A word from Bay Kitchen Bar
Spring in the Hamptons means warm air, daffodils, and of course a crop of new restaurants. The latest is Bay Kitchen Bar, set to open Memorial Day weekend in the former Andrra space. The latest venture from chef/owner Eric Miller (of Food & Co and Miller's BBQ fame) and co-owner Richard Silver. The restaurant will offer fab waterviews, indoor/outdoor seating, marina access for boaters, and of course great food. Eric Miller will rely on his relationships with local fishermen and baymen to source the best possible quality ingredients.

Sample menu items include a raw bar menu with local littleneck clams and dishes such as Dayboat sea scallops with sweet pea risotto and roasted pepper vinaigrette or spit-roasted Long Island duck. A series of public special events is in the works, including clambakes, barbeques and whole animal roasts in Miller's BBQ smoker. We can't wait to check it out this summer.

Diner Reviews
  • "I requested a table with some caveats that were ignored, however, the hostess upgraded our location immediately when we protested. We, a party of 3, ended up with far too much food because portions are generous. We ordered two main courses- clams on pasta and crab cakes….both were outstanding. We also ordered calamari and a lobster roll. Both were excellent and fish was very fresh. We also ordered a plate of dips with pita and that was so delicious but so unnecessary because the restaurant serves a plate of pita with a tomato dip --also scrumptious. Service was amazing…dirty dishes, etc cleared immediately Only complaint-- imaginative bar drinks that are pretty small and weak. We'll come again, but order differently."

  • "The view on the harbor is always great, especially at sunset. The menu is ambitious; perhaps lobster ravioli (chunks of lobster, but served too cool with an overwhelming tomato saffron sauce) and duck (over cooked on the breast but over a nice salad) were not good choices. Very nice crusty bread was served with a strange tomato pasty dipping sauce with feta cheese on top (??). Our server was training someone, which is fine, but not ok to be surly with them and berate them at the table making her, and us, uncomfortable. Pannacota was served with a berry compote but was too heavy. Might return.... different wait staff.... try something more simple...... Love the seetting"

  • "We ordered swordfish from Montauk and Long Island Duck. Both were excellent. Key Lime Pie a great finish. Our table overlooking the harbor couldn't have been better and our server attententive, even though the place was packed."

  • "The food was excellent, service was very good, and the view at subset is nothing short of spectacular."

  • "Breath taking sunsets on Three Mile Harbor are complimented by nice seafood fare. We especially enjoyed the soft shell crab special. Service, however, was quite poor and wait staff seemed indifferent to paying attention to us. Even with the restaurant mainly empty we were frustrated as waiters stood idly by talking to each other instead of waiting on patrons."

  • "Hard to screw up at one of the top 10 view spots in the Hamptons and they deliver with great food. Reception folks are excellent dealing with the summer people who invade the East End. Our server was VERY, VERY nice, but we waited 15 min to see him and then another 15 min for our wine. The amazing view makes the wait far more palatable. The local clams were delicious, the flash fried soft shell crabs amazing. Decent, super light, bottle of Rose for $45. And again, an amazing sunset view."

  • "lobster roll and soft shell crab superb. only minus was the lobster roll was supposed to be toasted. it was not. some service deficiencies:water served was warm. had to request ice. no bread plates. one other food deficiency: bread was only average. and servied with a cheese and tomato sauce. butter or olive oil would have been better. but i will go back again soon. food in my opinion is the best in the hamptons."

  • "This was my favorite Hamptons restaurant. In fact, it was my ONLY Hamptons restaurant. Delicious food, gorgeous bayside setting, delightful service. Loved to take my guests there to prove that it was possible to enjoy a lovely meal out in the crazy Hamptons. What happened? A rave NY Times review. Now it's overcrowded, noisy, and -- worst of all -- my reservation, which I had confirmed twice, was not honored. My friends and I were kept waiting 45 minutes while other guests sashayed in. At least the view from the front steps was stunning."

  • "This was a great experience, the restaurant is sat in a Marina in the NW woods, it has a beautiful water view. The service which I often find lacking was solid, our waiter was knowledgeable of the menu and the ingredients of the dish, which was great as a few of the people I was with had allergies. The food and wine were great, the seafood was prepared perfectly. Absolutely going back."

  • "Always have to wait 30/45 mn to get a table despite reservations ! But the food is really fantastic and we be been offered a dessert for having waited that long. Dee, in charge of us, was really great, fun and efficient. So just be ready to wait for a memorable sea good experience"

  • "The host or hostess greet you with warmth & a big welcome! Then comes a lovely glass of wine, cocktail or iced tea - and then the delicious dinner! Lots of great seafood & fish. We love the sautéed mushrooms and the roasted & bbq duck!! What a wonderful evening including a magnificent sunset!"

  • "I told them I was coming with a one year old in advance. Once they sat me it took them over 10 minutes to get a high chair. The waiter came over to take my order and I still didn't have a high chair. I asked the waiter for a high chair and he said well didn't you ask someone already. There is also no kids menu or cups with lids for the kids. It is a fun place to go, but difficult with kids. I also enjoyed East Hampton Point better which is just down the road and has the same type of atmosphere."

  • "Some of the best food I've had in a long time. Simple and elegant fresh food all cooked perfectly. Grilled octopus was tender and had great flavor. Beautiful fresh greens piled lovingly on top of fresh simply prepared fish. Amazing key lime tart for dessert. Best thing was that there wasn't any truffle oil on the menu!! Place was packed but we had a reservation and didn't have to wait long. Service was attentive and fast. I would definitely go back.... soon!"

  • "Overall pleased with the experience. Amazing view with great service. Our fish was over cooked. We didn't say anything, so perhaps our fault! Still enjoyed dining there overall."

  • "the food was excellent, we enjoyed every dish we ordered, the service however was friendly but not experienced, dinner plates were cleared while one of us was still eating, water never was refilled, coffee cup had lipstick on it. I hope they will improve."

  • "Beautiful setting and table was ready within 15 minutes - did not honor my special Open Table request for a window table but it was busy. Wait staff made an effort but could not keep up at all- food slow, service slow. Everything we ordered except kid's fish and chips had some sort of marinara sauce involved (even the bread basket) - lobster ravioli was tasteless, had to request check from manager when our waiter disappeared. Bar area is lovely - would go back for a sunset drink but not dinner. Disappointing evening especially since it was a birthday celebration."

  • "Best restaurant , ie , food , in last few years-- previously it was a different restaurant every year. Staff, from owner to wait staff, trying hard to please. Looking forward to dining again. p.s ... And the beautiful sunset didn't hurt either!"

  • "Five stars. Even on a misty evening when there would obviously be no spectacular sunset the view was lovely. The staff, from hostess to waitstaff and bus-staff were friendly, informed and helpful. And then there's the food.....creative recipes, nice presentation, generous portions and dangerously delicious desserts. If only someone could find Georgette (of Georgette's at the same location about 30 years ago) and beg her for her recipe for frozen lemon pie.....then I'd say six stars."

  • "We learned of Bay Kitchen Bar from a July 13 NYT review by Joanne Starkey. She gave it an "Excellent" rating. My wife and I don't always agree with Ms. Starkey's reviews but this one was spot-on in every respect; from the ambience, friendliness of staff, food and more. The general manager was particularly friendly and efficient. Our only criticism is that the name of the restaurant is neither interesting nor memorable."

  • "a lovely view of three mile harbor--reserve early--and a nautical theme with polished mahogany rails and navy blue cushions and mirrored end tables...an incredible chef Eric Miller-- great oysters, swordfish fresh from Montauk, and warm breezes from the bay. incredible educated waiter who can help choose from the mostly fish menu....an excellent choice anytime"

  • "So many restaurants in East Hampton come and go, but as a full time resident it's great to find a new place with really good food in the season. Also, as a full time resident I hope it stays open in the winter and continues to deliver the quality that we enjoy in the summer. The view is great and overall our dinner at Bay Kitchen Bar was excellent!"

  • "So noisy. We were 6 and couldn't hear ourselves speak. They served one dinner to another table and barely apologized. We didn't have to wait but we met friends who waited over 30 minutes to be seated for a 7 o'clock reservation. Food was adequate. Waiter was very pleasant and accommodating but wasn't there when dinner was served to the wrong table"

  • "We called in the morning to adjust our reservation from 6 to 8 and never got a response. When we arrived we were told by the hostess that she had 43 voicemails and couldn't respond. As a result we were jammed into a small table. The waiter was clearly overwhelmed. We had to press him to check with the kitchen with regards to a food allergy. That being said, the food was very good and we will try it again."

  • "This restaurant benefits from being right on the bay. But this cant make up for the poor food quality. Ordered lobster. Overpriced for the amount of meat. Clams and linguine was inedible. The clams were fishy and tough. Ordered fish and chips and the batter was soggy. Overall a big disappointment!"

  • "Great seafood and seaside dining at the mouth of Three Mile Harbor...these alone, along with the sunset, have always made this spot worth it. I had a perfect Striped Bass plate. The $14 mojito was awesome, but I expected to be billed 50% for happy hour but I guess that doesn't apply to the specialty cocktails? In general, its an overpriced place, but to be expected. That said, can't beat the Happy Hour $1 Oysters and Clams on the half shell. Well worth a visit."

  • "Unfortunately, the owners have under-invested in help. Too few wait staff, poorly trained bus staff...lots of things like asking if I want more water whenever my water glass was empty, but without a pitcher in their hand. Happened every time I emptied the glass. Just fill it up for Pete' sake! Service was never ahead of ball...always playing defense, terribly inefficient. The hostess was completely stressed and let it show...our table was 40 minutes late. Never saw a manager on the floor, which is what this place desperately needs to keep staff moving. That said, the food was decent....striped bass was great.. the seafood platter however, was very disappointing...stingy and expensive."
