  • "The food was excellent, I enjoyed all of my courses. Overall the ambiance was great, cozy and homey but not cramped. I liked the small size of the place and that it is a bit tucked away in town....a good romantic spot. There are a few interior finishes/architectural details that could be improved but this didn't really detract from my overall experience. I would love to go back again and try some more of their offerings!"

  • "I was here for restaurant week with a friend. It took them 25 minutes to greet us after we were seated...I complained to management. A party that arrived after us, was greeted before us. Besides that, the food was pretty good. Nothing amazing. Besides the lateness, our server was pretty friendly. I had the shrimp beignets, lamb chops, and peach desert. The beignets were interesting, pretty good. The lamb chops were a bit chewy and not plentiful, only 2. But very tasty. The peach desert was near perfect. It was not too sweet and very well put together. I might consider returning, hopefully the service will be better next time."

  • "So, Bastille is always delicious. Restaurant week was no exception. Patrick was our waiter, and he was wonderful. He made terrific suggestions, and every single one of them was an absolute hit. My favorite were the scallops. They were cooked perfectly. My friend had the lamb… Oh my goodness! That lamb was the best I think I've ever had. I'm never disappointed when I go to this restaurant. You won't be either. Oh and don't forget to have a glass of the Bordeaux; it's always delicious!"

  • "Went for lunch during restaurant week, had a fantastic meal. Thank god I don't eat like that every day however or I'd be 500lbs. The burrata cheese was so fantastic, I'd go back just for that."

  • "This place never fails to amaze. The dishes are almost all always outstanding, creative and beautifully presented and of good size for the price. Service is always good, staff friendly and pleasant ambiance. We have eaten here about seven times in last two years and never have been disappointed. Just this week I went with four guys to lunch and aside from each of them loving every dish, they totally cleaned their plates to the last drop. Also, the wine list has a very balanced and good selection of wines for all tastes and budgets. Go - Bastille!"

  • "This is always one of our favorites for special occasions. We tried it for restaurant week and were not disappointed. There were a wide variety of choices with the same high quality as the regular menu. The mussels in particular were outstanding."

  • "Came for Restaurant Week Lunch and was greatly impressed. Will be back with guests later in the year."

  • "Just an exceptional experience (again). I've never had bad service but this latest visit Patrick was particularly kind to this solo diner. It was a beautiful night so I sat outside for the first time. Other than the occasional plane departing Reagan Washington National (which I enjoy watching) it was very peaceful. I have never been disappointed with any menu choice. Highly recommend."

  • "The hanger steak was the best I have ever tasted. Our waiter was friendly. The maître seemed quite out of sorts however."

  • "This was my first time at Bastille. All of my 3 courses: Escargot, duck and peach dessert was delicious even the ice tea! Outstanding! Just love it! Would love to take my parents here sometime! Environment and our lady server are excellent too!"

  • "Wonderful food in a small, intimate setting. We went during restaurant week and the selections were off of the regular menu. They did not include the regular prices on the menu so we were unable to tell what the cost of our meal would have been."

  • "We came for restaurant week. The menu was amazing - couldn't have asked for more. Great to have such a top notch place in the north end of Old Town."

  • "First visit to Bastille & the experience guarantees that we'll be back again. This North Old Town Alexandria location is unmatched for its uniqueness. Wife had the scallops & me the duck breast. Both were prepared flawlessly & perfectly matched with the wine recommended by our waitress. It was a beautiful evening so we opted for the patio dining but the interior of Bastille is also quite beautiful. They have a great happy hour deal at the bar during the week which will bring us back during non-Restaurant Week times. Give Bastille a try!"

  • "We found the pairing of the salmon and the sides to be spectacular. One of the best we've had. Kudos to the chef. We also enjoyed interacting with the wait staf. We found our waiter very knowledgable about the menu and food in general. He also has a flair for chatting with us and keeping the mood of the evening very light. We truely enjoyed the experience, are stil talking about it several days later, and will go back again."

  • "My husband and I had lunch at Bastille during Restaurant Week. I had arugula with goat cheese cromesqui, peaches and pecans; duck confit with peaches and roasted vegetables, and the Valrhona pot de creme. My husband had the beignets, the beef burger with cheddar cheese and french fires, and the peach melba almond streusel. Both of our lunches were delicious. The service was efficient and friendly. We ate outside on the lovely patio since it was a lovely day with low humidity. The only downside was that when jets taking off from National Airport which is close by took a southerly flight path, conversation was a bit difficult. Luckily there were not many of them. We will definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "The food was OK, the service was OK. Everyone was perfectly nice, but the service just didn't work - no continuity and they actually felt very distant in a sense. There was nothing special, nothing delicious, nothing overwhelming about the food (or the place generally). We went for Restaurant Week, and normally I have great experiences with Restaurant Week, but there was nothing that would make me want to go back and pay for a full priced meal at Bastille. Also, there is not enough outdoor lighting for dining at night - I could barely see my food."

  • "Service was very good. Food could be better. The onglet was very chewy but the sauce was delicious. Fries reminded me of boardwalk fries which use the same oil over and over again. The fries need to be crisp with a slight crunch, not soggy."

  • "Tucked away on an off street, this place is amazing. The food was great, really easy to find parking, however, I do recommend reservations. It's a pretty small space, so you may have to wait a while."

  • "We finally made it to Bastille for Restaurant Week and it actually exceeded our expectations. We were a party of 4, each person getting a different app, entree, and dessert. Everything was delicious. I will say, however, I was jealous of my boyfriend's burger. Smith Meadow Farm beef burger, duck confit, foie gras, caramelized onion marmelade, aioli, tomato = Heaven. I had the chicken, tried the duck breast, sampled the pork chop and they were all very tasty but that burger, oh, that burger. While the food was amazing the staff was equally as wonderful. The hostess was attentive, the sommelier and the bartender made the wait for our table painless and our server was personable and very helpful. We will be back soon."

  • "I have been to Bastille before and was excited to come for Restaurant Week. The menu presented for RW was exceptional with wonderful choices, and probably the best meal that I've had at Bastille. Thank you for not shortchanging us RW diners."

  • "Hands down, the best restaurant week experience I've had so far. I did six different restaurants that week, and Bastille was by far the best deal. I loved that the items on the restaurant week menu were basically the regular menu, and everything was exquisite and cooked to perfection."

  • "I was so pleased with my latest visit to Bastille. My husband and I first visited Bastile in 2012 on the night we got engaged. We went back on August 10, 2014 to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary and we had such an amazing time. The staff was very attentive and brought us complimentary champagne to celebrate the occassion. The food was remarkable and the wine pairings were exceptional. We had the 3 course prix-fix menu and I just cannot say enough good things about the food. But the best part was truly the service. My husband and I truly appreciate a good meal and this was one of the best. The staff was amazing. We stayed for about 2 hours and never once felt rushed. Delightful evevning. I hope we can return soon!"

  • "Very pleasant restaurant, with the exception that when dinning outside, the DCA air traffic makes conversation impossible. Thus, recommend eating inside. The food was very good, although the menu was somewhat narrow and slightly pricey. Overall, this is a good choice for a pleasant Francophile dinning experience."

  • "Mussels are some of the best and they should win a French fries award. The duck confit is excellent. They should make the corn soup a regular addition to the menu it is so good. Khadeja is a gem as a waitress -- she makes an enjoyable experience even more fun."

  • "This was a superb experience. We sat at the bar which gave us a chance to watch all the wine pours, talk to the staff, with a bonus of a 20% food discount. I had corn gazpacho - superb; fish of the day which was perfectly char grilled; and, profiteroles which were very good. The wine pairings were transformingly perfect."

  • "We had a lovely and delicious anniversary dinner at Bastille. We were greeted with a glass of champagne which was such a nice way to start our dinner. The lobster paella and duck entrees were delicious and the service was wonderful! It was my husband's first visit to this restaurant and he was quite impressed!"

  • "Bastille is one our "go to" special places for big events. It is intimate and upscale, but still very comfortable. Food is excellent, and the wine list is very good. The staff cares about their visitors and act like it."

  • "My friends and I rate Bastille as our favorite restaurant in Alexandria. We usually go for lunch, but I would imagine that dinner and brunch are equally delightful. We like the location, the decor, the tranquility, and, most of all, the food. We highly recommend it to others , as it is a unique dining experience."
