  • "Food here is consistently great and I have had excellent service on previous visits however this time it was fair. I did not appreciate the server arguing with me about how I wanted my steak cooked. The menu states that steaks cooked beyond medium cannot be guaranteed together same tenderness. That said, I understood exactly what I was risking when placing my order.I typically order medium well which gives me the exact amount of pink that I enjoy. I thought it rude that she felt the need to question my choice then inform me that she was going to put the order in as medium medium. Had I been alone I would not have stayed but my friend was looking forward to his first meal there."

  • "Finally went to Bastien's, with a Groupon, on a Saturday evening. I've been around that place many times wondering if it was ever open, the outside looks so dumpy! But you open the front door, and WOW! Frank Sinatra on the walls, Rat Pack singing, the place is super awesome inside! And there are multiple levels to the place. ordered the famed sugar-steak, and it was cooked to perfection. What a delicious caramelized sear! My date ordered the Cajun steak, which he could not stop talking about, especially the shrimp sauce that covered it. We were too full for dessert, but will definitely be back! Oh, and the drinks were pretty good too. I enjoyed a couple of delicious sidecars...very happy with our visit to Bastien's."

  • "I had high expectations for the food and low expectations for the service going in. However, having to wait for 15 mins at the hostess desk to be seated when I had a reservation was a terrible first impression. The steak was cooked well, but really just ok. The flower garnishes were very amateur and silly on the plate. Also, the canned olives stuffed with blue cheese were a poor choice to put in the drinks. I get that this place is on Colfax, but the experience across the entire board is really mediocre for the price."

  • "The choices at Bastien's seem endless when it comes to, "How do you like your steak?" Culinary choices abound. I usually stay with their famous Sugar Steak, which is just amazing on it's own, but they have so many choices and preparations. I could find something different to eat every day of the week and not get tired of it! They have been around a very long time, and the decor proves it. It's housed in a rotunda, or round building that is dated and the decor is dated as well. The bathrooms definitely need updated. The food and service is so good, that I believe the decor should match it more. It's tired and old. The food is worth the trip, though. We drove from Highlands Ranch to East Colfax for their great food. The prices are reasonable."

  • "I've been coming here for quite a while. Salad is no special deal but they should give you more dressing if you request it. The twice baked potato still needs a ton of butter but it has good flavor. House veggies are just OK. The sugar steak is their signature but I still prefer the ribeye and they prefer to do the sugar steak as a NY strip. This time it was over-cooked but you just can't send it back here. They always act like you've sinned by telling them they didn't cook it correctly. Yes I go back but it's only for those LS or Groupon specials. Oh ya, remember to avoid the seafood here. They are a steakhouse, not a seafood house!"

  • "Although this restaurant has been a Landmark here in Denver for many years, it's one that you would normally just drive by as you were driving on Colfax Ave. Luckily my wife and I decided one evening to try it and we were hooked!!! The best steak on the menu is the Sugar Steak, amazing. Since our first visit, we have been back 5 more times and this was roughly a year ago. As you walk in you feel as though the Rat Pack will be right around the corner sitting in one of the booths slamming down martinis. Really cool environment. A++++++++++ in my opinion."

  • "This is what my husband and I had for Christmas dinner and it was exquisite. Cooked to perfection with a touch of Bernaise, it was a special meal and suited the occassion. My husband and I have dined here on a few occassions and the food, especially the steaks are consistently very good. The 50's steakhouse atmosphere is funky and fun."

  • "A great friend of mine took me to dinner, as we pulled up outside I would have NEVER known that we were going to have such a fabulous meal with a nice looking dining area. The outside is rather dated looking however it sticks true to the era it was built. The inside is completely different and the food is simply AMAZING! Their steaks are right on! You can not go wrong! I did not try the sugar steak but my friend assures me that it is just to die for! The only thing I wont recommend is their cosmo's.. I am not sure if it was the acidity in the drink mixing poorly with the metal, yes metal martini glass or it was just not well made but it was not something I will try again."
