Diner Reviews
  • "Bayona is an amazing gem of a restaurant with terrific food -- savouring every bite. Flavours are outstanding and well thought out, cooked to perfection. New Orleans is filled with amazing food -- and Bayona ranks right up there. The atmosphere was quiet and pleasant--making it easy to hear your friends; although it was also easy to hear conversations at other nearby tables (so don't expect a great deal of privacy)."

  • "Food and service were outstanding. The Portion sizes were modest and perfect to enjoy an entire multicourse meal with room for dessert!"

  • "Very pricey and the food wasn't worth the money. I can appreciate they have a different selection than most but it wasn't worth the money and you leave still feeling hungry."

  • "This was a second visit for me and my husband. We truly love this place. It can be hard to be seated quickly and you have to wait outside because the space is limited. I strongly suggest making a reservation. The food is amazing, especially the egg pie. My husband loved the spaghetti. The service is amazing as well."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a superb dinner at Bayona. Everything was perfect! We were there during the Julia Child Birthday weekend, and the dishes we chose were divine! We enjoyed the Duck and Lentil Soup and the Tomato Tart and both were delicious! Our entrees were delicious as well. It was a memorable meal! Service was excellent!"

  • "Bayona is a local gem that plays on a world stage. It's a perfect place for many reasons. Susan is not one of those over the top, wear me down "celebrity chefs". This is the rare, real deal. Go for the real experience."

  • "Delicious and romantic. It's a beautiful restaurant with polished service. The star of the show---rightly---is Chef Susan Spicer's take on Mediterranean cuisine. At once classic and creative, she shapes the past with a new vision. Her dishes are savory, thoughtful, and long on flavor. The experience is refined and will please any gourmet. Do not miss the veal sweetbreads (best in the city!) or garlic soup (one for the ages)."

  • "We don't usually go to the Quarter much to dine (too many great restaurants Uptown where we live) but decided to venture in on a pleasant day. We hadn't been to Bayona since right after The Storm, so it was almost new to us. Food was better than expected, and the sweetbreads are perhaps the best in town. Will definitely go back..."

  • "New Orleans has to rank high in the number of restaurants that serve great meals. Bayona, on a Monday evening, served my wife and I one of the finest we have had in the city."

  • "The food and service here was excellent. The waitstaff seemed very knowledgable about food, and the kitchen was on their game. Easily one of the best meals I've had."

  • "I had dinner here twice in my past New Orleans visits but this time I wasn't impressed. Food was just ok, service not so great. I brag about my past dining experienced, disappointed this last time."

  • "Have dined at Bayona many times and always go back. They prepare the best sweetbreads I've had anywhere. You can't go wrong with any of your selections. The eggplant and olive tapenade were excellent. BBQ shrimp were great although I don't care to shell them. Did not have the garlic soup this time but have had it in the past and is always a treat."

  • "I ordered a salad appetizer, which was okay, but had a dressing so strongly flavored I couldn't taste the greens. My scallops were also just okay because they were oversalted. There were only three on the plate, along with three slices of potato, sliced as thinly as potato chips. Given the size of the portions, it occurred to me that Bayona may be the only restaurant in all of New Orleans that does not offer bread to its diners. The dessert -- dark chocolate ice cream -- was good. Service was not: although two servers were taking care of us, neither bothered to clear dirty plates until everyone was finished. One of us was a slow eater so the other two were left sitting with dirty plates for a long time indeed."

  • "Bayona serves up some of the most amazing flavors, and is one of the top flavor experiences that I have had. The meal began with some wonderfully marinated olives and delicious bread. For appetizers, the smoked quail is superbly cooked and served with pecans and a balsamic drizzle, and the miso eggplant dish was full of flavor. The duck main course, with pieces of meat and a duck-filled tamale was beautifully cooked, with a roasted tomatillo and a mole sauce. We had an excellent Bordeaux wine that was very reasonably priced. The service was excellent, with both waiters very knowledgeable about the food and wines. The atmosphere was very comfortable. A beautiful space, in a beautiful part of the French Quarter."

  • "Celebrating its 26th year, Bayona offers as consistently fine a dining experience today as it did when it first opened. Wonderful bargains are to be had during the heat of New Orleans Summer months providing diners the opportunity to taste the offerings of fabulous Chef Susan Spicer at excellent prices. Go for lunch and enjoy three courses and martinis at anniversary prices. Go in the evening and enjoy the art scene and cocktails in the courtyard and stay for a memorable dinner."

  • "Bayona was highly recommended by a friend of mine and I'm sorry to say I was a little disappointed in the experience. The food was good, no doubt, but I also felt like it was something I could make at home. The service was not bad - just not great. Overall, it was so-so and for a restaurant city like New Orleans, I expected more."

  • "Location is great if you are intetested in being in the French Quarter. The service felt fake and overly pretentious, but without the actual service and attention to back it up. It was actually quite laughable. Our lead server felt like he didn't want to be there, and his assistant was so over the top wannabe high brow it was humorous. All of that and my friend and I were left with unanswered menu questions and slow service. I have dined at many fine dining establishments all over the world, and I am fine with getting high level attitude if it matches the attentiveness and food quality, however, this did not. Food was ok, nothing special. Overall, I feel there are much better places to dine in New Orleans, pass on Bayona."

  • "The food was delicious, however, there was too much time between appetizers and main course. We will go again but would like a little quicker service."

  • "Cannot recall a more sumptuous meal this lifetime. The service was impeccable with super explanation of all aspects of food and drink. The upstairs wine room was quiet and welcoming. The wine, salad, main course, and dessert each had exceptional taste and distinctive flavor. Wonderful evening at a wonderful place. We will be back."

  • "It is nice to see that Bayona still has wonderful service and great food. We haven't been there in a few years and it was still as we remember. The kitchen was running slow that night but when we did receive our food, it was great."

  • "This was our third time here. First time about 5 years ago was amazing. Second time 3 years ago wasn't as good but still great. This time was horrible. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. Soups were bland and not hot. Apps were ok. And entrees had little flavor. So disappointed. We won't go back again."
