Battery Gardens was a fantastic place to dine, right on the water's edge with a fabulous view of the statue of liberty. The prix fixe menu was a great choice - food was well prepared, and not too much of it. I rated the service as "good" as the hostess was non-existent, but that was balanced by the waiters who were attentive, yet not pushy. IN all, a perfect place to have a night out and enjoy some of the best views of ny.

We were disappointed to be seated in the Atrium (the phone message was left in our canadian home). It felt a bit unworthy of the restaurant experience.....this was our first time in New York and we were hoping for "outstanding one". The ambiance was definitely lacking, could have been improved by decor and a bigger table. Overall, the food was very good, wine list very good. Service was great. Our table was close to the doors which contributed to a "busy" ambiance.....not a relaxing or a romantic one for that matter.

Had a great experience. There was some confusion around our reservation when we arrived (it was raining and we were supposed to sit outside), but after moving some tables inside we were able to get a nice seat. Expensive entrees but the $35 pre fix is a great way to get your money's worth. There was a wedding going on inside while we were there, but that was actually fun to be a part of.

Didn't know this place was even here until I looked at Opentable. Definitely recommend eating outside on the patio on a nice day and night. Very romantic to have dinner with that special someone while seeing the sunset set over the water. The service was alright. The waiters weren't that attentive. We ordered from the Prix Fix menu. Had the tuna tartar for an appetizer and salmon for the entree. Salmon was very moisture.

I had my doubts aboutthis touristy destination/catering hall restuarant. It boasts of gorgeous NYC waterside complete with sailboats , sunsets and lady liberty. Clearly the view and real estate is aces, but I had a sunday mid day meal there with my mom and husband, and I must say i was pleasantly surprised. ( Granted my expectations were low) They were offering a pre-fix complete w app, main course, and dessert. For the price, it was a good deal by NYC standards ad the portions were very generous. Not bad at all. I wouldnt say fit for foodies, but a completely decent meal in a beautiful spot. Great for summer/early fall outdoor meals. I had a very funny cheery waiter with a genrous pour:)

Thought the menu was somewhat limited and overpriced. Was not happy that on such a hot and humid day, we were unable to be seated inside, so we were forced to suffer in the sweltering heat. What if it was raining and lightning? This was unacceptable! We were drenched from the humidity and miserable, it was not the positive experience that I was hoping for. I think you need to work on your menu and be a little more flexible.

The scenic view is what you are paying for here and it does not disappoint: beautiful open view of the NY harbor and the Statue of Liberty. The food is decent, but not great. My wife and I ordered the filet mignon and it was a bit dry (cooked medium) and lacked flavor. The clam chowder was very good though. As with anything in NYC, it was all overpriced. Dinner for 2 came to $180 including tip and 2 drinks each (no dessert). The outdoor seating is rather old and uncomfortable. View: 5 stars. Restaurant: 2.5. This is probably a better place to grab a sandwich and beer during the day--go somewhere nicer at night.

Although the food and scenery are spectacular, the restaurant has to fail. We were the only people dining at 9pm. The waitors hustled in and out but never did very much. The service was abysmal. Since we were a party of 7, the automatic tip precluded them from caring. The boss sat at the bar, which was closed, and then right outside. He gave no supervision to the staff. The chef should move on to a good place!

On a beautiful summer night, it was fantastic to sit at the waters edge and sip a cold Peroni. Food was OK. The summer squash pizza with sundried tomato was tasty, no hint of the truffle honey, and that was ok (seemed a little odd for this dish). The steak salad with Maytag Bleu came with a mid rare skirt steak which was excellent, and some questionable iceberg lettuce and lots of Maytag Cheese. The Burger was more than adequate.

Came here for a summer evening in July, not really hungry, just wanted a light meal and the experience in this outdoors spot by the Atlantic ocean. I am from Northern Germany, so I am used to this from the other shore. It is the same water body, smells and feels the same. The food was good but extremely overpriced, that is why I didn't give full points. Gazpacho was excellent, but $10 for a small portion is too much. And worse: the salads were only a handful portionwise, and they were also $10 each. We are from PA and have a small income, and we are not used to those inflated rates. So we won't be back. But if you have a NY-style income, go for it, the food is good and the outdoors seating is nice. It's only too expensive for us.

The view of the river and Statue of Liberty was exquisite-especially being that is was July 4th. Expect high prices, due to their ideal real estate position on the island. Our food was very good (Sea Bass and Sword Fish. Wouldn't recommend the Gazpacho, as it was pureed, rather than chunky. Skipped dessert. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The pure draw for us, was the scenic view.

Food was O.K. Service felt a bit rushed, and we had to ask for water to be served. What I definitely did not like was that when I got the final bill, there was a "Service Charge" equal to 20% of the food cost before taxes (i.e. even though we were a party of four, they included the tip within the final bill). When I received my credit card receipt to sign, there was a place for an additional tip. Needless to say, none was added. Scenic views bring people in once, but food and service brings them back. I probably will avoid this restaurant in the future.

Cocktails (Cosmo and Mojito) were weak. Crabcake was good but nothing special. Pizza Margarhita was more like a Sbarro Turnpike cheese pizza. Steak was ordered medium rare but was served medium-well done on a "salad" of olive oil doused lettuce with a sprinkling of flavorless blue cheese. The location is extraordinary although once seated the weeds overgrowing the wall topping planters block all views of the harbor. Unfortunately a wedding cocktail hour occupied the entire upper terrace complete with the world's worst guitar playing singer blasting away for the first half of our dinner. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
