bacon wrapped pork loin chop, which was very good. My wife ordered the seafood linguine and said it was boring. We had the house brew sampler and many of the brews were very interesting. The host was very welcoming and helpful, seated us promptly. The waitress was very nice. At times the service was slow, but overall quite good. We felt we received good value for the price."

  • "I love to take out of town guests here after a driving tour of the City. The service and food were very good, Quick delivery of our meals, at one time to, the correct people. We were very well taking care of. The view was extra special as the storm was breaking at sunset. I go more often if we lived closer."

  • "I have eaten here before and felt that food and service were better on those other occasions. Service for lunch was very slow, even though the place was not full. Soup was very good but my salad was very disappointing. They combined arugula, with ricotta cheese and over-ripe pears....then they threw in pepperonchini! Not a good combination. The salad looked wilted and sad. I know this is a touristy place but not a good representation of SF cuisine. Their menu needs changing and some new additions."

  • "All six of us had something different and each dish was mediocre. This place used to be really good. Definitely disappointing. But the service was excellent and the view of the beach and ocean is amazing."

  • "Made reservations for a window for a birthday celebration. Waited 1/2 hour after our reservation because hostess sat people who did not have reservations at the window (apologized she was new). Ordered beers to have them arrive 15 min. later. We tried to get our waitress attention, but she rarely came by as we were way in the corner. Our appetizers arrived even later than the drinks. Before we even had tried the crabcakes and too garlicky mussels, our dinner arrived. Timing and service sucked. Steak was tough; required a steak knife. Cobb salad was fine. Duck was cooked as requested, and presentation was good. If would have been nice to have wine with dinner but our waitress showed up after we started on our dinner to ask."

  • "Having been to the Beach Chalet, I had high expectations and they fell quite flat. The restaurant was out of bread, which is unacceptable in San Francisco. Additionally, the cosmopolitan was not good and had too much citrus. When we asked about it, they never offered to make a different one or replace it with a better drink. The spare ribs appetizer was delicious, but the scallops were a bit fishy and the vegetable pasta was quite bland. I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend or stranger."

  • "The restaurant seemed overwhelmed by the full house on a Monday evening. Even though we had made reservations we had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated and then for a very long time to get our food after ordering. One of the meals at our table was cold and had to be sent back. The server was very friendly although she did seem extremely overworked. Of course the location was the main reason we had booked and the view was great."

  • "This place is right at Ocean Beach and has a parking area. These are the positives.(plus,it is located in an historic WPA project building) My companion had spaghetti carbonara and said it was really sub-par. Another person ordered smoked salmon on a potato pancake. The salmon was tasty, but the pancake was cold and had a cardboard texture. I am a dedicated potato lover, but the potatoes on my salad had a peculiar taste and an unattractive texture. Should have been boiled to retain moisture The caramel chocolate dessert was quite good, but very dense. Could have used a glop of whipped cream to lighten the texture . Service wad adequate but a little slow. I think we would have had more attention had we been a drinking table."

  • "We've been here many times especially when out of town guests are in town. Always an amazing view & great history to the building which doesn't change obviously. Usually the food/drink are great too. This time, unfortunately, the service was practically non-existent (20mins to ask for drink orders, 20mins to have them served AFTER we had to track down wait staff and ask...for example), orders were wrong and when we said something about it, the manager actually tried to argue with us. Tough to say I would never come back as it's such a landmark place but I will be thinking twice about it. I'm hoping it was just an "off" day."

  • "Just good straight forward food at market prices. Parking can be a bit tough on the weekends, but a great place to take family or visitors and then a quick walk over to the beach. Great location and good service. A very popular spot!"

  • "The sunset was magnificent! The food was ok. The service was not ok. It took 20 minutes for anyone to bring us a glass of water. Eventually, the manager came to take our drink order because the waitress was overloaded. That seemed curious because while the restaurant was full, many of the tables in our section were at the end of their meal. I will give our waitress credit for a beautiful smile and earnestness about being sorry for her lack of attention. However, the last straw came at the end when I had to get up from the table and interrupt her from her social time with her fellow servers to remind her that we were waiting for coffee to accompany the dessert."

  • "The main reason I go to Beach Chalet is to enjoy the sunset and it was beautiful, as expected. I wish the menu had more fish options -- after all, the restaurant overlooks the ocean. The halibut was delicious."

  • "Spent the day wandering through golden gate park and ended up at the beach chalet. Great food and attentive service! Wonderful view of the beach below. The beer flight was a great way to try all of their house made beers. Mussel app was a meal in itself and very tasty!"

  • "San Francisco has a winner with The Beach Chalet. It's historical - a WPA Project - overlooking the Pacific Ocean with an eclectic menu. Tourists should be very happy to happen upon this: moderately priced, welcoming (great wait-staff), kid friendly( with something on the menu for everyone), and a brewery to boot.......... place to dine. All ages....I live here and take people to The Beach Chalet all the time. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner....all fun!"

  • "We love coming to the Beach Chalet, and try always to bring our guests here when they visit. The view can't be beat, the food is usually delicious, the brews wonderful, and the staff is professional. The real bonus is the opportunity to visit the fantastic murals and exhibits downstairs--thank you for being part of such a terrific visitor center that gives so much information about the park and its history."

  • "We have been regular customers for a number of years and have had a mix of good and bad experiences. With the recent change of management we had seen some improvement. But on our last sunset visit the food disappointed. The seafood linguine sauce was acidic and needed salt and the pasta was big clumps of noodles stuck together rather than separate. Rather than being brought the usual basket of warm dinner rolls we had to ask for bread and were given a flat paste with four cold and very ordinary dinner rolls. If it wasn't for the sunset view I'm not sure we would return."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner, however, got tired of ordering food to find out later they were out of it. It happened 3 times during our meal. We arrived at 7 pm so how can you be out of mashed potatoes? Finally when they were out of the dessert we ordered we decided to call it a night. All four of us ordered the prime rib medium rare. As far as I could tell not one was at all pink. My idea of medium rare is slightly pink in the center. It was still good, but not the best I have ever had. Also I would suggest investing in better steak knives. They really weren't much more than a table knife and it gives the impression the meat is tough if it is hard to cut with a steak knife."

  • "Went out with a friend to dinner, and had a hankering for a good burger. This is not the place. Burger was served on a spongy hamburger bun that soaked up all the meat juices and disintegrated. Don't like to eat my burger with a knife and fork. The food was mediocre at best. A few fries some pickled onions and some sliced pickles on the plate. Not the best by any means. Have had much better. Oh and one last thing...the bartender does not know how to make a martini. Poured some vodka into a tumbler, and put in a couple of olives...that's not a martini!"

  • "Arrived just at sunset - place was full and hostess told us that we needed to wait 4 minutes until our actual reservation time. Seemed a little nitpicky but that was the only dent in an otherwise wonderful dining experience. All tables in the dining area have a great view of the beach so we were able to see the end of the sunset and beach fires as it got dark. I thought the Caesar Salad was a bit watery, but my dining partner thought it was great with light anchovies instead of the dark ones. Bacon seared scallops were wonderful and the butternut squash risotto was tasty. My partner loved the clam chowder and the fish and chips (garlic fries were available instead of regular fries - yum!)"

  • "I went here with some family visiting from out of town. The food was solid. It's a brew pub and the food fits that genre. The scenery is fantastic. We were there on a clear day and you could see the Farallon Island. If you can go when it's clear, I highly recommend it."

  • "The view of the ocean was gorgeous! Wait staff was super friendly and helpful! Food was nothing special but not bad. The Mimosa I ordered tasted weird, so I sent it back. They were very cool about that even though I drank half of it! The chocolate caramel dessert was just too dense and rich - I never thought I would ever say that about chocolate! Overall, a pleasant experience. The food just needs an upgrade."

  • "We arrived at 11:30 having made reservations and were seated immediately at a lovely window table. It was a bit of a stormy day which made the ocean view even more interesting. The service was fast and friendly, and the food delicious. I had the crab cake, and my companion had the fish and chips and both were well abaove average."

  • "Beach Chalet has been a family favorite brunch spot for many years. However, this last time BC fell short of the mark. One Benedict dish came with hard cooked eggs and the replacement came when the rest of our party had completed their meals. I was very disappointed when not even one cocktail, bignets, or the spoiled meal was complementary. Will be looking for another spot to enjoy crab Benedict in the future. Too bad!"

  • "Went to this restaurant to celebrate my husband b-day.The place was very cozy... as a romantic spot to kids-friendly place and yet the architecture of the building was quite interesting .The food was very delish! just right amount of what your paying for ;-) just being honest. Casual dining with very pleasant servers. And the best part of our dining experienced was the breathtaking view especially in a nice and clear weather. It was one of our favorite dining spot to put on our list from now on."
