A word from Bazaar - Global Food Bar
Bazaar Global Food Bar is the newest venture for the Amaya Group of Restaurants. The menu aims to combine the ingredient specificity of global flavours with the culinary finesse of casual fine dining, building recipes around fresh and seasonal produce, but using a number of classical culinary techniques as well. The vibrant and energetic main dining room has soaringly high ceilings and reclaimed wood - using the natural elements of the the building. Towards the back, a smaller private is sleek and private.

We were a party of 4 celebrating a birthday, all first timers. The restaurant was nice and the staff very attentive, but the food was not great. We enjoyed the cauliflower appetizer, but all 4 of us thought our mains were only fair. They were pad thai, yogic feast (an eggplant dish that was VERY greasy), butter chicken pizza and sichuan noodles.

The service and food quality were excellent. Menu choices were very interesting and each dish was prepared with care. The wine prices are on the high side; if these were a bit lower, it would be good and more in keeping with the food prices.

Blueberry pancakes were sparse on blueberry and had an odd flavour--maybe vanilla? Othersise they were OK. The coffee was so-so and took a very long time to arrive (when it was for brunch). The hot milk that was to be consumed by a child was hotter than the milk in my latte.

Liked the idea of the 'global' menu but not sure that the approach works. That said, everyone thought the food was ok (duck was a little dry, salmon was cooked well but think the black bean topping might have been burnt). We closed the restaurant down at 10:30pm and felt like we had to rush out as we were the last table.

The food is creative, flavourful, and easy to enjoy. The service is friendly, if slightly unpolished. The atmosphere is casual and kid-friendly, which on this visit was the problem. Even though we were dining early (6:00 pm) on a Friday, in a family friendly neighbourhood, you would still prefer that there not be kids wandering among the tables or screaming inconsolably upstairs. If I'm having a beer at the Longest Yard, I might expect that kind of noise and disruption, but for dinner at a place with really interesting food, it was disappointing.

Friendly service and great portions. Food is delicious and the restaurant try to put it's own spin on regular dishes. The flavors are good, and everything on the plate combine into delicious harmony. The meats are taste, but the signature flavor of the meat are over powered by other ingredients, so we had a hard time telling if we were having duck or pork. Will go again for the interesting food. Go with a group, the portion size is really generous. Great for sharing!

We always enjoy dinners here and the daily specials are a welcome bonus... especially when it comes to 1/2 price wine or even BYOW with no corkage fee... Our faves! The food is wonderfully flavourful but not over-spiced and portions are generous. What more can we ask for in a neighbourhood restaurant?

  • I celebrated my birthday here

I celebrated my birthday here with 7 fmaily members of various ages and our main goal was to find a place that catered to all tastes, from picky to adventurous. Happy to announce: Mission Accomplished. From the shrimp curry to the BBQ duck to the butter chicken to the plain pizza, it was all fresh and flavourful. The app portions were very generous, which didn't leave much room for the mains, but that just meant we got to enjoy the leftovers at home. The service was friendly and fast (it was early dinner on Sunday, so the place wasn't full). My only quibble would be the tv blaring sports - I have a pet peeve against TVs in restaurants - I find them a distracting atmosphere killer. Otherwise an enjoyable outing!

I had a casual birthday dinner here in September. This place is very affordable yet the food is quite good. Order the tacos (chicken, duck, or beef-or a combo of all three!). We ordered appetizers for the table and the cauliflower dish was delicious, the duck spring rolls are amazing, and the onion rings are enough to make you salivate. Also, they have great drink specials (1/2 price selected wine on Wednesday, no corkage Thursdays, $5 martinis on Fridays...) We had a group of about 14 ladies. It wasn't a busy night so we were sat in the main part of the restaurant but had it been busier, there is an upstairs private area which would be great for a much larger group (of 20 or more)

    Dined on 8/24/2012
I ordered the butter chicken pizza. It came before we had finished our appetizers so there was hardly any room on the table for the large plate. The crust was not cooked enough so I asked the waitress to have the chef put it back in the oven for a few minutes. Fifteen minutes later my husband's main course and a new pizza arrived at the same time. Had I eaten the first pizza I would have eaten alone and then had to watch as he had his dinner. This is unacceptable.

Nice shrimp curry (generous amount of large shrimp done reasonably well) and decent tomato sauce shrimp linguine. Garden salad was fine. Cauliflour hakka dish was over greasy and hard to distinguish which was caul vs. potato. Kid's milk shake was very late in coming while adult's came quickly--odd. The food took quite a bit of time to come out.

Because we have in the past enjoyed Amaya Bread Bar, Amaya, Amaya Express on Bayview and Amaya in First Canadian Place food court, we purchased an online coupon for Bazaar Global, which we understand is owned by the same people. Unfortunately, our experience was not great. We very much enjoyed the look and feel of the restaurant. The food generally was over-salted and the chicken dish was overcooked. We will continue to enjoy the Amaya Indian type restaurants, but would not return to Bazaar Global.

We are loving Bazaar Global Food Bar! Great food and excellent service. The flavours are a fusion of Indian and I don't know what. I love that it has the wonderful flavours but they are not overdone. Perhaps from another region? They also have daily specials that can't be beat. Thursdays BYOW no corkage fee. Can't beat it! Consider it our regular Thursday night : ) This spot has changed hands many times but Bazaar is positioned for the long run.

Global Food Bar is a very pleasant surprise. The servers were attentive. We immensely enjoyed the unique combinations of food in the 3 dishes we tasted. The chicken salad was abundant with slices of avocado large chunks of a lightly curried chicken and topped with feta cheese. A wonderful change from a greek salad. The steak was served in strips on a layer of oh so crispy coated fries which were on a bed of sautéed chunks of onion and red and green peppers. It arrived sizzling on cast iron. My salmon was served over rice with a black bean sauce which was a bit too sweet but very tasty. There was also a drizzle on the rice of a creamy zesty sauce. We will return to try other dishes from this creative chef who is wonderfully bold with flavour

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

Eclcetic menu - great way to experience many global cuisines in one place. Downfall is that the delivery of meals to our table was very staggered - 'one by one' with time in between - leaving a long gap until the 'group' can politely start eating as a 'group'. That being said, may be better for VERY small groups (e.g. 2 to 3 people) or a table 'sharing' all items and not ordering their own individual meals.

Visited Bazaar on a friend's recommendation and was not disappointed. This new restaurant in the Yonge/Eg area is sure to be a hot spot. It is a new venture of the owners of Amaya Bread Bar so it fuses Indian cuisine with Western comfort foods. Must try dishes are the Tower of Rings, Manchurian Cauliflower, Lamb Lollipops and Tandoori Chicken Pizza. The nutella pizza is also a great dessert! Friendly attentive service and a cool ambiance make this place a must try!

This restaurant is still working out some kinks. The service was inconsistent - at times very fast, at other times very slow. The menu features an Indian twist on American favourites. There is a also a specialty for each month, which the chef has had special training in. In April, the special is tacos. May will be pitas with Israeli flavours. Our waiter was quite knowledgeable about the menu.

The food was mediocre. We ordered the Korean bolgogi tacos which were way too sweet (I'm a huge fan of Korean food - big disappointment). I ordered the pho ga which did not taste like pho ga at all and came to the table warm (not hot). The chicken in the soup had a funny texture. My boyfriend ordered the sixteen spic chicken and opted for rice instead of potatoes. He enjoyed the rice much more than the chicken. We ordered two drinks - the pear martini and the special of the day which was some sort of mango and strawberry concoction. It was tasty but there was zero liquor in it and definitely not worth $11. I was excited to try this place but it did not come even close to meeting my expectations. Not worth $75
