A word from Bavettes
Bavette’s is a European-Style steakhouse. The signature is a prime ribeye that is dry-aged in house. There is also a wide variety of fresh seafood, including a daily selection of fresh oysters, king crab, and shrimp cocktail. Bavette’s also specializes in classic cocktails with a focus of brown spirits. The value driven wine list is eclectic and global.

Reservations made through Open Table will be for Bavette's main dining room. The largest party size that the restaurant can accommodate are groups of six. Currently, we do not offer any private dining.

  • "We came back to Bavette's because we had the most unbelievable steak at our last visit. Our server was also pleasant. However, this second visit, our server was very snooty. Our questions regarding the menu was addressed condescendingly. No matter how good the food is here, you will lose customers if service does not measure up. We will have to think twice about subjecting ourselves to rude service. The Chop House never let their service fall, and their steaks were just as good as Bavette's. We will go there next time."

  • "Tried this place after seeing it featured as #2 on Chicago Mag's 20 Best Steak Houses. I must say I wasn't fully disappointed; the food was delicious, but I think it could have been better. - Oysters: Fresh. Good have been shucked more carefully. - Pommes Frites: Delicious. - Buttery mashed potatoes: Another delicious classic - Dry aged bone in rib-eye: Good. The steak salt definitely saved the dish. Our dish was quite sinewy and difficult to cut and chew. The sauce on the side added flavor, but isn't necessary. - Blood Orange Sorbet: after a hearty meal, this was the perfect ending. It was nice, citrus-y, and refreshing. The service and atmosphere here deserves an A++. Sometimes these can make or break a restaurant."

  • "We dined at Bavettes a few months ago and had a spectacular experience. We couldn't get a reservation other than at 9:15 pm, but the server was very attentive, food was phenomenal and the experience/ambiance couldn't be beat. We raved about Bavettes 22oz prime ribeye to everyone. We're not sure exactly what happened this time. Perhaps our first trip was so late that we had proper service attention, but this time the restaurant was obviously understaffed.We waited for an extremely long time before being greeted, and equally long times in between to place our order and receive our food. The steak was still good, but there were numerous other hiccups in the process that just doesn't seem appropriate of a place of this caliber and price point."

  • "When out of town guests come to visit, Bavette's is always a nice place for dinner to start an evening. Oyster selection is amazing. The petite filet is always cooked well. The ribeye is mouth-watering and tickles all of the senses in just the right ways. Creamed spinach, corn, and fries are great sides to round out any supper choice. Lillet rose martini, lion's tail, and champagne cocktails are favorites. And, the whiskey gelato and chocolate cream pie are musts to complete all meals here. Our sever was friendly and spent a good amount of time explaining the menu to my guests without pretension."

  • "Had dinner with a small group of girlfriends for a friend's birthday. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and patient as he went over the extensive menu in great detail for us. He even suggested we share plates to experience more--that was a great recommendation! I was pleasantly surprised to see several of my favorite wines from a recent trip to Europe on their list."

  • "My wife chose Bavette's for her birthday dinner. She told me it was a place known for great steak and cocktails. They delivered on both. I had the 22oz Ribeye, med rare, which was cooked perfectly and served with their house Bearnaise sauce. I am not one to put sauce on steaks, I think they should stand on their own. However, this sauce added so much to the already perfect steak! We ordered our steaks with bone marrow sides and the spicy corn side. The marrow was perfect and is just like beef butter to add to a great bite of steak. The corn was unusually delicious - a little spicy, creamy, and sweet. The Lion's Tail bourbon drink I had was well made as I could taste the bourbon and the mixers as well. I just wish there was more."

  • "I was visiting Chicago and didn't expect much from this place. The name sounded like some French Foo-Foo restaurant. It was more man-cave than bistro and the food was amazing. From the appetizers (Salmon Tar Tare and Foie Gras) to the main course (steak and fried chicken) to the dessert, (chocolate pie), everything was out of this world delicious. Usually people are polite and won’t eat the last piece of pie. Not this time, we just about fought over the last crumb. The service and atmosphere was perfect for us.The prices are actually reasonable for the quality of food. If you are looking for a recommendation from me, let me put it this way. I will always make sure Bavette’s is on my list of dinner reservations whenever I’m back in Chicago."

  • "Bavette's has been popular since its soft opening night which my girlfriend and I crashed. The place is dark, nicely appointed, and relatively quiet even when busy (which is nearly always). Servers are knowledgeable about the food and drink menus and not overly-attentive. Water service is not drowning, which is just great. The drink menu is diverse and the craft cocktails are well-made. Food is great: short rib stroganoff, pork chop, and bacon side dish are standouts. The steaks are good too (i've had the chicago cut and dry aged rib eyes), though as an unabashed steak hyper-snob I prefer Capital Grille or Chicago Cut. If you go, you'll be back."

  • "I went to Bavettes for a nice dinner for two this past Sunday. Reservations fill up quickly and I can see why. Our server was very knowledgeable, and everything was outstanding from the drinks to the appetizers to the main course. I had the dry-aged ribeye which was perfect. My date had the lamb chop special which was one of the best seasoned meats I've ever tasted. Prices were reasonable for a nice steak and seafood place and portion sizes were generous. I will definitely be back!"

  • "I ordered the bone-in-ribeye medium-rare, but it was medium-well. It was brought back into the kitchen and I received another steak that was medium-well. I chose to keep that one since I did not want to have my girlfriend eat her dinner by herself. Her filet was the perfect temperature. In the end the manager comped my steak from the bill. If my steak was served at the right temperature it would have been otherwise an excellent dining experience, but the medium-well served steak took away the joy of celebrating my girlfriend's D-Day dinner."

  • "Bavettes is one of our favorite restaurants and recommend it to all our friends.This was our third visit and we keep refining our food choices! The goat cheese appetizer is wonderful, and then we usually split the salad with the bacon (our favorite). But this time, we went straight for the bacon appetizer, along with the salmon appetizer. We split a 6 oz filet, which was cooked to perfection. We always order the corn casserole and the squash side dish, and are never disappointed. With each visit, our waiters have been quite helpful in suggesting side dishes etc. Portions are large enough to easily split, which enables us to enjoy a variety of different dishes."

  • "I have now had two memorable, impressive dinners here in the past three months. This time we returned with friends so we could enjoy more of the menu (portions are huge and everything is so great it was fun coming as a party of four and sharing). The seafood tower is really an impressive dish; stunning presentation and loaded with an array of high quality delicious seafood. Bavettes definitely is one of the best venues in Chicago for steak; the dry aged bone in prime rib-eye was to die for and the fried chicken is also as good as you will find. Lively, energetic and classy vibe. Sure it is a bit expensive, but well worth the splurge. The only knock is on both visits our server seemed spread too thin."

  • "The bone in filet and ribeye were delicious, and the simply prepared salmon was terrific as well. The Wedge Salad, broccoli and creamed spinach were excellent. The ice cream dessert was a great finish. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed in the way of an old style steak restaurant. Finally, the secret ingredient that put this all together for a delightful evening was our server, Erik, who was knowledgeable, helpful, attentive (but not too) and likable."

  • "We came here for dinner before a show at the Chicago Theatre. My husband and I split the roasted tomato salad and the dry aged bone in ribeye and frites. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite! We split a bottle of French Cabernet which paired very well. Can't wait to go back. Only downside was a group of young women right next to us that were very loud. I could barely hear what my husband was saying but couldn't help but hear there entire conversations."

  • "I recently held a pre-bday dinner for myself and 5 of my girl friends, I must say I was impressed from the service as well as the ambience, and of course not to mention The Food. We were seated very promptly and enjoyed a nice spacious booth on the lower level. For starters we enjoyed the Baked Goat Cheese, Salmon Tartare and Peppered Duck and Goat Cheese Terrine, all of which were equally delicious as the other. For dinner I had the Steak Frites (Medium) which came with french fries and was very flavorful and cooked almost perfectly. Our waiter as well as the helpers were very pleasant and funny with their on time jokes of the night. Very nice service. I will definitely dine here again. :-)"
