Diner Reviews
  • "We were happy to see the Louisiana State Police on patrol as we walked to the restaurant. The food was exquisite. The seasonings and sauces were flavorful but did not overwhelm the vegetables or the entree."

  • "Susan Spicer is always at the top of her game at her home restaurant. 24 years and counting."

  • "our visit to Bayona was excellent! The wait staff very friendly and went out of their way to make suggestions and make us feel welcome! We will be back again very soon!"

  • "The 24 anniversary menu was a disappointment. We were unaware of the special menu when we booked our table for lunch. It was not what we wanted but had no other options to order, it was very obvious all of the items had been trimmed down to fit the "$24 3 course 24th anniversary menu". We did not go for the 3 course deal, instead we ordered several different items, but the preparation and execution of we ordered was poor at best. The only acceptable item was the watermelon salad. It also took almost 3 hours for us to get the appetizer, salad, and entrée, and over 30 minutes before our order was taken. Only 2 servers were working, and only one was taking orders for the entire dinning room, while the other only took care of drinks and plates."

  • "Bayona is our absolute favorite restaurant in New Orleans. Everything is always just right from amazing cocktails through to the deliciously decadent desserts. Entrees are well thought out and beautifully executed. Service and attention to detail are spot on."

  • "Had lunch here with some friends from high school and we all enjoyed the whole experience. I was so happy that my friends tried the Duck peanut butter and jelly sandwich, it is such an amazing sandwich. We especially enjoy the summertime specials which include .24 cent Martini's. Great day, great lunch, great food. Thank you Bayona and staff."

  • "Susan Spicer has been at it awhile but she hasn't lost her touch. Bayona stills shines as a bright star in the French Quarter."

  • "Love the 3-course price - makes it affordable for a local. Great place for both lunch and dinner. Food always delicious. Service Excellent - professional and friendly. Will continue to support this restaurant. Drawback - tables seem too close together - difficult to have a private conversation and honestly not interested in the conversation at the next table."

  • "Our lunch was a great way to experience the flavors of Bayona at a reasonable price. $24 for 3 courses and 25-cent drinks can't be beat. The food is great and service was superb."

  • "Bayona used to stand alone but the food scene is so strong today it feels a bit dated. Food is still good, but nothing special. The Garden was closed due to rain when we were there so was not able to sit outside, which a recall was quite wonderful."

  • "I was happy to get a reservation to dine at this wonderful restaurant again. The waiter was personable and professional, a real pro. The rest of the staff was responsive and helpful. I could see the diners were tourist and locals which is always a nice mix. I will definitely try to dine here again if I am ever back in New Orleans."

  • "The food here is very good, but I'm not sure it's worth waiting an hour for. That's how long it took from our arrival to serving our entrees (we didn't order starters.) And we arrived well after evening peak."

  • "I try to go to Bayona every time that I visit New Orleans. The food is outstanding. The chef maintains a base menu of highly successful choices but then offers creative new choices each day. The food is wonderfully prepared and the service is really good. The restaurant is divided into small rooms so it is possible to have nice conversations with your dining companions."

  • "Food was great as always but it was much noisier than I remember it being in the past. Service was excellent."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "I had high hopes for this meal. Service was slow and often curt. Appetizers were hit or miss. Pickling spices and chile heat were overused. Entree was great ( salmon) - that was the bright spot . It was hard to enjoy the meal, though, when having to shout across the table. Pricey - have had better experiences at that price level."

  • "Bayona is one of our family favorites! We always enjoy it."

  • "From the warm genuine welcome to great waitstaff (helpful without being solicitous) to the perfect menu. I loved the starter special charred tomato and eggplant with cauliflower and pesto and white beans, delightful. The golden tilefish with lentils my friend ordered was sublime as was my peppered lamb loin. And the ice cream for dessert hit the perfect note. I would highly recommend, great price point and very well executed menu."

  • "Another near-flawless meal at my go-to special occasion spot whenever I'm in town, and quite possibly my favorite restaurant anywhere. the house seated a large, rowdy crowd in the center of the main dining room, which was a bit of a surprise. but overall: superb, as always."

  • "Excellent in all areas, very positive dining experience. Highly recommended."

  • "Ok but not nearly as impressive as it was on my last visit. Uptown has"
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "Particularly the food was not nearly as well prepared as our many prior visits. The choices were limited. Susan Spicer was not the chef. Even the opening breads were stale and dry. Salads were mainly endive and boring with little flavor. The escargot appetizer was wonderful. The salmon entre was very good. Duck main course was overcooked. Root Beer Cake was average. Service was efficient but not much flair. Sorry but this changes my opinion of one of New Orleans very best restaurants."

  • "Susan Spicer, you rock. We had another great meal at Bayona."

  • "Food was amazing. Each ingredient well thought out and prepared to make dish a symphony of flavor. Truly some of the best food in Nola. Amazing wine list. Sat right under the A/C vent...freezing!! And unfortunately strong enough to make the food cold after a couple bites. Which was frustrating because the food was so amazingly good. Goat cheese crouton to die for. Crawfish app was incredible- perfect favors and textures. Service attentive and good but a bit unprofessional. Amazing food. Fix the A/C issue folks."

  • "Eating at Bayana is a must do when we visit New Orleans. The food is great and the choices, both regular items and specials, is delightful, fresh and quite varied. The location adds to the experience."

  • "We first went to this restaurant for lunch, had a small plate tasting meal, sat in the lovely garden and had a great waiter. He discussed the beer and food thoroughly. We were so impressd with the variety of unusual and delicious combinations that we decided on our next trip to try dinner. The food remained excellent. The reason for 3 stars on service is although we had agreeable servers we would have liked assistance with the wine list. They did not speak knowledgably about the wines. Also, we waited a long time after ordering for our coctails to arrive and it also- took a forever to get to us every time we needed service. The room was fine, not condusive to quite conversation. Despite this we would definately go back for the food."

  • "My husband and I, and our 3 kids (7,9,12), ate here for lunch. The food was great, as was the service."
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • " Wait staff constantly asking how we were enjoying the meal and not very interested in receiving less than a surpurlative grade. Pork chop was excellent but Hanger steak just ok . Shrimp appitzer was not described as presented. An ok experience but not the rave restaurant we were expecting."

  • "Bayona is a more leisurely-paced restaurant, that allows you to munch on a house appetizer while enjoying your first drink. The garlic soup and special soup-of-the night, a light-roux crawfish stew, were both superb. We also shared the goat cheese crouton and mushrooms. The rabbit roulade was exception, tender breast meat and the fried leg a nice flavor contradiction. Service was outstanding as well. We found the two dessert choices not quite what we wanted, and opted for Brocato's."

  • "Wonderful meal but has to wait 30 minutes for 9:15 pm reservation. We waited in lounge area however the very harried manager took maybe 20 min to bring our drinks. Meal however was outstanding"

  • "My husband and I recently had the most amazing lunch at Bayona. We each picked 3 of the lunch items and shared. Everything we ate was delicious. Felt like a chef tasting! I highly recommend Bayona as a special treat, with very reasonable prices!"

  • "Bayona has become our favorite restaurant in NOLA. Fantastic service, wonderful food. We enjoyed a fantastic evening."

  • "One of my former favorites. Afraid it is letting some of the out of the quarter competition get ahead of it. Rides on the past. Good thing it's in the quarter and can attract the tourist crowd. Enough with the celebrity chef business. "

  • "This restaurant came highly recommended but I found the food options not as interesting."

  • "I haven't been to Bayona for many years and really looked forward to eating there this time in New Orleans. Starting with barely defrosted frozen sweet potato brioche, which by the way was an extra dollar, moving on to unremarkable appetizer and entrée, finishing with the weirdest ice cream ever, I will not be going here again or telling others to. Service was marginal at best. "

  • "This was the best restaurant meal I had in the French Quarter. Delicious food, professional service."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary here and it was perfect! The simple things like everyone wishing us a happy anniversary to confetti hearts on our table were special touches that made our visit unique. The service was good but the food coming out of the kitchen was a little slow...well worth the wait as it was cooked to perfection. Would definitely return!"

  • "We have been here numerous times but it is losing it's charm on us. There are just too many excellent choices in New Orleans to dine in a cramped, uncomfortable place for an expensive dinner. Limited menu choices, but what is served is usually very good. Cramped and noisy - some tables are actually in very high traffic zones by doorways. Not good for romance or quiet conversation. Awkward service - 4 salads, served at two different times with long wait for entree. What is with this aversion to separate checks? Two couples for dinner and you can't give 2 checks? I will eat elsewhere next time in town."

  • "Who knew that veal sweetbreads could be sublime? And that a simple grilled salmon could induce squeals of joy? The wait staff at Bayona know! Such a great place to dine and wallow in magnificent food. Don't miss this spot!"
