  • "Brilliant atmosphere, felt as if we were in some magical place and not in Houston. Food is delicious but the service is slow"

  • "Excellent tapas and flavor in the food! Can choose between adorable outdoor patio with a view of downtown courtyard or sit inside with live music. My only complaint was it took a waiter 15 minutes to greet us at the table, and it was only when we told the hostess that we hadn't been seen yet. The wait staff seemed confused on who was supposed to pick up our table (we sat outside). Other than that, The waitress was very apologetic and helpful with answering questions about their menu. Favorites were the PORK BELLY and PORK RIBS and Kale Salad. Overall, the excellent food and great atmosphere! Definitely will need to come back to try the paella."

  • "Made a reservation, but when we arrived there was only seating available outside."

  • "There are way too many restaurants in this town to waste your time or money at Batanga."

  • "waitress was a bit dingy and it was kind of loud but overall Great food, wonderful mojitos, Probably the best patio in Houston, LIVE music."

  • "Batanga is just that. Food is great, service is prompt, friendly and attentive. Bacon wrapped dates and paella are not to be missed. Wine list is carried and prices are reasonable. If you're a tapas person this is a place to go."

  • "Headed to Batanga for a date night with my super hard to please gf and she was in love. The ambiance was just right, not to dark or loud. We ordered calamari, bacon wrapped dates, hangar steak, olives, and beet salad. Everything was delicious and slightly different from the typical. My only regret we didn't bring more people so we could sample more dishes."

  • "Went for a quick dinner here before heading to the cinema on a Sunday night. We were advised that you needed about 3 tapas dishes per person so that's what my husband and I ordered - in fact, we probably could have managed with only 5 between us. Our friends shared a 2-person paella and 2 tapas dishes and came nowhere close to finishing the paella - it was huge! All of our tapas was good though, and our friends liked the paella, and food was served quickly. If we're in the area again, would certainly consider going back to try more of the tapas dishes."

  • "I would recommend for the good brunch drink prices and the food was pretty good but we did have two dirty glasses that we had to notify the waitress about and we had to beg then to do separate checks and there were only 4 of us. On the menu it says no separate checks for groups of 8 or more so that was misleading! Service was slightly slow even though the restaurant wasn't full but the staff was nice."

  • "The tapas we selected were okay. The big beef dish pretty good. Liked the fries. Compared to the other tapas place (spanish tapas) & expected more from Batanga. Ambiance is fantastic. Not a fan of Brazilian music."

  • "Our server came by to take drink orders & asked for our food selections at the same time. One would think she'd offer to put drink orders in and then come back, but she just stood there looking at us while we looked at menu. Food arrived and it was good. We inquired about our glasses of wine. We inquired a 2nd and 3rd time, but no luck. My husband went to bar & ordered wine and brought it back to table for us. The wine we originally ordered showed up after we were done eating. We requested bill - we were charged twice for two items and charged for a dish we didn't order. We considered asking for mgr, but by this time the experience was a joke. Overall score of fair only because food was very good."

  • "One if the benefits of downtown living is a vibrant restaurant scene. Batanga fit that nicely. We had a taps sampler of 8 tapas, ranging from fish tacos to yucca fries, and a bonus 50% off bottles of wine on Sundays! Great fun, good food. Definitely a return trip in the future."

  • "While our waiter was friendly, the delivery staff was awful. Food was literally pitched onto the table and no care was made to where it was placed. In a tapas restaurant you want to make sure everyone at the table has access to the food. The food resembled dog food at times and tasted like mediocre fast food. The food was something I would be appalled at serving in my own home."

  • "this restaurant is just ok, nothing amazing or extravagant. would not go back. bill still ended up >$100 for 2 people and the food was not that memorable."

  • "We went here for Houston returaunt week and ended up having an entirely awful expierence. I got the cucumber and avocado salad, the steak, and the tres leches. It took sometime to get the salad which wouldn't have been an issue if the salad wasn't awful. There was so much lemon juice on the thing that it was difficult to eat.Everything up to this point was tolerable it wasn't until we waited for almost an hour to get our steak only seeing our waitor once that my girlfriend and i started to get upset. However after seeing an overcooked steak that looked like it had sat under a heat lamp that we began to get really annoyed. Then we tried to eat the steak. The steak was disgusting.if we didn't have to meet someone I would've sent it back and left"

  • "Really enjoyed Batanga for dinner. Food was great and our server was very helpful in picking dishes and drinks to compliment them. Each dish was great! We sat inside, but the patio area is awesome. Would go again and probably go for brunch next time."

  • "Really great! Had only been here for lunch before. Made a reservation for a work diner. Although I was late the hostess was very nice and our waiter coulnd't have been better. The group was happy about having tapas/small bites because it allowed everyone to taste a little of everything. Very authentic cocktails!!!!!"

  • "Enjoyed an early dinner here. Service was properly attentive. Food was good but not great. However, the Happy Hour pricing on select drinks and food made it a real bargain. Ribs were meaty though a bit fatty and served a bit lukewarm. Califlower dish was good but lacked punch - a bit bland. Four small plates made a nice dinner for two."

  • "Enjoyed a relaxing brunch; "easy" guitar music in the background; welcoming host; capable, courteous wait staff. Enjoyed the mimosas. Recommend it as a nice brunch spot."

  • "ambience is great. Service was nice. But food was a disappointment :( grilled octopus was too chewy. the rest of tapas were not memorable. I wanted to love the place w it's location and ambience but the food didn't hold up."

  • "Ordered 5 tapas items for 3 men at lunch. The food was good and there was plenty for a very reasonable bill. Empenadas were especially good."

  • "Fun tapas, some standard and some with a twist. Our waitress was friendly but not very adventurous when recommending food. For example, she doesn't like sushi so didn't like the fabulous sashimi plate...glad we ordered it anyway, didn't know what was on the charcuterie plate. When kitchen staff delivered the plate and he was asked what was on it he seemed put out and called the chorizo and Italian sausage and misidentified the manchego. No matter, we enjoyed our meal. Don't have the flan unless you like overcooked rubbery custard."

  • "The food is always great here. I highly recommend the Sunday brunch. However, this evening they did not have four of our favorite Tapas. It may be best to call to make sure they have a full menu. This was a Sunday evening."

  • "At first we were a little disappointed with the original host with a non-welcoming greeting and for mentioning we would need to wait an hour beyond our reservation. We were suggested to go to the bar. We were put off and almost left, but I thought I would give the hostess another chance. As it turned out she had left and there was another hostess that seated us immediately. After the little hiccup, we had a great waiter, music, food and even better drinks. Recommend making a reservation as the place fills quickly and it is hot outside. Enjoy."

  • "We had reservations for 6 at 9:15 Saturday. First time there. Drinks over priced and very small. Have to say the list is creative, but deflated my excitement once we received them. Hostess was very polite. Looked at the clock, it took us literally 45 minutes after we seated before the waiter came by to take our food order. Food was seriously pretentious, overpriced for what you got, and overall underwhelming. Over cooked, bland, and not impressive, especially for foodies. Band was great, not all of it was brazilian, but was still good. Place has a nice charm, spacious and not over crowded. If I go there again, it will be only for the music. I'd be eating and drinking somewhere else."

  • "A friend recommended this place for an end-of-season office celebration. It was just right. The restaurant serves great Latin American tapas and phenomenal cocktails. Our waiter, Rigo, was continually attentive and very helpful. With an eclectic selection of meats, vegetable dishes, seafood and snacks, you can sample just what you want and make the meal fit everybody's tastes. I'll be heading here again soon."

  • "This was a business lunch. The food, presentation and service were all good. I expected a little more flavor or spice - not heat necessarily - as it is a Latin place. The food was good just not as 'punched up' as I was expecting. The ambience was perfect - we were able to hold a discussion without constantly having to escalate our voices as you have to do in some places. All around a good experience and I will return."

  • "We did Sunday brunch. We ordered two of the specialty brunch cocktails and were advised that they were not making them that day. Okay we made alternative selections but the specialty drink menu was quite small so found it odd that they declined to prepare two of them. We ordered a salad and were advised that chef was not making that today. We were wondering if we had made a poor choice in dining he. We persevered and made some additional selections. They were all available what's more they were outstanding! Batanga is significantly above the other Houston tapas houses. Each of our selections were freshly prepared with excellent ingredients. We will return!"

  • "I chose Batanga to dine with friends for my birthday. I got there by the time and there was no table ready, my friends were finding spots for parking and by the time half of them got there the table was not ready. The crew were really kind but it kinda bothered me the table was not ready by the time we were there. Aside of it, the food was great and the live music not that bad. Of course i am coming back :D"

  • "We went there on a Saturday night, had reservations, the hostess was not friendly our welcoming, the server was terrible, not friendly at all just took our order and never came back to check on us. I had to wave him down to try to get him to refill our drinks and for the check. Overall our dining experience was awful, very disappointed."

  • "I had high hopes and booked lunch with a friend on a Saturday. There were about 8 customers in the entire place, and the World Cup was on the TV. The volume was DEAFENING, and for no reason since there was no one there talking much. I had to ask to have the sound turned down, and even then it was too loud. Food was mediocre. Will not go back."

  • "My wife and I had a great time at Batanga's last week for dinner. We ordered the 6 tapas plate which was more than enough for the two of us. Every one of them was fantastic. Our favorite one was the fish tacos - one order comes with three fish tacos that are very tasty. Ambience was nice, but it seemed unusually loud based on the number of people there, but not to the point where we couldn't hear each other. Service was great. Wine selection is very good, but the draft beer selection is lacking. Definitely recommend."

  • "A group of friends and came to Botanga before a show at the Alley Theater. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was great, and the service was wonderful. We actually enjoyed it so much we came back after the show for some drinks and desert. I highly recommend Botanga and we plan on being back very soon."

  • "A wonderful meal that was blunted by the overwhelming salt content. We ordered 11 tapas and virtually all were oversalted. It's a shame that my party, wife, daughter and grandchildren (all foodies) all commented on how good the basic food and seasonings were, except for the overwhelming salt content. Verdict: excellent service, nice outdoor scene, interesting and varied choices...hey chef, you are in great shape, just bench the salt!!!"

  • "Had lunch for my first experience. Server was not knowledgable of the menu and was slow. Had the kale salad, chicken and fish tacos, and eggplant fries. Kale salad was best. Fish tacos were bland. Chicken tacos were literally nothing more than chicken in a corn tortilla. Presentation could be improved. Not sure I'd be in a rush to return."

  • "Poor service and mediocre food. We selected 10 or so items and the mushroom croquettes were the best of the lot. When asked what the house red was, the server replied 'savignon blanc'. When told that was probably a white wine, he said he would ask the bartender. He returned and again said it was 'savignon blanc'. We went with the house 'red' anyway, and it was quite acceptable."
