  • "Took a friend for birthday brunch. We both enjoyed the ambiance, the view and the food. Waitperson was personable and attentive. We were able to hang out there after completing the meal for an additional 20+ minutes with no interruptions from the wait staff. Would do it again for a special occasion."

  • "Great place for ocean front dining. Great beer, good food."

  • "Salads, salmon and prime rib were great; portions were a nice size--plenty of food Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Relaxed environment overlooking the Pacific; what could be better? Very cool historic building. Great non-alcoholic lemonade drinks that they pour table-side and mix with various homemade berry concentrates. Having the word "brewery" in the name of the restaurant sort of does it a disservice."

  • "Went mostly for the beer but also had lunch. Both beer and food lacked flavor. Food choices are fairly imaginative options that appear to just be poorly executed. All beers were a toned down version if what I would expect, all light on flavor and complexity. Service was also poor; asked 4 times for a complement to an appetizer which we didn't receive until after we are our main dishes, and no water refills were provided."

  • "Pleasantly surprised by the presentation, freshness and quality of our calamari appetizer and short rib and chicken entrees. Unique cocktails as well. Dined late on July 4th and staff had been slammed by lots of tourists and locales during the day. Despite the very busy day, hostess, server and runners were all professional and responsive to our questions and requests. Views of Pacific Ocean and fireworks on the beach topped off the experience."

  • "A friend and I meet here midway between our homes. It's a convenient location, in SF, but easy to park. Last time (2013) was not the best. Food was not good and service lackluster. This time, it was much improved in both categories. Even on a foggy day, the view is spectacular."

  • "We ordered two meals and one was outstanding and the other was inedible. The steak was a little on the raw side (requested charred med-rare) but was truly delicious. The other was a crab salad but there was some sort of 'greens' in the salad that so overpowered the flavor that it was all that could be tasted. The restaurant was very nice about it and offered to replace it and took it off the bill. I hope that, in the future, they will not use this green."

  • "When they 1st opened the food was wonderful, but I feel like they've really gone downhill. We were a party of 5 & only 2 were satisfied. One was served a cold flank steak; another said his hamburger was good. but the bun was stale. My beef shortribs were tough, dry & stringy & the accompanying polenta was a dried out clump. When we complained, they did give us a discount, but we'll probably not go for dinner again. Maybe for drinks & an appetizer to enjoy the view. The food was unsatisfactory on a previous visit, but we thought we'd give it another try in case it was a fluke."

  • "The Beach Chalet hits a consistently relaxed note, with its nice selection of brews, solid menu, and a friendly, roomy bar area. The service is generally cheerful and capable, and the sunsets, while occasionally blinding for a little while depending on the state of the window blinds, are always enjoyable. My wife and I drive across town from Bernal Heights several times a year when we feel like a laid- back evening out."

  • "Always good food and exceptional view! I had the skirt steak and salad. Hum!"

  • "i was overcharged for drinks and didn't catch it until the next day. it was our 40th wedding anniversary and not even a complimentary cupcake with a candle in it!!!!! not a classy move. especially since we were there at 5:00, long before they got busy."

  • "We had a great time and an excellent dinner, especially since we were at the Beach Chalet to celebrate a birthday. We also ordered cocktails and a beer flight, which was a fun way to start. My only "complaint" is that we were especially looking forward to having an ocean view. We had requested a table by the window so we could look out, which we got, but the shades kept going up and down and were mostly down, so we lost the view, which was very disappointing. The server explained to us that the shades are on an automatic timer and go up and down periodically to prevent the restaurant from getting too hot inside and having a "greenhouse" effect, since there's no air conditioning. So we ended up going to the Cliff House for dessert."

  • "Crab benedict was disappointing. My son loved his fish & chips. I advise not ordering anything too fancy -- keep to the basics and you'll be fine"

  • "The view is wonderful and the atmosphere pleasant. Of our 7 people, the best comment was that the food was "OK." Nothing was great and some dishes were poor. How do you make bad french toast? By soaking it in the egg mix for so short a time that only the bread was completely dry inside with only a thin french toast coating. Salads were fresh and OK. Benedict was average. Service was OK."

  • "An ocean-view alternate to the Cliff House. Better food and more modern interior but a little noisy. Prices okay for the setting and food quality."

  • "The experience with the restaurant was very exciting. The view and food was certainly great and the choices were perfect. One thing that I would recommend would be that the servers improve on their system of maintaining consistent service woth their tables."

  • "Having previously enjoyed a happy hour there, I made a point of confirming by phone that their happy hours were 3-6pm, and made a dinner reservation for 5 pm. When we arrived we were not given any indication that happy hour was happening and instead were given the full price dinner menu. While the Pear salad was quite good, the hamburger was quite overcooked when received (asked for medium) and fries were far from hot. Probably not worth a repeat"

  • "It was a beautiful day at the Beach on Friday - so the place was hopping. It almost seemed like they were missing a wait staff as our waiter while excellent seemed very busy. There was a wedding reception going on - and it's possible they didn't staff that correctly. But all in all - another wonderful experience at the Beach Chalet."

  • "I brought sophisticated New Yorkers here- we had a window seat and watched the sun go down as we enjoyed a good dinner. The wait staff were attentive but not intrusive. The varied menu had something for everyone--we all had different choices which were uniformly good. The parking was easy and we all thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. We were not rushed out and stayed for a full 3 hours. I would not he's totals to recommend this restaurant. We'll be back."

  • "There are very few restaurants with as nice of a view in San Francisco. The Pacific Ocean is literally right outside the window. Being that San Francisco isn't a warm weather destination, you kind of forget about ocean views and the water, but Beach Chalet brings it all to the front and center. It is really nice to just sit and watch the ocean, and if you're lucky enough to catch the sunset, major bonus! Now, the most important part of any restaurant is the food. And Beach Chalet delivers there as well. They are one of the truly "nice" restaurants in the city that invitingly accommodate families and their children. A fog covered gem."

  • "Interestingly enough 3 of the guests who are S.F. natives had never been there before so it was fun to be able to find a restaurant that was a new experience for them (them all being in the 70's). We had a great time and since everyone had fish and chips the food review was very good."

  • "We had the quail, the salmon pinwheel and the scallops. All were delicious. Dessert was a shared caramel bomb and a creme brulee and between 3 of us we had to take most of the desserts home as they were so very rich, but excellent. It was a bit noisy to carry on a conversation, though. We kept having to repeat ourselves and got a bit annoyed at that. Service was terrific, however and we loved the look of the place, the history and the location on the beach was lovely. We were recommended here by friends and would certainly do the same for other friends."

  • "i've always wanted to try these whenever i passed by. now i finally get to try it. reservations, was fast through "open table." i put a note that i wanted a window seat and they did give me a window seat. however, it was a hot day, so when the sun shine through the window and it made me felt hotter. not only that, some of the food were pretty spicy to me as well. If they would have turn the ac or fan on then it would be great. The service, they were excellent. the waitress come pretty often to check on us and she always have that incredible smile with her."

  • "My son and his girlfriend came for a visit, and this was my first choice. The food was great except my Eggs Bentidict, the eggs were over cooked that was the only problem. Great View, Great service. We went on a Friday for lunch/breakfast and it quiet real pleasant!"

  • "I was surprised by the quality of food I found a Beach Chalet. We went when family was in town visiting because they'd noticed its lovely ocean view location when we drove by. I had always assumed that it was the view that kept it open, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was fantastic as well - particularly the short rib. Don't write this off as a tourist trap! It's a quality experience all around, from the service to the view to the food to the decor."

  • "If I could put multiple checks on "scenic view", I would...no better treat that having lunch and looking at the ocean! all of us were pleased with what we ordered and the service was very good. They had changed the menu since the last time I was there. but I think for the better. Plenty of choices, including a special sandwich of the day. Definitely an enjoyable lunch spot (and plentiful parking)."

  • "Great venue, but overshadowed by terribly slow service and so-so food. We arrived at 6:45 for a 7:00 reservation and didn't finish dinner (no dessert) at 10:00 pm."

  • "We were hosting out of town guests and wanted a placed near the beach. We have been to the Beach Chalet many times, we live in Santa Rosa. I requested a window table and when we arrived on time the table was waiting. Although we were "tourists" many of the tables were occupied by locals. Cocktails, food and service were superior and everyone was impressed."
