Award-winning Executive Chef Paul Gstrein brings culinary drama to his inventive dishes for lunch, dinner and the enormously popular Champagne Sunday Brunch.   • "Enjoyed my meal at Bayside with my parents and daughter on Saturday. As for the quick review of my own meal..... The cocktail, wedge salad and even the rolls were perfect. And it is great that you can order by the glass, some west coast reds that would never be available on the east coast. Only dissapointment was that my order of their signature "mushroom crusted Pacific Halibut" was not quite what I expected. It is in no way "crusted", with the elements of flavor that a crust implies....more accurately, it is dusted....with mushrooms. So the dish was milder and even a bit blander than I was hoping. Had the dish been more accuratly named, I would have not ordered it. "

We went early, which helped. Everyone was happy with their food choice, the wine was good and our waiter was pleasant and prompt. We were happy with our choice and will return."

  • "Waited too long(25 minutes) after our reservation time , slow to refill sodas, champagne, boring salads. Main courses and desserts were fabulous. Steak sandwich was the star of the day! Swordfish was wonderful. Shrimp and green risotto great as well, carbonara pretty good. Went on a nonevent Sunday, service spotty even with empty tables. Food so well prepared it almost didn't matter."

  • "The food is a little pricey, but excellent. The service is wonderful too. I enjoyed the live piano music during dinner, but we were seated near the pianist so it was kind of loud. The ambience is very nice, and it good weather, it will be nice to dine outside on the patio. You can see a little bit of a waterway that leads to the harbor from the patio."

  • "Great place for brunch! Took out of town family for brunch including bottomless mimosas!!! Great food. The service was alright...they did a great job keeping the glasses full but the food service was quite slow. Had kids with us and they were starving by the time we got our food....it took almost an hour for good to come out. Ambiance was great with live music! I would do it again!!! Location is perfect....right at balboa Island so we were able to walk it all off afterwards."

  • "I took my husband to Bayside for his birthday on a Monday evening. The entire experience was perfect. The menu was unique, the food excellent, and the staff were appropriately attentive. The piano player was what really made the evening special. I never expected live entertainment on a Monday, and this musician surprised and delighted us. The sound level was just right so we were able to carry on a conversation while enjoying background entertainment. We will return to Bayside again soon!"

Hostess took time to 'look up' & acknowledge us- too busy w/paper work, after being seated, server passed us 3 times before acknowledging us (early dining pre-theater- restaurant not busy). Another server noticed us being neglected & actually brought us menus/wine list. Our server finally approached w/attitude. When inquired about specials, she seemed completely put out. She spent more time polishing silverware at adjacent table. Meal was average, sadly nothing special. Was never offered pepper, condiments, more wine or checked to see if needed anything else until dropped off desert menu. Great service makes up for sub-par food to a point, unfortunately, poor service just puts damper on entire experience."

The food was perfectly prepared. Nice selections of wine by the glass, they have splits too. Very flavorful, will be back."

  • "My wife and I have eaten here twice in the last 6 months. Food was excellent both times - amazing venison! Service was brilliant the first time (a good part of what made us want to return) and so-so second time. We felt the receptionist and maître d' both "neglected" us on our second visit (we had a reservation, but arrived early, went to the bar to pass a few minutes and then had to circle back with the receptionist to make sure we got our table instead of her looking for us to tell us our table was ready; the maître d' seemed detached (huge contrast with the first visit)...we had to ask for water, had to ask for bread (twice) and he was a bit quick with the bill). Anyway, the experience was not so bad as to deter us from going back!"

  • "Heard about this restaurant but never found myself there until last weekend. First of all, the restaurant overlooks the shores of the Balboa Bay, with views of the majestic homes and boats parked on the channel. The ambiance is like the finest restaurants I've been to in Italy, France, and the oceanside restaurants in Hawaii. The menu is broad enough to make anybody happy. Our entrees were great. Winelist is extensive but tends to the very expensive side. Will go back."

  • "We have known about Bayside for quite some time, but this was the first time we actually dined there. I was impressed with the fixed menu they were offering for Valentine's Day- not only was it extremely reasonable compared to the pricing of other restaurants, but it offered a lot of options. They also only have a $15 corkage fee even on holidays, so we were able to bring a bottle of wine we had been saving. Although it was very crowded when we got there, we were seated almost immediately. Our server was very attentive, and we didn't feel like she was stretched as thin as she probably was. The food portions were huge & we ended up taking our dessert to go. Really enjoyed our time and are looking forward to returning for their brunch."

  • "My Fiance is a hopeless romantic who has a large appetite for Seafood and Steaks. What caught my attention was the advertisement picture of the restaurant which displayed high end vehicles. I knew this place was fancy! Anyways when we arrived the place was alive, with dimmed lights and live jazz. We ordered two cocktails while we waited and spent about $23. Once seated, we ordered 2 appetizer; tartar of sashimi grade yellowfin tuna and Bresaola Carpaccio both were outstanding! For course meal we; Oven roasted rack of lamb and I had Black Angus fillet mignon. We also had dessert, it was good but not omg delicious. I will definitely return :) Spent about $200. 00 not bad!"

  • "My wife and I enjoy a good splurge now and then and Bayside fit the bill($$$) and was worth it. Valentine's Day featured a prix fixe meal for $65 pp, we added a starter - "charcoal" Lobster Roll (xlnt). My choice was Crab Cake, swordfish. my wife had a greens salad and sea bass - all were fantastic. Desserts (chocolate tart w/ raspberries and a vanilla pound cake. We'd return without hesitation"

  • "We love the Bayside Sunday brunch. We were seated promptly by the window where we had requested. Our waitress was very nice with a great attitude and good sense of humor. The service and the food were very good. She never missed a beat refilling our champagne flutes. My one request would have been that they had not seated us right beside a large group of women celebrating a birthday. The noise level was understandably off the chart because of this fun loving group and we found we had to talk over them. Next time we'll know better and ask to be moved."

  • "The space is great, the food delicious, would be happy to adopt our server, Vanessa. But the dour hostess was so rude we almost left before we started. Avoid her by just going to the bar side of the restaurant where reservations aren't needed. The food was delicious -- don't miss the lobster mashed potatoes!"

  • "When restaurants seat patrons with reservations first at tables that should be filled only when all the better tables are full, the message is that you only are filling space. Although we got up and "helped ourselves" to a better table, I cannot fathom what were the qualities of the table next to the patio door, the one next to the coffee station and directly under the heater so that one seat was too hot while other too cold (sounds like a Goldilocks experience) that were considered in seating me and my wife there for dinner on her birthday. Our server was great, with good suggestions for wines and quite attentive. The prix fixe dinner at $55 was excellent, as was the "Restaurant Week" special. I almost forgot the seating faux pax. Almost."
