A word from Batifole Restaurant
Batifole is an intimate small French restaurant that serves simple, comfortable cooking without pretense to the residents of Riverdale for almost 10 years. Now with a new owner. Our dinner menu is strait-forward evenly price at $10.00 and $22.00.

The service is professional and friendly. With an extensive French wine list, the list features only carefully selected wines, many of which are inexpensive. Our goal is to make you feel at home, help you unwind, relax and have a great time among friends.

Oddly located in the other Chinatown “East-End that is”, it caught the attention of Toronto’s food critics and received rave revues.

Diner Reviews
  • "Cassoulet, terrine, frites with tarragon mayo. All delicious. Batifôle is always good. The best French in toronto hands down."

  • "I hadn't been to Batifole in over a year and I regret not coming back sooner! Service was very friendly and personable. They did an excellent job describing the food a answering various questions. Timing was spot on when it came to serving our apps and mains. We didn't feel rushed at all. The menu has changed a little over time but it has maintained a nice creative twist on provincial cuisine. The daily specials were especialy interesting. The wine list has good variety and fairly good price points. I would certainly recommend Batifole to anyone looking for a relaxing unpretentious French dining experience."

  • "I hadn't been in a long while and it was delightful re-discovering this great little restaurant. The service was impeccable and friendly and the cuisine delicious. I will look forward to return!"

  • "This was our first time at Batifole. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety on the menu and wine list. The traditional bouillabaisse was delicious! However, I would've preferred a lot less salt in all the dishes. The entrees were so over-seasoned that by the end of the meal my tongue was numb. But the friendly and helpful staff made the dining experience enjoyable."

  • "Recommended by a family foodie and it lived up to the recommendation. Food was excellent, a quality preparation and great ingredients. Service was unobtrusive yet attentive. Wine selections were unusual, fun and appropriate to our requested flavour profile. We'll be back for sure."

  • "Very French and very good! A tiny little restaurant with great ambiance and excellent service. The menu is limited, but there are also daily specials which never fail to please. My guests and I have tried almost all offerings on several visits and have never been disappointed. A real gem in an area full of cheap Chinese and Vietnamese fare."

  • "Though we do not live nearby Batifole, from time to time we visit the restaurant for some consistently high quality food and a decent wine selection. The service is always competent and professional while still being warm and personal. Definitely one of my "indugences.""

  • "The food is a wonderful variation of French cuisine, well prepared and nicely presented. The service on a busy Valentine evening was outstanding. Best of all one is able to sit and enjoy a relaxed evening with the courses well spaced and no sense of being rushed to finish. The arrangement of the tables gave us a sense of privacy even though the restaurant is small."

  • "The food was pretty good...but everything was very salty. I am also one who actually likes salty foods but even I felt it could have used less. We had mussels, escargots, the dory, duck two ways, and apple tart for dessert. The service was friendly and helpful."

  • "We hadn't been to the restaurant for a while and were pleasantly surprized by what we found. The place has changed hands and the new owner is Pascal. We were told that he is orginally from Provence. The restaurant is decorated in an eclectic style which is a bit hard to place but seems to work very well. We had a prix fixe meal and the highlight was the Bouillabaisse. The dish had a hearty broth and was lightly spiced so that you could taste the fish, clams, squid and mussels. We dipped the amazing fresh french bread and butter in the sauce which left us completely satiated. We paired the meal with the house rose which was very good. All in all we had a very nice meal on a snowy Tuesday night. We would definately return."

  • "What more is there to say than excellent food and service on all counts. We were a party of six and not a single complaint. We were able to enjoy each others company over some of the best french food in town. A bit hard to read the wine list (dim lighting). Worth many more visits. What a neighbourhood gem (and we are from the other side of town.)."

  • "Batofole is a charming bistro. The menu is an homage to the traditional food of France, but with wonderful innovations. For Example: Cassoulette d'Escargot a ma Façon is a savoury stew that bathes the escargots in amazing flavours. It was so good I wanted another for desert. The service was surprisingly informal, but excellent. They went out of their way to make us welcome and comfortable on a cold autumn night. This place is definitely on my must revisit list."

  • "We were there for dinner on a weekend. We chose this restaurant based on reviews here and we were not disappointed. Food and service were amazing! Menu was small but with good varieties. Both the presentation and the taste were excellent. Portion was just right. We had a wonderful evening. Will definitely go back."

  • "They call themselves "the best French restaurant in Chinatown", but I would say they are one of the best in the city. This place is a real gem in an unlikely setting, located at the very eastern edge of Chinatown on Gerrard Street East.. Food and service are outstanding. The menu is small but still manages to offer lots of choice. Portions are generous. For main courses my friend had the veal liver and I had the "duck two ways".....a duck leg confit with slices of tender duck breast over top, served with muscat grapes. Absolutely divine! The only negative is that the décor definitely needs some attention. The room feels quite bare and needs something to warm it up. Table coverings and more comfortable chairs would help a lot."

  • "We went on a Thursday with our Living Social voucher, and it was for a souffle dinner. My wife, being allergic to eggs, had to go a la carte, and the server made a strong effort to accommodate that, even with our voucher. Our server was incredible to us all night, really. Crab bisque: Hot, not too salty. Went well with the bread stick inside that had a generous amount of delicious cream on it. I'd order it again. Cold tomato soup: I don't like cold soups generally, but this worked. Crab souffle: Savory, soft. Nice to have a souffle main! Cassoulet: Very healthy meat portions that were tasty. Marmalade & Grand Marnier souffle dessert: orange, sugar, souffle. Delicious."
