Baxters American GrilleModerately GoodThe food was excellent. I ordered the Brazilian Steak Kabobs and the steak and vegetables were delicious but I was a little disappointed in the rice. My boyfriend got the pork chop and wished it wasn't cooked as well as it had been. We ate outdoors because it was a nice night but there was a good amount of bugs outside. Service is inconsistent normally, however, it was attentive and smart this time...great! Food was good, always the best steak nachos in town. However, I can't believe a restaurant of this price range with such a nice patio allows smoking on the patio. I have a hard time paying that much for a meal and trying to eat it while smelling smoke. Get the smokers outside the patio where people are trying to enjoy the food the chefs have worked hard on!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday nosh - table for two...This was a little celebration for the two of us for a Birthday. Baxter's honored our request for an intimate table in the back, which was wonderful, but the only complaint was the noise spill over from the bar. I love their bar when I'm in it, but from a dining perspective, not so much. The service was great and the food was delicious, as always. Thought we'd strike out when it came to finding a good place open late. Baxter's was an unexpected delight. Our waiter was professional but unobtrusive. Chorizo stuffed mushrooms and quesadillas were tasty appetizers. The planked salmon was a great entree choice. Bar is noisy, but dining room is quiet enough for a pleasant conversation. This time my husband and I had the veal chop medium rare with mushroom gravy and garlic mashed potatoes...very delicious, thick and juicy. I love chardonnay and there were four to select from. Our booth had both bench and chairs and felt very private. Our friends had the prime rib and said it also was very good. I especially liked the tasty spinach salad which was not soggy and had a lot of crunchy bacon. They have sizable wine and cocktail lists. Good variation in menu items, and wide variation in menu prices. Steak or seafood dishes run about $25. I'd recommend the scallops 3 ways to any seafood lovers - unique and flavorful! Service was excellent. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knew the menu well. Food courses came out at a great pace. Saturday nights are packed and loud. I recommend reservations. There was a band in the bar area that made it too loud for my taste. But other than that the night was perfect!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Late Dinner in BloomingtonWhen I visit Bloomington on business, I almost always have at least one meal at Baxter's, especially if I am having a late dinner. Baxter's is the only good restaurant I have found in Bloomington-Normal that is still serving dinner at 9:00 p.m. on a weeknight without having to rush you because the kitchen is closing. The service is sometimes a little slow, but the staff are all very friendly, which makes any delays more tolerable. I have found all of the food to be good, especially the ribeye steak and the veal ribeye. The salads are very good, too. The music in the bar this past Saturday evening was very nice and not too loud. I am accustomed to good restaurants in large cities, and Baxter's comes closest to the mark in Bloomington.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMediocre food, trendy atmosphereStopped at Baxters during a business trip to Bloomington. Food was only o.k., nothing really special or outstanding. Our waiter was excellent and very attentive. Time to receive our food was SLOW SLOW SLOW. After ordering it took 30 minutes to get our appetizer, 40 minutes to get our side salads and an hour and 20 minutes to get our entrees.
