Diner Reviews
  • "The food was, as always, exceptional! The Gluten-Free menu is an added bonus. Would highly recommend. Wish they were located in downtown McLean!!! (would be closer for me) :-)"

  • "Once again our small party was treated to an excellent meal at Bazin's! The very loud group of women seated immediately next to us was obviously having a very nice time too. Excellent well-made cocktails, an outstanding appetizer of fried oysters over spinach and some very nice fish specials made our evening memorable. The food never disappoints, and the wait staff is knowledgeable and courteous A fun place to dine out, but it is a bit noisy"

  • "We have been here many times, and although it's great for any meal, we particularly like it for Sunday brunch. Great menu, super wine/champagne list (well it's practically a book), and something for everyone. It's a keeper!"

  • "Waiter was awesome - food was beautiful & delicious. Could not ask for anything more."

  • "This is a great restaurant in Vienna, VA - great vibe, delicious food and we never feel rushed. Definitely make reservations ahead of time as tables fill up fast!"

  • "I love this restaurant and it's menu BUT it is too loud. They installed sound baffles then at 8pm they cranked up the music in the fine dining room and we had to yell across the table to be heard. Not a pleasant experience."

  • "This was our first time at Bazin's On Church. My son and my husband took me there for my birthday. We ordered scallops, crab cakes and a filet. Everything was delicious. We shared a shrimp appetizer and 2 desserts. The Key Lime pie was excellent. We will go back."

  • "We had rockfish with a crust of mushrooms served over Parmesan orzo that was a special that evening. It was excellent. The service was attentive but not overbearing. I will definitely be back."

  • "Hadn't been to Bazin's in the four years since I moved from Northern VA. I was hoping it was still as good as I remembered it and it was excellent! Worthy of my son's 25th birthday celebration. The service was excellent, the food outstanding and the casual but energetic ambience brings it all together for a thoroughly enjoyable evening."

  • "Nice variety, interesting recipes, best for seafood; vegetarian choices somewhat limited but delicious"

  • "Everyone is fantastic at Bazins; always friendly and very knowledgeable. Our meals have always been soooo delicious! Unfortunately, not the case at our last visit. The sea bass and short rib plates were much too rich, possibly too much salt/horseradish. Also, the mushroom appetizer was too creamy. Though, we loved all the desserts, oyster appetizer, steak, and scallop meals."

  • "I could not check some of the items because I checked only the items with which I am familiar. I look forward to returning to Bazin's."

  • "Bazin's is like a really nice pair of Italian slip-on loafers. It's fancy enough to go with pretty much anything shy of a tuxedo, but casual enough to wear with jeans now and then. Bazin's is all about the food, not the image or the pretense. Everything tasted fresh, was delicious, and was plated nicely. The wine list is really nice, too."

  • "We always enjoy the food & service at Bazin's. A lot of thought goes into the preparation of the food & we enjoy it all!"

  • "What a find on historic Church Street. Great food and wine, relaxed atmosphere, great for any occasion and families. I love the shrimp and grits, but just had the seared scallops and they were also excellent. Nice varied menu with something for everyone. The beet salad is always good as in the Bazin's salad. Husband likes the lump crabmeat spring roll and the salted caramel tart is a lovely way to end a meal."

  • "In spite of the high noise level, it's always a great dining experience and enjoyable evening."

  • "The risotto and butternut squash had no taste. The Wolfish was was pretty tasty and seasoned weell but was over risotto which was bland. The flounder stuffed with crab meat was not warm enough, very bland, and served over mashed potatoes which did not match well with the fish and tomato sauce. The crab and corn chowder was again, bland. The dessert was the best part.....salted carmel tart with chocolate ice cream.....that was yummy. This restaurant doesn't offer anything special for birthdays other than a candle in the dessert. The restaurant was cold and the waiters, while attentive, tended to "hover." They wanted to get you in...and out...quickly."

  • "This was my third time to Bazin's. Had lunch with a friend. She had the Shrimp Salad and I had the Shrimp BLT. Both were terrific. We shared the salted caramel tort for dessert which was yummy. Our server was great - did not rush us and the atmosphere was very relaxing. We'll be back!"

  • "My salmon was quite over cooked. Yes, I should have sent it back. Seems like a fairly simple entree. My husband enjoyed the filet mignon. He'd dine here again; I wouldn't."

  • "As always, the service was stellar, food superior, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The new menu provides for many of our old favorites, along with enough new fare to keep things fresh. Can't wait for Bazin's Next Door to open!"

  • "I loved this restaurant when it first opened, and enjoyed several creative and well-prepared dinners. Then, after a long hiatus, I returned for a week-night dinner in February. Frankly, I was disappointed. While good, it wasn't exceptional--which is what I expected from my earlier visits. The salad was OK... nothing that one couldn't get in just about any competent establishment, though. My steak and sauce were fine. But the garlic-herb french fries were poorly executed. The wine list remains outstanding. But could benefit from a wider selection of Rhones and Spanish reds. Service was very responsive. (I'm sure they would have fixed my side-dish if I had sent it back, but I chose not to since this was a business dinner.)"

  • "Went there with the family on Friday night. Made a reservation ahead of time and we were greeted and seated quickly. The location and ambience is fantastic. The feel of the place was very warm and inviting and despite being open wasn't crazy loud despite a Friday night. The wine list was very good and our server was prompt, knowledgable and efficient. Despite all these really great things the food, or at least the steak and fish dish we ordered were really just fair, especially for being $30+ a plate. That's what makes this review hard is that there wasn't anything to particularly complain about, it just wasn't great. Sorry, probably not fair to a restaurant to review it like that."

  • "The wine list is rather extensive - which is a good thing. Our server, Mark helped us make a selection. He was also excellent, funny, and down-to-earth. We both ordered off the daily special list, however they were out of the steak special. I had the pork tenderloin special and it was fantastic. The sweet potato puree was like dessert with a hint of vanilla. Speaking of dessert, the restaurant must get their desserts from offsite because it did not compare to the entree."

  • "We visited for brunch on a Sunday and were glad we had the earliest reservation time for the day. The restaurant fills up pretty quickly! The food is great - delicious, but not pretentious. Perfect for a weekend brunch. They also frequently have local musicians playing background music, which is a nice touch. The dining room is small and cozy, giving a very welcoming and neighbourhood-ish feel. We've been to Bazin's several times, and will certainly be back."

  • "The brunch menu was awesome! This restaurant is one of our favorites, and Vienna is lucky to have it. Bazins has made great strides over the years in getting the noise level down to where a table can have a quiet conversation. But watch out for additional entertainment. They had lovely but very loud jazz the other day, which made our table of 7 have to shout to each other except for during the musicians' breaks."

  • "Made a reservation for an anniversary dinner for two at 6:30. We arrived ten minutes early and were seated immediately next to the window. We were very close to the next table, and it just felt like we didn't have much room. We ordered a bottle of wine and the crab meat spring roll to start. Everything about this appetizer was great. For dinner, we opted for the Surf and Turf special they had that night which was Ribeye, crab cake, potatoes au gratin, green beans, and broccolini-whoa the food just didn't stop. Everything turned out wonderful. We even decided to get the dessert special of the night which was a chocolate peanut butter mousse cake and a raspberry ice cream. Yum!"

  • "Bazin was recommended by a friend. It was perfect. The menu is thorough and creative. We were there with another couple and felt a little rushed with our cocktails to order and move on to dinner. Once we made it clear to the waiter, the pressure disappeared, thankfully. Aside from the the high noice level sure to all the hard surfaces, we plan to return."

  • "We never actually order a full-on dinner. I would consider us more as appetizer noshers. We had a nice variety of their flavors with the avocado/crab salad, crispy oysters, chicken liver pate and crabmeat spring roll. All of the flavors were very well orchestrated. The spring roll had the most wonderful coleslaw and the bright creamed spinach supporting the crispy oysters was sopped up with all the efficiency we could muster. We finished with a salted caramel tart that was a bit heavy on the chocolate side. The crust and caramel had a small amount of chocolate and it was served with a chocolate ice cream. I think it would have been more delicious if non-chocofied, but that is a personal thing. I tend to believe that chocolate is overrated."

  • "My wife and I went to Bazins for a Valentine's diner. As always the service was exquisite as was the food. Their signature salad was not on the menu that day, nor was my favorite Flatiron Steak. I asked the waitress if it was possible to have the usual salad instead of the one on the menu. She quickly went into the kitchen and came back smiling to tell me that it would not be a problem. There was another steak available on the menu that day, so I chose that one for my entrée. I did feel that there were too many seafood choices on the menu this time. As I do not eat seafood, I felt the choices to be very limited. The overall experience was outstanding."

  • "Our party of five was celebrating a retirement. We sat at a round table that was conducive to conversation. Restaurant wasn't terribly crowded which helped keep the noise levels down. As a group of 60+ individuals, it is getting difficult to hear in noisy restaurants, but this wasn't the case. Food was delicious and service was excellent. For those in/near Vienna, Bazin's is a great choice."

  • "My husband invited our dear friends and neighbors to join us for my birthday celebration and he chose Bazin's 'out of a hat' not realizing that this iw our neighbors' FAVORITE restaurant. After a few drinks at the bar, we were seated and enjoyed our meals prepared to absolute perfection. Our waitress was outstanding! We now agree that Bazin's is OUR favorite restaunt, so we will plan to return soon."

  • "Met a friend for lunch & we each enjoyed their signature crab/shrimp spring roll which is fabulous! It's served over a coleslaw type salad that has the most awesome dressing.I ordered mustard crusted salmon salad & my friend had portabello mushroom dish. Both were delicious & filling. We even indulged in dessert- my friend had the chocolate tart & I had the salted caramel treat (they each come with a small scoop of ice cream). The food & service are consistently excellent at Bazins. My only complaint is that the room temp is always a bit chilly & I wish they wouldn't toast the bread as much as they do. But overall the food rates outstanding as does the service, so that compensates for chilly air & harder than I care for bread!"

  • "Basin's never disappoints. We eat there at least once every 2 weeks and we always have something new to try from the seasonal changes in the menu or from the specials. Patrick's forte is sauces and whatever one he has accompany a dish enhances the wow factor. Every recipe is made of fresh ingredients that complement each other in every bite. Vienna is so lucky to have Basin's as its neighborhood gem!"
