A word from Bavettes
Bavette’s is a European-Style steakhouse. The signature is a prime ribeye that is dry-aged in house. There is also a wide variety of fresh seafood, including a daily selection of fresh oysters, king crab, and shrimp cocktail. Bavette’s also specializes in classic cocktails with a focus of brown spirits. The value driven wine list is eclectic and global.

Reservations made through Open Table will be for Bavette's main dining room. The largest party size that the restaurant can accommodate are groups of six. Currently, we do not offer any private dining.

  • "We had a fantastic experience. The food was outstanding (and dessert), the wine was wonderful, service was outstanding and professional, and the overall atmosphere was comfortable. We both had steak and it was beautifully prepared and exactly how we requested they be cooked. The wine list is descriptive and suggestive for pairings. The dessert we ordered was the cheesecake. We were not expecting how large the portion was. However, we went in the later evening (so many open tables) and instead of seating us away from a loud couple complaining the entire time they were dining, we were seated right next to them. Nonetheless my boyfriend and I completely enjoyed the experience and will surely return here for another special occasion dining."

  • "Our first dinner at Bavette's had been the best meal out we've had, and this experience (our second) topped that one. The steak was just slightly better cooked (go for rare-plus if you want literally no grey but no purple), and the service was impeccable. The hosts were clearly reluctant to let us have a cocktail at their awesome bar, pushing back our reservation, but they made it happen. Also, the bottles of wine we brought were chilled while we went to the bar first - a service the restaurant provides literally at cost to themselves, since the corkage is free. Make sure to tip your server extra for this, since s/he loses out the most for this service. Every dish we had was excellent - we skipped the very short dessert list this time."

  • "The atmosphere and service were outstanding - a great special occasion place, has a very "speakeasy" feel. Food was excellent - meats were cooked to perfection and server was very knowledgeable about menu and seasonal additions. I would definitely go back and recommend to anyone - but be prepared to leave very full - and make sure to save room for the chocolate cream pie!!"

  • "Was really excited to try this place but was very underwhelmed. We ordered the bone in dry aged rib eye, deep fried chicken, pomme frites, thick cut bacon and chocolate pie. First, the steak was not very good. It lacked marbelling and juiciness. I've had much better bone in rib eyes before. It was really disappointing. Not worth it at all. The fried chicken really lacked flavour. Popeyes chicken has more flavour. The thick bacon was amazing. Crispy, savoury, sweet. Lots of flavour. Pomme frites had a nice dipping sauce with it. Chocolate pie was outstanding. Delicious chocolate ganache with fresh whipped cream on a Oreo crust. It's a must try. Dinner came out to $140 with tip Entrees were terrible, sides and dessert were great!"

  • "The $60 bone in Ribeye first brought to the table was very rare instead of Medium and frankly tough to cut! The waiter agreed and ordered me a new steak which was excellent and lived up to the excellent reviews. We appreciate that they were anxious to get it right so in the end, it was a great evening for our Anniversary!"

  • "The space is dark (not too dark), brick, and wood. Very warm and inviting. The mixed oyster appetizer was fantastic.....but expensive. $3.50 per oyster. The steaks were outstanding - this from a Houstonian where great steak places are in abundance. The wine list was surprisingly small and needs to be expanded. But absolutely worth putting on your list. Make your reservations well in advance - it's a tough reservation to hook."

  • "We went for a great dinner as a cap to our weekend trip to Chicago (first time in the city for both of us). The food was excellent - the classic ribeye was fantastic, as were the sides (roasted tomatoes and the elote corn). We were jammed full and had to take dessert to go. Our waiter was attentive, helpful - and pretty enthusiastic about the menu!"

  • "Had a terrific and decadent dinner. Cocktails at the bar were excellent. Our server was attentive and had a great personality. Fabulous corkage policy (one bottle per couple, no fee but share a glass with the table next door, who will do the same). Standout dishes included the bone marrow, the pork chop was beautiful and I had a bone on filet which was great. Not sure any dishes would be bad. Ill definitely come back."

  • "Amazing ambiance! You felt like you were back in the 1920's. You can really relax and enjoy the food here. We were there for over 2 hours just for dinner for 2. The food was very good and cooked perfectly; however, we were a little disappointed in the steaks. They did not have as much flavor and excitement as some of the other steakhouses. We will definitely come back for a drink at the bar to enjoy the atmosphere, but probably not for dinner."

  • "If you're looking for spectacular ambiance (albeit a bit dark), Bavettes is awesome. If you're looking for great service, responsible/healthy ingredients and a diner-first POV, Bavettes is not your place. We wanted to linger over some small plates and decide on main courses over conversation, but our server told us that the kitchen prefers the whole ticket at once. What the kitchen prefers would matter more if the kitchen was paying our bill. Throw in a way off point wine recommendation, freaking farm-raised salmon, grain finished beef, waiting over 20 minutes for adult beverage refill service, and we will spend our 150/person elsewhere."

  • "We wanted to go somewhere romantic for a date night. While the steak didn't live up to expectations, the Bolognese pasta certainly did! It's the same Bolognese pasta I love from Gilt Bar but in a more romantic ambiance. So overall, food was okay but the experience was great!"

  • "The romantic atmosphere is just the beginning to this incredible restaurant. It had the feel of a 1920s speakeasy, but very upscale and oh so classy. The service was outstanding with everyone being attentive but not hovering. There really isn't a good way to describe the food other than to say - 'just go eat here'. We started with a variety of oysters on the half shell, followed by the best wedge salad I've had in my life. The salad comes with a steak knife spearing two thick sliced of bacan. The best bacan. We also enjoyed a filet and a good bottle of wine. It was a very memorable experience."

  • "We had drinks in the bar prior to our dinner reservation. The mixed drinks are fantastic. We shared the flavorful wedge salad with the amazing thick cut bacon. We each had steaks (petite filet & bone in strip steak) then we shared the loaded baked potato & ice cream for dessert. My filet was delicious but my husbands steak had a piece of connective tissue & he was unable to cut through the center of his steak. We told the waitress then the manager came over & offered to replaced his strip steak with a better one. He did enjoy the second steak. We will return for dinner in the future."

  • "We started off with a duck terrine appetizer. My wife had lamb (delicious) and I had the 22 oz. bone-in rib eye steak. We shared the fantastic elote corn (with cheese), and the pommes frites. We both had two glasses of wine which were smooth as silk. Oh, and I also had mushrooms and garlic on top of the steak. I am here to tell you that the steak was buttery and delicious. I've never quite had it made that way, however they did it. Price for this blowout? About $250 and worth every penny. I never spend that kind of dough but in this case, no regrets. We didn't get dessert or coffee because we were literally too stuffed. We told our waiter it was one of the best meals we'd had. . Anyway - GO!"

Yeah, the food is good, the service is great, the prices are reasonable, etc. But the best way to put this is that the *experience* at Bavette's was flat-out cool. Nothing draws attention to itself – no pretension on the menu, the drinks, or in the decor. But though it's obvious that everything is carefully crafted to *be* unpretentious. Not to draw attention to itself, while being absolutely good, even if it isn't perfect. And this was on a Tuesday night. We're absolutely coming here again. As soon as another reservation opens up, that is."

  • "I found the wine list to be limited, unless you are looking for wine that is over $200 (to $700) per bottle. The food was great, the service was very good. Short menu, which in my mind meant that everything on the menu would be done very well. The items we had lived up to that. Expensive. Without wine or bar bill, the food was $100 per person plust tip. So make sure you know who is buying dinner before you go."

  • "I heard that Bavettes made the best steak in Chicago and I was not disappointed. Delmonico with bone marrow is as decadent as it gets. However, it was not only the steak but the entire package that makes this an extraordinary restaurant. Everything was delicious. Brandon, our waiter, was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. He allowed us time to have several courses (oysters, salads, entree and dessert) without hovering or pushing us to leave. It was nice to take time and dine in an intimate setting. The BYO policy is also very nice and unique. Loved everything about this place. "
