The menu reads like foodie-only fare, with interesting ingredients and unique combinations, but the flavors were good in a traditional sense. Don't be afraid to try something that sounds strange! There are better pizzas in the Denver/boulder area, but this place is the total package. What allows this is the quality of the crust which happens to be some of the best anywhere. All the ingredients and processes here are top notch. Try the pork belly and leek burrata. The service is fantastic and the food's amazing, their wood-fired pizzas have the best crust ever...it's like a thick crepe! For starters, you have to try the Burrata, it's a very fresh italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream, the outer shell is solid mozzarella and the inside is a creamy luscious blend of the two that just seeps out when you cut it. Served on top of braised leaks and house made pancetta with a side of crostini...delicious! And to top our evening off perfectly we had the campfire vanilla ice-cream (which is not to be missed!) and if you're really lucky, they'll have the fresh mint ice-cream...I almost fell out of my chair! My husband and I have been going to Basta pretty regularly over the last 6 months, so we have had a good chance to explore the menu. And for me a favorable review always comes down to the food. If a restaurant can't knock my socks off...no five stars for it! Basta never fails to knock 'em off!
So, enjoy the pizza, but don't miss out on some of their other gems: lasagna, beef short ribs (OMG!), burrata, roasted veggie salad, and of course the famous sous vide pork sandwich. But if you like creatively prepared food at its freshest, then this is the place for you. From the oysters to the barrata, chicken liver mousse or cannel ini beans with squid and octopus, and from the house-made lasagna to the fish or chicken, everything is first-rate. The wine and spirits list is small but well chosen and interesting, selected to complement the food. And the staff and chef sincerely appreciate the business without the hugging and kissing that one can experience elsewhere in this town. Basta is so much more than a pizzeria. Small place with an intimate vibe. Bar looked like a place I could come alone to eat good food and people watch. Took advantage of the 5280 deal and enjoyed the mussels, beef short rib, and the dessert. Indeed, my favorite part of the meal was dessert and I'm usually not one to partake. Try the scopes -- my favorite was the salted caramel. But the donuts with fresh whipped cream was delightful! Service was excellent as everyone was very attentive. The only complaint is that I ordered the short rib and my companions ordered the pizza which took longer to make.
