Diner Reviews
  • "Took out a friend to celebrate her birthday. Food was delightful ;ambience reminiscent of New York style. Waiter seemed a bit harried. All in all a pleasurable dining experience"

  • "Worth the drive from New Hampshire. The staff really cares whether customers are happy with their meals and the level of preparation. My wife is a N. Providence Italian and a great cook. She puts you guys right at the top of her go-to places if she doesn't want to cook at home. Any seafood dish you might order will leap into the top three on your all-time best list. We've been there twice. Even though we now live 2 hours north, we simply had to come back."

  • "Very good service. Full staff levels at 8:00 on a Wednesday night, tells me the ownership strives good service. Great deserts."

  • "Visited Basta's w my wife and another couple and we found the food to outstanding and the service to be the same, however, the portions were small for price we paid. Our foursome had no cocktails and only one desert and the total bill w tip came to $192. A bit pricey. The venue was loud but energetic. It was a Thursday night w a singer but u could barely hear him with the noise generated by the restaurant crowd ."

  • "Food was good as was the service, but the noise was deafening!"

  • "We moved away from RI a number of years ago so we had't been to Basta for a while. It was on our craving list for some time so we made it there for dinner while visiting relatives. I had heard they remodeled but never expected to see such a fantastic, upscale total remodel. Amazing job,,,,, and the food,,,, WOW. I can't wait to go back to RI just to eat there again. The heck with visiting relatives I just want to eat."

  • "It was our second visit, the first indoors. I had scallops and my wife had Chilean sea bass. We split a calimari appetizer. The food was excellent. My only complaint is that when I reviewed my $90 bill I saw I was charged for a refill of my coke. I didn't think anyone did that anymore."

  • "We were a party of 4 and this was our first time dining at Basta. The food was very good, it's a little on the pricey side but it was for a special occasion so that was fine. The interior is decorated very nicely. It looks like they have a nice outside area with a fireplace that we would like to try in the summer. The noise level was very loud but we did not mind but if you're looking for a quiet romatic atmosphere you might want to try somewhere a little more quite. We would definitely return to Basta."

  • "Felt like the server wasn't on his game.. Felt we had better meals there."

  • "We really love this restaurant. It is a wonderful addition to the village of Pawtuxet; more upscale with a cosmopolitan vibe. From the crowds, I suspect Basta is doing very well, however, the noise level during peak hours can be distracting and it does make conversation difficult. I am not sure there is anything that can be done to minimize the noise, nor does it keep us from coming back regularly, but be aware if you are looking for a quiet, romantic setting. We do recommend it and are happy to see it thriving."

  • "I hope that last evenings services improve and that the back off the house had a bad night."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Tables to close. Although food was good, the sauces lacked something. Wild mushroom appetizer was fabulous."

  • "The food was outstanding!!!! The atmosphere was fantastic!! We will be coming back. The host staff was very friendly..... Had been telling my husband about this restaurant...and he loved it also. Had the mussels special as an appetizer....one of the best I have ever had."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "My husband really enjoyed his chicken and risotto dish. I asked for eggplant parm which is not on the menu but there is an eggplant appetizer. It came out on two dishes because the kitchen didn't want to put the appetizer and a side of pasta on one big plate. Wasn't that big of a deal but still a little odd. The eggplant was decent, nothing special and served warm rather than hot. Our dessert was an apple cake with pistachio gelato and it was amazing. We ordered espresso martinis with dessert and they tasted great. On the bill, we noticed our server up sold our martinis to Grey Goose for an extra $2 each without asking us. I felt the up sell on the martini was a way to pad our bill in efforts to get a bigger tip and left with a bad taste."

  • "i love this resturant. the food is just wonderful. however the seating was horrible......... they had table upon table with very little room inbetween.......... it was so Loud & Noisy, we had a hard time speaking amongst the 6 of us.........."

  • "Our reservations were for 8:15, however we weren't seated until 8:40. Which made us upset because there really isn't any place to stand and wait without being in someone's way, not to mention that we were very hungry. No one apologized for the delay in seating us. Once we were seated, the experience was amazing. All of the food was perfectly timed and was delicious. Service was excellent. I would give it another shot."

  • "My wife and I had not been here for many years, so we decided to enjoy a Saturday night dinner. As we walked in, we were met by the host very pleasently. We were shown to our table. Our only complaint would be that the tables are so close you could probably reach over and take a forkful from the next table. The food and service were excellent. I would suggest that they take a few tables out and give the diners a little more room."

  • "The moment you walk from their spacious back parking lot through the outside dining area with a working fireplace; You are welcomed with a warm greeting into this beautiful NY inspired dining room where "Great food","Great service" and an energetic ambiance awaits you. A must try!!!"

  • "We had a reservation set for 8:30, but did not get seated until 9:09. They had to kick people out to allow us to sit. What's the point of a reservation if it isn't met? The waiter was great and went above and beyond; management is my concern. We did not see the manager again for the rest of the night once we were seated."

  • "We made reservations at Basta as it had been renovated and sounded good for our special dinner. We found it had a limited menu when we arrived so the ideas we had were changed. We had excellent salads both the beet and the ceaser very nicely presented and had multi levels of flavors. We had filets for our main course. They were good but not wonderful. The dessert we shared was also good. The waiter was very attentive . WE will probably not return. The food was over priced and portions small."

  • "Basta is a lovely venue and is complimented by good food and entertainment (on given evenings). The beet salad was most enjoyable as was the eggplant appetizer. Other members of the group had the Caesar Salad and felt that it was acceptable. The Pasta Bolognese was tasty."

  • "Basta is beautiful inside, the food and service were great and after dinner, spent some time at the Bar which was a very good time. I look forward to going back in the future."

  • "Went to dinner with friends for Valentines day-made the reservation weeks before...we were seated right next to the entertainment -couldn't hear each other talk. Service was slow, menu was limited, and both pasta dishes were so aldente that the weren't good."

  • "I found it to be very good food, nice wine list and good service. The tables were a little close together and a bit noisy. Hard to find a romantic corner for two. Worth the trip to this neighborhood find."

  • "Had not been to Basta in a few years. It was a good experience. Food and service exceptional. We will plan to go again"

  • "Food is excellent. Service good. Prices reasonable. Plenty of seating for parties of four. Poor seating for parties of two. The chances are, if you are a party of two, you will seat against the wall in a string of dueces. These seats are too close and allow no privacy. It's like cafeteria eating. During my dinner I closely watched the people who were seated in these seats. One couple refused. The others looked at each other and relunctantly sat at the table. I have sat at those tables and it hurt my dining experience. At my wife's wish, we went back but I requested a more private table. It made the dining experinece pleasant. I will not go back unless I can reserve a more private table. My guess many of your couples will do the same."

  • "We live in the area and always loved the food here. But since the renovation, there are more options on the menu and the atmosphere is more fun. A favorite spot!"

  • "The wait time was long even though we had a reservation. There was no where for us to wait, we had to stand by the door with our coats on. The bar was full and the bartenders wouldn't serve us because we were not sitting at the bar we were standing waiting for our table. Poor arrangement - not a good welcoming feel for a first visit to this restaurant. Once seated everything was excellent -- food and service!"

  • "Had a reservation; but decided to sit at the bar instead. Had a great meal and wine! This place was non-stop alll night. Was very lively...have not seen this at a local restaurant in awhile, especially on a cold, snowy (just a dusting) night. I think that speaks volumes!! Will definitely be back sooner rather than later."

  • "Food was good, not great. My chicken was slightly overdone. The waiter offered us cracked black pepper but no salt. My date and I both wanted a little salt and had to go track someone down to get some. Nice decor. Not really ideal for a "date" where you want to do a lot of communicating - we had to lean towards each other to be heard at times - noise level was pretty high. Overall a nice restaurant I will return to - just not on a first date..."

  • "I love Basta in Pawtuxet Village. It is a quaint Italian restaurant with great service and gourmet dishes as well as great salads and pizza. And gluten free entrees and pizza are easy to order. The wait staff, bartenders and maitre de are experienced and the service is wonderful. Highly recommend!"

  • "If you are looking for a terrific dinning experience - you must go to BASTA! We (3 couples) had a fantastic evening on Saturday 1/11/14 - we first attended Wicked at the PPAC ( great show). We then made the short drive to BASTA in Cranston. Parking was easy - BASTA was tremendous from start to finish! The service was attentive and terrific, the food was spectacular! The deserts were Devine! If you like Italian food - BASTA is a must! Cheers!"

  • "Went here for a business meeting with a client. They really, really liked the place, and that made the meeting much less stressful--at least for me. It has just the right amount of casualness, but is still a nice place. Our waiter, George, was accommodating and breezy. The food was good and plentiful. I'm looking forward to going back."
