  • "We went for Easter brunch and were disappointed. Firstly I ordered mojito and it was extremely tart, we ordered ceviche and were told it was no longer available, my friend ordered eggs benedict and it came later than everyone else's and was cold. We asked for more wine and it was 20 mins still no wine. Waiter seemed absent minded and inattentive. To their credit they gave us a couple of extra dishes for free but overall not the best dining experience. Have been before and it was good."

  • "I love Batanga. The live music on the weekends makes it great to come out at night and have some good food and amazing time listening to the band. My one problem is that the service is sometimes not the greatest. This most recent time our waitress kept forgetting to check up on us, when she did we had to remind her a few times that we ordered two drinks, not just one, she kept only bringing one of our drinks out. Also they brought our 6 orders of tapas all out at once within the 10 minutes of ordering. Great place none the less."

  • "A perfect spot for a long overdue get together with friends. Service, ambiance and food were exceptional. We enjoyed a couple selections from each of the menu sections and loved every bite. Highlights were the Bacon Wrapped Dates, Cauilflower & Chayote Cazuela, and Castillian Style Pork Ribs but I couldn't choose one dish I would have missed. The patio was beautiful, comfortable, and full of people enjoying the gorgeous evening outdoors....just the spot for a few mojitos with tapas."

  • "Upon arriving at the restaurant, we requested the patio and were told to sit wherever we liked. It took at least 15 minutes before someone came to take our order. The food came out rather quickly; however, most of it was very small portioned for the price and was somewhat bland. We ordered the eggplant fries, which tasted like a savory beignet and needed more salt; the shrimp tacos, which seemed to be mounted with more greens than anything else and needed more salt; and the hangar steak with truffle vinaigrette and chimmichurri sauce on the side, which was soooo small in portion (but the chimmicurri was delicious). I would say that we'd try again at a less busy time, but the patio was not full and indoors was practically empty."

  • "Great tapas and great drinks! It's great for a group of people where you can share all the tapas. I loved the eggplant fries, the mushroom croquettes, and the flank steak. It was all delicious though!"

  • "Our experience at Batanga was really great. If you are in the mood for snacking or tapas I highly recommend this restaurant. We were able to pass around 5-6 dishes and feed four people easily. What makes this restaurant so great is the patio area. Comfrotable chairs and greenery make you feel like you are indeed south of the border, and not in the heart of a metropolitan city."

  • "This is our third time at Batanga and I am still not impressed. I really want to like this place but the food always falls short. The charcuterie plate was very small for a price of $12. Chickpea puree was standard fare. The biggest disappointment was the duck confit arepas. It has no flavor and the arepa was tough and chewy. It's such a shame the food is subpar because the patio is one of the best in the city."

  • "I would not recommend for large groups. I took a large group of visitors to Houston. While the food was fabulous and the experience was nice and comfortable there was a large mistake in the bill and the manager sent the waiter to tell me that it could not be corrected and there was no attempt to work it out. I was just told "no". I will not be returning."

  • "Perhaps Sunday brunch isn't really Batanga's thing or perhaps it was just my high expectation for something different that caused my disappointment. My friend and I didn't want the "usual" for Sunday Brunch and thought Batanga might be a good option, but unfortunately it was a miss. Our server was friendly enough, but was not quite familiar with the menu items. The server in training was walking around with a toothpick hanging from the corner of his mouth. My friend ordered the Pozole and it was basically just a bowl of hominy with some pork. I had the smoked fish platter and although it was nicely presented it just wasn't thrilling. One bright note, we did enjoy our carafe of mimosa. Batanga is a GREAT place for Tapas though."

Once at table it took them about yen minutes to greet us another ten just to get water and well you get what im saying. The food was decent but nothing to boast about.   • "This past Saturday I was able to make memories of my young times when I lived at Mexico City. At that time I used to enjoyed my weekend nights at what is called a "Peña", a nice place to enjoy tapas, good company and excelent International Music. The place is blessed with such a wonderful band that armonizes the atmosphere. Musicians of heart that transmit the energy of the Samba music, with a delightful feminine voice of Fanny, that sings in Engish, Spanish and Portuguese. Bongos, guitar, timbals, percutions, accordion and piano sounds rejoyce the spirit aligned with a superior service provided with a courteous smile of a future professonal colombian soccer player that believes in the "American Dream". A DELIGHTFUL NIGHT TO REMEMBER!"

  • "Large interesting menu of tapas (2-3 per person). Much fun for our party of four to taste from the 10 tapas we ordered. We were surprised that food was reasonably priced as well. Stand-outs included the mussels, calamari, and dates. Only problem was the pacing. Too many dishes came at one time."

  • "Three of us had an early dinner post-theater-matinee on Saturday. As we dined at 4:30pm, seating wasn't an issue so I can't judge how noisy the restaurant might be when crowded. We chose the '8-dish selection', which provided good value and a chance to sample multiple dishes. Two of the tapas we selected were beyond stellar: bacon-wrapped dates and calamari, while the others were excellent: grilled panela cheese, quail, patatas Batanga, pork ribs, duck confit arepa, and empanada de carne. Two of us tried the "orange-ginger caipirinha" which was fabulous, albeit a tad sweet. We had flan, which was delicious. We all agreed the food and service were wonderful and that we would come back when the weather was nicer se we could dine outside."

  • "Food was true to Spanish style particularly the pig ears, potato bravas and octopus. Really enjoyed the patio on a gorgeous spring night in Houston. Service was spotty. Our waitress messed up 3 times (brought wrong item ordered, brought wrong wine and we never received one item). Wished there were more Spanish wines on the list. Also need to serve the red wines at cellar temp not room temp !"

  • "inner was early, so the scene was great; not to crowded. The tapas wee interesting and everything we tried was great. Though the weather did not permit, the large open patio would be wonderful on a nice night, and I understand the Sunday brunch is excellent. My only concern, and its not a big one, is that the place can be noisy when things get crowded later in the evening. Go early if you prefer a quieter setting; go later for the music, night-life activities."

  • "The most romantic Valentine's dinner ever in my 45 years of existence. Downtown Houston is scenic for me because I love this city. Food was amazing and the staff there helped pull off a beautiful surprise Valentine "half time." Roses and Gifts we delivered to the table between the meal and desert. :) I couldn't have done it without these guys! Fun place with a fantastic pace! Don't forget the live Samba music! The other patrons were all smiles during the evening if that helps you get a feel for a wonderful experience. Thanks Batanga!"

  • "I had a great dinner with my girlfriend. The food was expedited fast, my wine was served promptly, the service was accurate. There was one order we didn't ask for, but the server rapidly took over and solve the situation. Overall, I really enjoy having dinner at Batanga. Food wise, there are a lot of option we can chose from, the duck arepa was my favorite, but the empanadas weren't as good as I expect them."

  • "Large selection of wines; the two we selected were terrible - Couldn't wait to get home for a nice glass of Merlot. We decided Batanga instead of another restuarant becasue the live music was to start at 730pm per the web site/ phone confirmation. Turns out the music was late; did not start till 9pm...Big mistake was that we waited for the Band to arrive/set up...Bad mistake, music was terrible!!!"

  • "Me and my gf went to Batanga with great expectations on Valentines eve. We both are a great fan of dining with live music. The atmostphere was good overall. We made a choice to sit outside which we regreted since a couple next to us was constantly smoking. The food was basically latin fusion Tapas. We did not like the food as it was bland and not so tasty. Our server forgot us after bringing us first round of drinks. We ordered 4 plates, our first 3 plates arrived within 15 minutes of our order which is not bad. However, the last plate apparently arrived after an hour when we were ready for our check."

While weather prevented outdoor dining, the patio looks to be an oasis in otherwise sparse Houston downtown. Service attentive and intelligent, not stiff or overbearing. Overall, enjoyed very much, will return- include time for neighborhood offerings in the bar scene..."
