Saturday lunch. My wife and I had a B team server who seemed to be doubling as a bartender part of the time and generally not paying much attention. After a very long wait we concluded that he hadn't put in our food order. After we inquired, the food showed up a short time later. The restaurant was not that busy. We've been to Bastille many times and overall this was an aberration -- and so especially disappointing.

French bistro ambiance, produced sourced locally, and amazing food. The vegetable dishes were especially notable. The tomato salad was excellent, and I would go back to order it again. We ordered the three course lunch for $29, and it was just enough. The dessert, creme brule and the pine nut tarte was also fab.

This is a place that is a bit off the beaten track that is well worth the effort to locate. I have eaten at Bastille once or twice a year and am never disappointed. It is charming, the service is professional, and the food is quite good. My ceasar salad, with egg and anchovy was a delight, and my lamb chops were first class. Alexandria is fortun ate to have a restaurant of this quality hidden in its corner.

This was not our first visit to Bastille. We frequent the restaurant because there essentially is no down side to the dining experience. The ambiance is warm and friendly, and the service is excellent. The menu is diverse, with something for every taste, as is the wine list, the charcuterie and cheese offerings. Finally, there may be no more romantic spot in the Old Town Alexandria area than dining on the Bastille patio on a warm and clear evening.

I had the duck confit and it was delicious. My friend and I brought my mother for her birthday and we ate outside for lunch. It was delightful. The waterfall and softly playing music created a nice backdrop to our conversation. Mom was given a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate. Nice touch. our waiter was warm, friendly, answered questions easily. Wish we had stayed for the dessert! - we were full and thought we would find the bakeries but never did on our walk.

MY first time at Bastille, but my friend whom I met for lunch recommended it. He and I sat on the patio, and I never set foot inside the restaurant, so I can't comment about it. However, on a beautiful day, it was lovely sitting outside and the food (mussels for me, risotto for him), was delicious and the service attentive. I want to go back and try the inside. Oh, the plane traffic on the Potomac wasn't bad....

We did the 4 course tasting menu. 1st course - Grilled Calamari + Foie Gras 2nd course - Summer Tomatoes with feta + Burratta and compressed melon 3rd course - Duck + Griller Lobster Paella 4th course - Blackberry Moose cake + Cheese The highlights Foie Gras, compressed melon, Lobster and Cheese. However, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the items we had. Plus, the wine pairings were very nice. I will be back to try Bastille again.

My wife and I dined at Bastille last week. The dining room was already quite full and loud at around 8pm, so we opted for a much more quiet table outside. Our server was very cordial and accommodating, and we each chose the 4-course prix-fixe. I had read excellent online reviews, and ordered some of the popular dishes (escargots -- they serve the morsels w/o the shells, which was good; squid, fish.) While we appreciated the robust flavors and well-constructed dishes, we felt that every dish was a bit too busy, i.e. too many different things on the plate. Simpler presentation would have been better. Still, given the great service and quality meal, it was an enjoyable dining experience, and worth the price.

We had an 8:15pm reservation for three and our table was waiting when we arrived. Every seat in the restaurant, including the bar, was filled. The noise level was a bit high, but overall not too bad. There was a rather loud person at the bar rather close to our table. He left about 1 minuted before we left! The food was delicious, as usual. I had the duck confit and it was just wonderful. My mother had the seafood special - a fish stew - which she ate every bit of, and my husband had the steak a poivre which he loved.

The restaurant looks nice and has a good atmosphere for special occasions. The food, especially the desserts, looked nice and was well presented. The food tasted below average. I ordered a ribeye served with a wine reduction and my girlfriend ordered the mussels. The ribeye did not have a proper sear and the wine reduction had an overpowering peppery taste. The mussels were a little better but were a little over salted.

This was my first--but definitely not last--time eating at Bastille. Top notch service!! I know that chefs don't like me. If I order a steak, it needs to be medium well to well. I took a chance, and without a doubt, it was the best steak I've ever had. Not burned on the outside. Juicy on the inside. Perfectly well done. Excellent choices for the cheese board. And the wine selection--WOW! Simply put, you won't regret eating here.

Found a hair in my salad. Asked them to remove the salad which was half eaten. I wasn't offered a replacement and when the bill came, they credited me $5.80 for the salad. It was a real in your face kind of move. The Caesar is $8 0r $9 ala carte. Maybe they thought I was some kind of scam artist or they don't care for anyone complaining about their food. But to pro rate what I had eaten of a clearly unsanitary salad was rude and uncalled for. I didn't ask for a replacement nor did I get ugly about it. So their response was truly unbelievable. I would steer clear of Bastille -- food okay but their attitude was shocking. Au Revoir, Bastille.

I always enjoy the food, and the location is convenient with plenty of parking. My only criticism is for this particular visit. My wife and I asked for outside seating, but there were two tables for four, and we didn't want to wait for a table for two outside. We were seated inside, unfortunately on a break in the banquette, which was not very comfortable. When we left there were at least two tables for four inside and some outside that had one or two people at them. It would be nice if they were more responsive to the wishes of returning customers with reservations rather than waiting for the slight possibility of larger walk-ins.
